Abstract

There is described a gaming system including an award controller for allocating an award at a plurality of gaming machines. The award controller is arranged to allocate, in response to a win at a first gaming machine of the plurality of gaming machines, an award to a player of at least one further gaming machine of the plurality of gaming machines based on a location of the at least one further gaming machine.

Claims (44)

1. A gaming machine comprising:

a display configured to display a wagering game;

a player interface;

a credit input mechanism configured to establish a credit balance that is increasable and decreasable based on wagering activity;

a tangible, non-transitory, computer-readable memory; and

a game controller communicatively coupled to the memory and configured to:

initiate, in response to receiving a credit wager, a game session;

generate a game outcome, the game outcome associated with a progressive jackpot award;

allocate a first portion of the progressive jackpot award to the gaming machine; and

allocate a second portion of the progressive jackpot award to at least one of a plurality of secondary gaming machines spaced circularly in a pattern about the gaming machine, such that, when viewed from above, the gaming machine appears to distribute the second portion radially outward to the plurality of secondary gaming machines.

2. The gaming machine of claim 1 , wherein the game controller is further configured to add a portion of a plurality of wagers received from the plurality of secondary gaming machines to the progressive jackpot award.

3. The gaming machine of claim 1 , wherein the game controller is further configured to allocate the second portion of the progressive jackpot award to at least one of the plurality of secondary gaming machines, such that, when viewed from above, the gaming machine appears to distribute the second portion in a zig-zag pattern to the plurality of secondary gaming machines.

4. The gaming machine of claim 1 , wherein the game controller is further configured to allocate the second portion of the progressive jackpot award to at least one of the plurality of secondary gaming machines, such that, when viewed from above, the gaming machine appears to distribute the second portion in a ripple-like pattern to the plurality of secondary gaming machines, wherein in the ripple-like pattern the jackpot award appears to bounce from one secondary gaming machine to a subsequent secondary gaming machine.

5. The gaming machine of claim 1 , wherein the game controller is further configured to allocate the second portion of the progressive jackpot award to at least one of the plurality of secondary gaming machines, such that, when viewed from above, the gaming machine appears to distribute the second portion sequentially to the plurality of secondary gaming machines from nearest the gaming machine to furthest from the gaming machine.

6. The gaming machine of claim 1 , wherein the game controller is further configured to allocate the second portion of the progressive jackpot award to at least one of the plurality of secondary gaming machines, such that, when viewed from above, the gaming machine appears to distribute the second portion in a line radiating outwardly from the gaming machine to the plurality of secondary gaming machines.

7. The gaming machine of claim 1 , wherein the game controller is further configured to receive location information associated with at least one of the plurality of secondary gaming machines.

8. A gaming machine comprising:

a display configured to display a wagering game;

a player interface;

a credit input mechanism configured to establish a credit balance that is increasable and decreasable based on wagering activity;

a tangible, non-transitory, computer-readable memory; and

a game controller communicatively coupled to the memory and configured to:

initiate, in response to receiving a credit wager, a game session;

request a game outcome;

receive, from a jackpot server communicatively coupled to the game controller, the game outcome;

transmit to the jackpot server, win information indicating that the game outcome is associated with a progressive jackpot award; and

receive from the jackpot server, a first portion of the progressive jackpot award, wherein the jackpot server allocates a second portion of the progressive jackpot award to a plurality of secondary gaming machines oriented in an award pattern spaced generally circularly about the gaming machine, such that, when viewed from above, the gaming machine appears to distribute the second portion radially outward to the plurality of secondary gaming machines.

9. The gaming machine of claim 8 , wherein the jackpot server adds a portion of a plurality of wagers received from the plurality of secondary gaming machines to the progressive jackpot award.

10. The gaming machine of claim 8 , wherein the jackpot server allocates the second portion of the progressive jackpot award to at least one of the plurality of secondary gaming machines, such that, when viewed from above, the gaming machine appears to distribute the second portion in a zig-zag pattern to the plurality of secondary gaming machines.

11. The gaming machine of claim 8 , wherein the jackpot server allocates the second portion of the progressive jackpot award to at least one of the plurality of secondary gaming machines, such that, when viewed from above, the gaming machine appears to distribute the second portion in a ripple-like pattern to the plurality of secondary gaming machines, wherein in the ripple-like pattern the jackpot award appears to bounce from one secondary gaming machine to a subsequent secondary gaming machine.

12. The gaming machine of claim 8 , wherein the jackpot server allocates the second portion of the progressive jackpot award to at least one of the plurality of secondary gaming machines, such that, when viewed from above, the gaming machine appears to distribute the second portion sequentially to the plurality of secondary gaming machines from nearest the gaming machine to furthest from the gaming machine.

13. The gaming machine of claim 8 , wherein the jackpot server allocates the second portion of the progressive jackpot award to at least one of the plurality of secondary gaming machines, such that, when viewed from above, the gaming machine appears to distribute the second portion in a line radiating outwardly from the gaming machine to the plurality of secondary gaming machines.

14. The gaming machine of claim 8 , wherein the jackpot server receives location information associated with at least one of the plurality of secondary gaming machines.

15. An electronic method of gaming implemented using a gaming machine, the gaming machine including a display configured to display a wagering game, a player input interface, a credit input mechanism configured to establish a credit balance that is increasable and decreasable based on wagering activity, and a game controller, the method comprising:

initiating, by the game controller and in response to receiving a credit wager at the credit input mechanism, a game session;

requesting, by the game controller, a game outcome;

receiving by the game controller and from a jackpot server communicatively coupled to the game controller, the game outcome;

transmitting, by the game controller and to the jackpot server, win information indicating that the game outcome is associated with a progressive jackpot award; and

receiving, by the game controller and from the jackpot server, a first portion of the progressive jackpot award, wherein the jackpot server allocates a second portion of the progressive jackpot award to a plurality of secondary gaming machines oriented in an award pattern spaced generally circularly about the gaming machine, such that, when viewed from above, the gaming machine appears to distribute the second portion radially outward to the plurality of secondary gaming machines.

16. The method of claim 15 , wherein the jackpot server adds a portion of a plurality of wagers received from the plurality of secondary gaming machines to the progressive jackpot award.

17. The gaming machine of claim 15 , wherein the jackpot server allocates the second portion of the progressive jackpot award to at least one of the plurality of secondary gaming machines, such that, when viewed from above, the gaming machine appears to distribute the second portion in a zig-zag pattern to the plurality of secondary gaming machines.

18. The gaming machine of claim 15 , wherein the jackpot server allocates the second portion of the progressive jackpot award to at least one of the plurality of secondary gaming machines, such that, when viewed from above, the gaming machine appears to distribute the second portion in a ripple-like pattern to the plurality of secondary gaming machines, wherein in the ripple-like the jackpot award appears to bounce from one secondary gaming machine to a subsequent secondary gaming machine.

19. The gaming machine of claim 15 , wherein the jackpot server allocates the second portion of the progressive jackpot award to at least one of the plurality of secondary gaming machines, such that, when viewed from above, the gaming machine appears to distribute the second portion sequentially to the plurality of secondary gaming machines from nearest the gaming machine to furthest from the gaming machine.

20. The gaming machine of claim 15 , wherein the jackpot server allocates the second portion of the progressive jackpot award to at least one of the plurality of secondary gaming machines, such that, when viewed from above, the gaming machine appears to distribute the second portion in a line radiating outwardly from the gaming machine to the plurality of secondary gaming machines.
