scanning the scannable target with a scanner; and

inserting the substance transfer component into the skin of the subject after the device receives a signal from scanner.

31 . The method of claim 30 , wherein the scannable target comprises an RFID tag.

32 . The method of claim 30 , wherein the scannable target comprises a printed pattern.

33 . The method of claim 30 , wherein the scannable target comprises a bar code.

34 . The method of claim 30 , wherein the substance transfer component comprises one or more microneedles.

35 . The method of claim 30 , wherein the signal comprises radio waves.

36 . The method of claim 30 , wherein scanning the scannable target with a scanner comprises scanning the scannable target for radio waves.

37 . The method of claim 30 , wherein the signal indicates that the subject is the correct subject.

38 . The method of claim 30 , wherein the device automatically inserts the substance transfer component into the skin of the subject after the device receives a signal from scanner.

39 . The method of claim 30 , comprising manually inserting the substance transfer component into the skin of the subject after the device receives a signal from scanner.

40 . A method, comprising:

providing a device for application to the skin of a subject, the device comprising a first scannable target and a substance transfer component;

providing a subject with a second scannable target;

scanning the first and second scannable targets with a scanner; and

inserting the substance transfer component into the skin of the subject after the device receives a signal from scanner.

41 . The method of claim 40 , wherein the first scannable target comprises an RFID tag.

42 . The method of claim 40 , wherein the first scannable target comprises a printed pattern.

43 . The method of claim 40 , wherein the substance transfer component comprises one or more microneedles.

44 . The method of claim 40 , wherein the signal comprises radio waves.

45 . The method of claim 40 , wherein the second scannable target comprises a printed pattern.

46 . The method of claim 40 , wherein the second scannable target comprises a bar code.

47 . The method of claim 40 , wherein the signal indicates that the subject is the correct subject.

48 . The method of claim 40 , wherein the device automatically inserts the substance transfer component into the skin of the subject after the device receives a signal from scanner.

49 . The method of claim 40 , comprising manually inserting the substance transfer component into the skin of the subject after the device receives a signal from scanner.
