Connected fasteners, delivery device and method
A device for reducing the volume of a hollow body organ includes a tissue port and a plurality of fasteners. The fasteners may be coupled to a flexible filament, such as a suture, which is tensioned to constrict the hollow body organ to achieve volume reduction.
1. A device for forming a fold of tissue, comprising:
an elongated body;
a tissue chamber coupled to the body and having a duckbill valve at a distal end of the elongated body;
a tissue port configured to draw a fold of tissue into the tissue port using suction, the tissue port being positioned proximal to the duckbill valve and along the tissue chamber so that the fold of tissue extends into the tissue chamber;
a plurality of flexible struts supporting the tissue chamber;
a stylet tube extending inside of the elongated body and a stylet positioned inside of the stylet tube and configured for axial movement through the stylet tube;
a fastener mounted on the stylet, the fastener configured to be delivered by the stylet through the fold of tissue extending into the tissue port.
2. The device of claim 1 , wherein:
a plurality of tissue ports are positioned on the tissue chamber which are configured to draw a fold of tissue therein using suction.
3. The device of claim 2 , wherein:
a plurality of fasteners are configured to be delivered at each of the plurality of tissue ports.
4. The device of claim 3 , further comprising:
a flexible filament coupled to each of the plurality of fasteners, the flexible filament extending through one of the tissue ports and entering another of the tissue ports prior to deployment of the fasteners.
5. The device of claim 4 , further comprising:
a tensioning element coupled to the flexible filament, the tensioning element being configured to apply tension to the flexible filament.
6. The device of claim 1 , wherein the stylet has a sharp tip to penetrate tissue so that the fastener can be advanced over the stylet and deployed through the fold of tissue.
7. The device of claim 6 , wherein a pusher is positioned in the stylet tube to push on the stylet to advance the stylet and the fastener through the fold of tissue.
8. The device of claim 6 , wherein the fastener has a groove to permit release of the fastener from the stylet after the fastener has been deployed through the fold of tissue.
9. The device of claim 1 , wherein a control line is tensioned to expand the tissue chamber.
10. The device of claim 9 , wherein the plurality of flexible struts flex when the tissue chamber expands, thereby providing support to the tissue chamber in the expanded configuration.
