A multimedia program recording schedule manager for DVR systems is described. In a first embodiment, for example, a method implemented by one or more server computing devices, the method comprising: receiving input selecting a particular DVR system; receiving input selecting a particular multimedia program for the particular DVR system to record on a repeat basis; adding the particular multimedia program to a server-side instance of a repeat recording schedule for the particular DVR system; and synchronizing the server-side instance of the repeat recording schedule with another instance of a repeat recording schedule for the particular DVR system resulting in the addition of the particular multimedia program to the other instance of the repeat recording schedule. In one embodiment, the other instance of the repeat recording schedule for the particular DVR system is a data component of the particular DVR system.

Claims (45)

1. A method comprising:

causing a display of a first program series recording schedule for a first digital video recorder (DVR) system, the first program series recording schedule including one or more multimedia program series that is scheduled for the first DVR to record on an ongoing basis;

causing a display of a second program series recording schedule for a second DVR system concurrently with the display of the first program series recording schedule for the first DVR system;

receiving input indicating selection of a multimedia program series recording item in the first program series recording schedule for the first DVR system;

adding the multimedia program series recording item to the second program series recording schedule for the second DVR system;

updating the display of the second program series recording schedule for the second DVR system to include a display of the multimedia program series recording item in the second recording schedule.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

sending data representing the multimedia program series recording item to the second DVR system;

receiving a confirmation from the second DVR system that the multimedia program series recording item has been added to a client-side instance of the second program series recording schedule, the client-side instance of the second program series recording schedule being stored on the second DVR system.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the display of the second program series recording schedule for the second DVR system is updated to include the display of the multimedia program series recording item in the second recording schedule in response to receiving the confirmation from the second DVR system that the multimedia program series recording item has been added to the client-side instance of the second program series recording schedule.

4. The method of claim 1 , further comprising:

synchronizing a server-side instance of the second program series recording schedule with a client-side instance of the second program series recording schedule resulting in adding the multimedia program series recording item in the client-side instance of the second program series recording schedule;

wherein the client-side instance of the second program series recording schedule is a data component of the second DVR system.

5. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: in response to receiving search criteria, searching a program guide to identify one or more multimedia programs that satisfy the search criteria.

6. The method of claim 1 , further comprising: establishing a network connection with the second DVR system and sending data representing the multimedia program series recording item to the second DVR system over the network connection.

7. A non-transitory computer-readable medium storing instructions which, when executed by one or more computing devices, causes the one or more computing devices to perform:

causing a display of a first program series recording schedule for a first digital video recorder (DVR) system, the first program series recording schedule including one or more multimedia program series that is scheduled for the first DVR to record on an ongoing basis;

causing a display of a second program series recording schedule for a second DVR system concurrently with the display of the first program series recording schedule for the first DVR system;

receiving input indicating selection of a multimedia program series recording item in the first program series recording schedule for the first DVR system;

adding the multimedia program series recording item to the second program series recording schedule for the second DVR system;

updating the display of the second program series recording schedule for the second DVR system to include a display of the multimedia program series recording item in the second recording schedule.

8. The medium of claim 7 , wherein the instructions comprise further instructions which, when executed by one or more computing devices, causes the one or more computing devices to perform:

sending data representing the multimedia program series recording item to the second DVR system;

receiving a confirmation from the second DVR system that the multimedia program series recording item has been added to a client-side instance of the second program series recording schedule, the client-side instance of the second program series recording schedule being stored on the second DVR system.

9. The medium of claim 8 , wherein the display of the second program series recording schedule for the second DVR system is updated to include the display of the multimedia program series recording item in the second recording schedule in response to receiving the confirmation from the second DVR system that the multimedia program series recording item has been added to the client-side instance of the second program series recording schedule.

10. The medium of claim 7 , wherein the instructions comprise further instructions which, when executed by one or more computing devices, causes the one or more computing devices to perform:

synchronizing a server-side instance of the second program series recording schedule with a client-side instance of the second program series recording schedule resulting in adding the multimedia program series recording item in the client-side instance of the second program series recording schedule;

wherein the client-side instance of the second program series recording schedule is a data component of the second DVR system.

11. The medium of claim 7 , wherein the instructions comprise further instructions which, when executed by one or more computing devices, causes the one or more computing devices to perform: in response to receiving search criteria, searching a program guide to identify one or more multimedia programs that satisfy the search criteria.

12. The medium of claim 7 , wherein the instructions comprise further instructions which, when executed by one or more computing devices, causes the one or more computing devices to perform: establishing a network connection with the second DVR system and sending data representing the multimedia program series recording item to the second DVR system over the network connection.

13. An apparatus comprising:

a device, at least in part implemented in hardware, that causes a display of a first program series recording schedule for a first digital video recorder (DVR) system, the first program series recording schedule including one or more multimedia program series that is scheduled for the first DVR to record on an ongoing basis;

a device, at least in part implemented in hardware, that causes a display of a second program series recording schedule for a second DVR system concurrently with the display of the first program series recording schedule for the first DVR system;

a device, at least in part implemented in hardware, that receives input indicating selection of a multimedia program series recording item in the first program series recording schedule for the first DVR system;

a device, at least in part implemented in hardware, that adds the multimedia program series recording item to the second program series recording schedule for the second DVR system;

a device, at least in part implemented in hardware, that updates the display of the second program series recording schedule for the second DVR system to include a display of the multimedia program series recording item in the second recording schedule.

14. The apparatus of claim 13 , further comprising:

a device, at least in part implemented in hardware, that sends data representing the multimedia program series recording item to the second DVR system;

a device, at least in part implemented in hardware, that receives a confirmation from the second DVR system that the multimedia program series recording item has been added to a client-side instance of the second program series recording schedule, the client-side instance of the second program series recording schedule being stored on the second DVR system.

15. The apparatus of claim 14 , wherein the display of the second program series recording schedule for the second DVR system is updated to include the display of the multimedia program series recording item in the second recording schedule in response to receiving the confirmation from the second DVR system that the multimedia program series recording item has been added to the client-side instance of the second program series recording schedule.

16. The apparatus of claim 13 , further comprising:
