Abstract

Fragrance control is provided by articles of manufacture including various solid state fragrancing objects, methods of using such objects, and systems that employ one or more such objects. The fragrancing object can be easy to manufacture, long lasting, provide fragrance that is consistently released over time, provide an indication to the user that the object needs to be replaced, and can hold a desired ratio of fragrance. The fragrancing object can include a first material comprising a polyether block amide, a second material comprising a polyolefin elastomer (POE), and a fragrance component such as a fragrance oil.

Claims (45)

1. A solid state fragrancing object comprising a solid material, the solid material including a fragrancing component, the solid material having a substantially constant cross-sectional area in a longitudinal dimension and a surface area to volume ratio from about 0.5:1 to about 50:1, the solid material configured to be coupled to an air vent.

2. The solid state fragrancing object of claim 1 , wherein the solid material is configured as a portion of the air vent.

3. The solid state fragrancing object of claim 1 , wherein the solid material is configured to be snapped or clipped onto the air vent.

4. The solid state fragrancing object of claim 1 , wherein the solid material is configured to be directly coupled to the air vent.

5. The solid state fragrancing object of claim 1 , wherein the solid material includes a recess.

6. The solid state fragrancing object of claim 5 , wherein the recess extends in the longitudinal dimension.

7. The solid state fragrancing object of claim 1 , further comprising a mount, the solid material configured to be coupled to the mount, the mount configured to be coupled to the air vent.

8. The solid state fragrancing object of claim 1 , wherein the solid material comprises a base and a blade extending in the longitudinal direction, the blade extending from the base.

9. The solid state fragrancing object of claim 1 , wherein the solid material includes a protuberance formed in the longitudinal dimension.

10. The solid state fragrancing object of claim 1 , wherein the solid material includes a plurality of protuberances.

11. The solid state fragrancing object of claim 1 , wherein the solid material includes an aperture.

12. The solid state fragrancing object of claim 1 , wherein the solid material includes a hollow interior portion.

13. The solid state fragrancing object of claim 1 , wherein the solid material is configured to appear to be a part of the air vent.

14. The solid state fragrancing object of claim 13 , wherein the solid material matches at least one of a shape and a color of the air vent.

15. The solid state fragrancing object of claim 1 , wherein the solid material includes one of a thermoplastic elastomer and a polyolefin elastomer.

16. The solid state fragrancing object of claim 15 , wherein the solid material includes the thermoplastic elastomer and the thermoplastic elastomer includes a polyether block amide.

17. The solid state fragrancing object of claim 16 , wherein the polyether block amide makes up at least 10% of the solid material.

18. The solid state fragrancing object of claim 15 , wherein the solid material includes the polyolefin elastomer.

19. The solid state fragrancing object of claim 18 , wherein the polyolefin elastomer makes up at least 40% of the solid material.

20. The solid state fragrancing object of claim 1 , wherein the fragrancing component includes a fragrance oil.

21. The solid state fragrancing object of claim 20 , wherein the fragrance oil includes a member selected from the group consisting of orange, Mentha arvensis , peppermint, cedarwood, lemon, Eucalyptus globulus, Litsea cubeba , clove (leaf), and spearmint.

22. The solid state fragrancing object of claim 1 , wherein the fragrancing component makes up at least 15% of the solid material.

The solid state fragrancing object of claim 1 , wherein the solid material includes a thermoplastic elastomer and a polyolefin elastomer, the thermoplastic elastomer includes a polyether block amide, the fragrancing component includes a fragrance oil, the polyether block amide makes up at least 10% of the solid material, the polyolefin elastomer makes up at least 40% of the solid material, and the fragrancing component makes up at least 15% of the solid material.

24. The solid state fragrancing object of claim 1 , wherein the solid state fragrancing object comprises separate pieces assembled together.

25. The solid state fragrancing object of claim 1 , further comprising an adhesive on a portion of the solid material.

26. A method for fragrance control comprising:

coupling a solid state fragrancing object to an air vent;

wherein the solid state fragrancing object comprises a solid material, the solid material including a fragrancing component, the solid material having a substantially constant cross-sectional area in a longitudinal dimension and a surface area to volume ratio from about 0.5:1 to about 50:1.

27. The method of claim 26 , wherein coupling the solid state fragrancing object to the air vent includes coupling a plurality of solid state fragrancing objects to the air vent.

28. The method of claim 26 , wherein coupling the solid state fragrancing object to the air vent includes coupling a plurality of solid state fragrancing objects to a plurality of air vents, wherein each air vent is coupled to at least one solid state fragrancing object.

29. The method of claim 28 , wherein the plurality of solid state fragrancing objects include the same fragrancing component.

30. The method of claim 28 , wherein the plurality of solid state fragrancing objects include different fragrancing components.

31. A solid state fragrancing object comprising a solid material, the solid material including a fragrancing component, the solid material having a substantially constant cross-sectional area in a longitudinal dimension and a surface area to volume ratio from about 0.5:1 to about 50:1, the solid material configured as an air vent.

32. A method of forming a solid state fragrancing object comprising:

providing a solid state fragrancing object comprising a solid material, the solid material including a fragrancing component, the solid material having a substantially constant cross-sectional area in a longitudinal dimension and a surface area to volume ratio from about 0.5:1 to about 50:1; and

modifying the solid state fragrancing object by one of die cutting, shaping, trimming, bending, braiding, and weaving.

33. The method of claim 32 , wherein the solid material includes one of a thermoplastic elastomer and a polyolefin elastomer.

34. The method of claim 32 , further comprising molding the solid material including the fragrancing component to form the solid state fragrancing object in the providing step.

35. The method of claim 34 , wherein the molding includes one of injection molding, blow molding, rotational molding, and extrusion molding.

36. The method of claim 32 , further comprising extruding the solid material including the fragrancing component to form the solid state fragrancing object in the providing step.

37. The method of claim 36 , wherein the extruding includes:

tumbling a thermoplastic elastomer with a fragrancing component, the thermoplastic elastomer including a polyether block amide;

adding a polyolefin elastomer to the tumbled thermoplastic elastomer and fragrancing component; and

extruding the fragrancing component, the thermoplastic elastomer, and the polyolefin elastomer.

38. The method of claim 36 , wherein extruding the solid material including the fragrancing component to form the solid state fragrancing object includes performing the extruding between about 160 to about 210 degrees Centrigrade.
