Abstract

Disclosed herein are a machine architecture implementing a staging automation process, including features such as multiple IR transmitters and composite video inputs for automated high volume quality testing. Diagnostic display outputs from a unit under test are input to OCR and video quality algorithms to validate that the units under test are ready for a functional test process at the next stage.

Claims (46)

1. An analytic system for testing a plurality of units under test (UUTs), the analytic system comprising:

a rack system comprising a plurality of video hardware units, each video hardware unit configured to couple to a corresponding different subset of the UUTs, and to receive video inputs from, and to output infra-red commands to, the corresponding different subset of the UUTs; and

a master control coupled to the plurality of video hardware units;

wherein each video hardware unit is further configured to

execute a pre-provisioning phase, a provisioning phase including an initialization and code download stage, and a post-provisioning phase on subsets of the UUTs,

reconfigure the infra-red commands to the UUTs and the video inputs from the UUTs in response to results of the pre-provisioning phase and the provisioning phase,

receive via the rack system a UUT test from the master control, and

return via the rack system a UUT test result to the master control;

wherein the master control is configured to

coordinate parallel testing of the pre-provisioning phase, the provisioning phase, and the post-provisioning phase of the UUTs by the video hardware units,

operate a master RF switch to allocate an RF feed from a cable system headend to the UUTs,

interoperate with the cable system headend,

communicate the UUT test, and

receive the UUT test result via a web server system.

2. The analytic system of claim 1 , wherein:

the video hardware units are configured to operate the provisioning phase on a first subset of the UUTs in parallel with operating the post-provisioning phase on a second subset of the UUTs.

3. The analytic system of claim 1 , wherein:

the video hardware units each comprise a plurality of video processors each configured to receive at least ten individual composite video inputs.

4. The analytic system of claim 3 , further comprising:

an infra-red driver board coupled to the video hardware units, the infra-red driver board comprising at least ten individual infra-red outputs.

5. The analytic system of claim 4 , wherein the infra-red driver board is operable to control a tower lamp for the rack system.

6. The analytic system of claim 1 , wherein:

the master control is further configured to implement the UUT test as an XML file.

7. The analytic system of claim 1 , wherein:

each video hardware unit is further configured to return the UUT test result as an XML file.

8. The analytic system of claim 1 , wherein:

the rack system is configured to distribute radio frequency video from the cable system headend to each of the UUTs via a master RF splitter coupled to a plurality of domain-level RF splitters on different levels of the rack system.

9. A method of testing a plurality of units under test (UUTs), the method comprising:

receiving video inputs at a plurality of video hardware units in a rack system from a corresponding different subset of UUTs, each video hardware unit configured to output infra-red commands to the corresponding different subset of the UUTs;

executing in parallel, at each video hardware unit, a pre-provisioning phase, a provisioning phase including an initialization and code download stage, and a post-provisioning phase on subsets of the UUTs;

coordinating, with a master control coupled to each video hardware unit, execution of each pre-provisioning phase, each provisioning phase, and each post-provisioning phase;

reconfiguring the infra-red commands to the UUTs and the video inputs from the UUTs in response to results of the pre-provisioning phase and the provisioning phase;

receiving, at each video hardware unit, a UUT test from the master control via a web server system; and

returning, by the video hardware unit, a UUT test result to the master control via the web server system.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein each video hardware unit operates the provisioning phase on a first subset of the UUTs in parallel with operating the post-provisioning phase on a second subset of the UUTs.

11. The method of claim 9 , wherein

each video hardware unit comprises a plurality of video processors each receiving at least ten individual composite video inputs.

12. The method of claim 11 , wherein

each video hardware unit operates an infra-red driver board comprising at least ten individual infra-red outputs.

13. The method of claim 11 , wherein the infra-red driver board controls a tower lamp for the rack system.

14. The method of claim 9 , wherein

the master control communicates the UUT test as an XML file.

15. The method of claim 9 , wherein

each video hardware unit returns the UUT test result as an XML file.

16. The method of claim 9 , further comprising:

distributing radio frequency video from the cable system headend to each of the UUTs via a master RF splitter coupled to a plurality of domain-level RF splitters on different levels of the rack system.
