Urine specimen capture device with a capture flange
The urine specimen capture device includes a capture bowl for collecting a urine specimen, a mounting frame for supporting the capture bowl within a toilet bowl, and an analytic device connected to the capture bowl to analyze a property of the urine specimen in the capture bowl. The capture bowl includes a capture flange for capturing flush water discharged from a toilet bowl.
1. A urine specimen capture device, comprising:
a capture bowl to capture a urine specimen;
a flush water capture flange extending from the capture bowl to capture flush water emitted from a rim of a toilet bowl during a flush cycle and divert the flush water to the capture bowl to thereby rinse the capture bowl of the urine specimen;
a mounting frame connected to the capture bowl to support the capture bowl within the toilet bowl;
an analytic device connected to the capture bowl to analyze a property of the urine specimen in the capture bowl; and
an optical fiber exposed directly to the urine specimen,
wherein the capture flange extends a distance sufficient that an outer edge of the capture flange, when inserted within a toilet bowl, is capable of abutting an inside surface of the toilet bowl, thereby capturing toilet flush water discharged from rim holes and flowing down an inside surface of the toilet bowl.
2. The capture device according to claim 1 , further comprising an opening at a bottom of the capture bowl to drain the urine specimen.
3. The capture device according to claim 2 , wherein the opening comprises a flush valve.
4. The capture device according to claim 1 , wherein the capture flange is flexible.
5. The capture device according to claim 3 , wherein the flush valve is configured to selectively close and open to maintain the urine specimen at a predetermined volume in the capture bowl.
6. The capture device according to claim 1 , wherein the mounting frame further includes a suction device.
7. The capture device according to claim 3 , wherein the flush valve is operably connected to a user sensor configured to close the flush valve when the presence of a user on the toilet seat is detected and open the flush valve when the presence of a user on the toilet seat is not detected.
8. The capture device according to claim 7 , wherein the user sensor is a toilet seat load sensor.
9. The capture device according to claim 7 , wherein the user sensor is a user proximity sensor.
10. The capture device according to claim 1 , wherein the analytic device comprises a spectrometer.
11. The capture device according to claim 1 , wherein the analytic device comprises a fluid level sensor.
12. The capture device according to claim 1 , wherein the analytic device comprises a spectrometer and a fluid level sensor and the spectrometer is actuated upon the fluid level reaching a designated level.
13. The capture device according to claim 1 , wherein the analytic device comprises a transmitter for wireless communication.
14. The capture device according to claim 1 , wherein the analytic device further comprises a generator that powers the analytic device, wherein the generator generates power from flushing water.
15. The capture device according to claim 6 , wherein the suction device comprises two or more suction cups.
16. The capture device according to claim 1 , wherein the analytic device identifies chemicals present in the urine specimen.
17. The capture device according to claim 1 , wherein the analytic device quantifies chemicals present in the urine specimen.
18. The capture device according to claim 1 , wherein the analytic device identifies and quantifies chemicals present in the urine specimen.
19. The capture device according to claim 1 , further comprising a light transparent window in a wall of the capture bowl.
