Methods and apparatus for manufacturing fiber-based meat containers
Methods and apparatus for vacuum forming a meat tray using a slurry. The slurry comprises: a moisture barrier comprising AKD in the range of about 4% by weight; a fiber base comprising bagasse; and an oil barrier comprising a water-based emulsion in the range of about 1.5% by weight.
1. A fiber-based slurry for use in vacuum forming a meat tray, the slurry comprising:
a fiber base of about 70% softwood and about 30% bagasse;
a moisture barrier; and
an oil barrier;
wherein the moisture barrier is in a range of about 1%-4% by weight and the oil barrier is in a range of about 1%-4% by weight.
2. The slurry of claim 1 , further comprising a strength additive in a range of 1.5%-4% by weight.
3. The slurry of claim 2 , wherein:
the moisture barrier comprises alkyl ketene dimer (AKD) in an amount of about 4% by weight; and
the oil barrier comprises a water based emulsion in an amount of about 1.5% by weight.
4. A meat tray made from the slurry of claim 3 .
5. A fiber-based slurry for use in vacuum forming a meat tray, the slurry comprising:
a fiber base of about 70% bamboo and about 30% bagasse;
a moisture barrier; and
an oil barrier;
wherein the moisture barrier is in a range of about 1%-4% by weight and the oil barrier is in a range of about 1%-4% by weight.
6. The slurry of claim 5 , wherein the moisture barrier comprises alkyl ketene dimer (AKD).
7. The slurry of claim 5 , wherein the oil barrier comprises a water based emulsion.
8. A meat tray made from the slurry of claim 5 .
9. A slurry for use in vacuum forming a meat tray, comprising:
a moisture barrier comprising alkyl ketene dimer (AKD) in an amount of about 4% by weight;
