Abstract

An audio-video communication system comprises a wireless exterior module located proximate an entrance, a computerized controller running a software application, and a remote peripheral device. The wireless exterior module includes a proximity sensor for detecting a person at the entrance, a video camera for recording an image of the person at the entrance, a microphone for recording the person at the entrance, a speaker for playing audio to the person at the entrance, a transmitter for communicating sounds and images of the person at the entrance, and a receiver for receiving communications at the wireless exterior module. The computerized controller is disposed in wireless electronic communication with the wireless exterior module via the transmitter and the receiver of the wireless exterior module. The remote peripheral device is configured to electronically communicate with the computerized controller for viewing an image from the video camera communicated from the wireless exterior module.

wherein a message address is stored in the redundant system,

wherein the exterior device is configured to use the Internet to transmit the streaming video data, and

wherein the software application is capable of storing the message on the at least one peripheral device.

2. The detection and viewing system of claim 1 , wherein the hierarchy of storage is wirelessly accessible and the event is associated with irregular activity at the entrance.

3. The detection and viewing system of claim 1 , wherein the exterior device is configured to receive instructions from the software application and communicate digital streaming video and digital audio to a wireless router, and

wherein the wireless router is configured to provide the digital streaming video and the audio to the software application.

4. The detection and viewing system of claim 1 , wherein the software application is configured to display visitor history, is operable to remotely receive instructions from the software application, and is configured to remotely send instructions to the exterior device.

5. The detection and viewing system of claim 4 , wherein the software application is further configured to display one or more images associated with the visitor history.

6. The detection and viewing system of claim 4 , wherein the software application is further configured to display a time, date or any combination thereof associated with the visitor history.

7. The detection and viewing system of claim 1 , the system further comprising:

an interior transceiver including a touchscreen, wherein the interior transceiver is configured to display text on the touchscreen.

8. The detection and viewing system of claim 1 , further comprising:

an interior transceiver having a touchscreen which is configured to provide text to one or more components of the detection and viewing system.

9. The detection and viewing system of claim 1 , wherein the software application is configured to display a message to a user based on irregular visitor activity.

10. The detection and viewing system of claim 1 , wherein the exterior device is operable to issue a response based on irregular visitor activity, the response including one of calling the police, issuing a warning, generating a loud noise, or any combination thereof.

11. A detection and viewing system associated with an entrance comprising:

an exterior device associated with the entrance comprising:

a camera;

a microphone;

a speaker;

a transceiver;

a battery;

a proximity detector; and

a keypad having one or more buttons,

wherein the exterior device is operable to wirelessly transmit streaming video data upon detection of a person at the entrance by the proximity detector or if the one or more buttons are pressed,

wherein the exterior device is configured to transmit an alert to a cell phone upon detection of a person at the entrance by the proximity detector or if the one or more buttons of the exterior are pressed,

wherein the exterior device is operable to record digital audio, digital video, or any combination thereof in response to an event separate and apart from detection by the proximity detector or pressing of the one or more buttons on the exterior device,

wherein the exterior device is configured to remotely send instructions to a software application running on the cell phone,

wherein the exterior device is configured to receive instructions from the software application;

a computer configurable to define a hierarchy of storage for the digital video or the digital audio, wherein the database is configurable to store the digital video or the digital audio, provide access via a password, and store a network designation of the exterior device,

wherein the digital video or the digital audio is configured to be stored with a timestamp in the database;

a connection on the exterior device configured to receive power from a business or residence; and

wherein the system is configured to use a redundant system for storage of the digital video and the digital audio.

12. The system of claim 11 , further comprising:

a software application operable to run on at least one peripheral device comprising a cell phone, wherein the software application is configured to:

(i) display the streaming video data transmitted wirelessly by the exterior device,

(ii) receive audio data from the entrance transmitted wirelessly from the exterior device,

(iii) receive and display a notification to a user based on an event at the entrance,

(iv) receive audio from the user of the software application, and

(v) display a notification when the proximity detector detects the presence of a person at the entrance.

13. The system of claim 11 , further comprising:

a computer configured to execute software, wherein

(i) the streaming video data from the exterior device is received by the computer upon actuation of a sensor, and
