Abstract

The present disclosure is directed towards benchmarking online activity via encoded links generated by an online activity benchmarking system. The method may include identifying by a server of an online activity benchmarking system, for an information resource, a plurality of encoded links encoded by the server of the online activity benchmarking system and linked to the information resource, receiving by the server, via the identified plurality of encoded links, a plurality of requests to access the information resource, identifying by the server, for each request of the plurality of requests to access the information resource, one or more attributes corresponding to the request, categorizing by the server, the plurality of requests to access the information resource based on the one or more identified attributes, and providing by the server, for presentation, an output indicating statistics corresponding to the categorized plurality of requests based on the one or more identified attributes.

Claims (57)

1. A system for benchmarking online activity via encoded links generated by a linking system, comprising:

at least one server of an online activity benchmarking system, configured to:

generate, for an information resource, a first set of encoded links linked to the information resource for presentation on a plurality of first information resources corresponding to a first vertical;

generate, for the information resource, a second set of encoded links linked to the information resource for presentation on a plurality of second information resources corresponding to a second vertical different from the first vertical;

receive, via the first set of encoded links, a first set of requests to access the information resource;

receive, via the second set of encoded links, a second set of requests to access the information resource;

identify, for each request of the first set of requests and the second set of requests to access the information resource, one or more attributes corresponding to the request;

assign the first set of requests to the first vertical and the second set of requests to the second vertical;

categorize the first set of requests and the second set of requests to access the information resource based on the one or more identified attributes;

identify, for each request of the first set of requests assigned to the first vertical, a first cookie of the online activity benchmarking system assigned to a first client device from which the request is received;

update a data structure of the first cookie to associate the first cookie to the first vertical;

identify, for each request of the second set of requests assigned to the second vertical, a second cookie of the online activity benchmarking system assigned to a second client device from which the request is received;

update a data structure of the second cookie to associate the second cookie to the second vertical; and

provide, for presentation, an output indicating statistics corresponding to the categorized first set of requests and the second set of requests based on the one or more identified attributes, the first vertical, and the second vertical.

The system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more attributes corresponding to each request that is performed by a client device, include a type of the client device, a geographic location of the client device, a time of day at which the request is performed, or a source Uniform Resource Locator (URL) on which the request is performed.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one server is further configured to:

identify, from a plurality of requests including the first set of requests and the second set of requests, a plurality of cookies of the online activity benchmarking system assigned to unique client devices; and

identify, from a cookie corresponding to each request, one or more attributes corresponding to the request.

The system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one server is further configured to provide a first number of requests via a first one of a plurality of encoded links across the at least one attribute of the one or more identified attributes, and a second number of requests via a second one of the plurality of encoded link across the at least one attribute of the one or more identified attributes, the plurality of encoded links including the first set of encoded links and the second set of encoded links.

5. The system of claim 4 , wherein the at least one server is further configured to rank each of the first and second encoded links based on their respective number of requests across the at least one attribute of the one or more identified attributes.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one server is further configured to:

determine a first number of requests to access the information resource via encoded links of the online activity benchmarking system that are displayed on webpages corresponding to the first vertical;

determine a second number of requests to access the information resource via encoded links of the linking system that are displayed on webpages corresponding to the second vertical; and

wherein providing, for presentation, an output indicating statistics corresponding to the first set of requests and the second set of requests based on the one or more identified attributes includes providing, for presentation, a visual content item based on at least one of the first number of requests or the second number of requests.

7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one server is further configured to:

determine a first number of requests to access the information resource via encoded links of the online activity benchmarking system that are received from a first referral source;

determine a second number of requests to access the information resource via encoded links of the online activity benchmarking system that are received from a second referral source; and

wherein providing, for presentation, an output indicating statistics corresponding to the first set of requests and the second set of requests based on the one or more identified attributes includes providing, for presentation a visual content item based on at least one of the first number of requests or the second number of requests.

8. A method for benchmarking online activity via encoded links generated by a linking system, comprising:

generating, by at least one server of an online activity benchmarking system, for an information resource, a first set of encoded links linked to the information resource for presentation on a plurality of first information resources corresponding to a first vertical;

generating, by at least one server, for the information resource, a second set of encoded links linked to the information resource for presentation on a plurality of second information resources corresponding to a second vertical different from the first vertical;

receiving, by the at least one server, via the first set plurality of encoded links, a first set of requests to access the information resource;

receiving, by at least one server, via the second set of encoded links, a second set of requests to access the information resource;

identifying, by the at least one server, for each request of the first set of requests and the second set of requests to access the information resource, one or more attributes corresponding to the request;

assigning, by the at least one server, the first set of requests to the first vertical and the second set of requests to the second vertical;

categorizing, by the at least one server, the first set of requests and the second set of requests to access the information resource based on the one or more identified attributes;

identifying, by the at least one server, for each request of the first set of requests assigned to the first vertical, a first cookie of the online activity benchmarking system assigned to a first client device from which the request is received;

updating, by the at least one server, a data structure of the first cookie to associate the first cookie to the first vertical;

identifying, by the at least one server, for each request of the second set of requests assigned to the second vertical, a second cookie of the online activity benchmarking system assigned to a second client device from which the request is received;

updating, by the at least one server, a data structure of the second cookie to associate the second cookie to the second vertical; and

providing, by the at least one server, for presentation, an output indicating statistics corresponding to the first set of requests and the second set of requests based on the one or more identified attributes, the first vertical, and the second vertical.

The method of claim 8 , wherein the one or more attributes corresponding to each request that is performed by a client device, include a type of the client device, a geographic location of the client device, a time of day at which the request is performed, or a source Uniform Resource Locator (URL) on which the request is performed.

10. The method of claim 8 , further comprising:

identifying, by the at least one server, from a plurality of requests including the first set of requests and the second set of requests, a plurality of cookies of the online activity benchmarking system assigned to unique client devices; and

identifying, by the at least one server, from a cookie corresponding to each request, one or more attributes corresponding to the request.

11. The method of claim 8 , further comprising:

providing, by the at least one server, a first number of requests via a first one of a plurality of encoded links across the at least one attribute of the one or more identified attributes, and a second number of requests via a second one of the plurality of encoded link across the at least one attribute of the one or more identified attributes, the plurality of encoded links including the first set of encoded links and the second set of encoded links.

12. The method of claim 11 , further comprising:

ranking, by the at least one server, each of the first and second encoded links based on their respective number of requests across the at least one attribute of the one or more identified attributes.

13. The method of claim 8 , further comprising:

determining, by the at least one server, a first number of requests to access the information resource via encoded links of the online activity benchmarking system that are displayed on webpages corresponding to the first vertical; and

determining, by the at least one server, a second number of requests to access the information resource via encoded links of the online activity benchmarking system that are displayed on webpages corresponding to the second vertical,

wherein providing, for presentation, an output indicating statistics corresponding to the first set of requests and the second set of requests based on the one or more identified attributes includes providing, for presentation, a visual content item based on at least one of the first number of requests or the second number of requests.

14. The method of claim 8 , further comprising:

determining, by the at least one server, a first number of requests to access the information resource via encoded links of the online activity benchmarking system that are received from a first referral source; and

determining, by the at least one server, a second number of requests to access the information resource via encoded links of the online activity benchmarking system that are received from a second referral source,

wherein providing, for presentation, an output indicating statistics corresponding to the first set of requests and the second set of requests based on the one or more identified attributes includes providing, for presentation a visual content item based on at least one of the first number of requests or the second number of requests.
