Abstract

In an exemplary embodiment of the present disclosure, a target marker for a firearm may comprise a module having a first portion, and a second portion electrically connected and coupled to the first portion. A light source may be disposed within and electrically connected to the second portion. An optical component may be coupled to the first portion at a first fixed distance from the light source. A circuit board may be electrically connected to the light source via at least one lead, wherein the lead may permit relative movement between the circuit board and the light source and may maintain a second fixed distance between the circuit board and the light source.

Claims (22)

1. An electronic device for use with a firearm, comprising:

a circuit board having a first end and a second end;

a laser module having an outer surface;

a lead joined between the first end of the circuit board and the laser module to position the outer surface of the laser module in a longitudinal relation to the second end; and,

a first portion of a firearm component having an exterior surface and an interior with a first opening shaped to receive the laser module outer surface and a second opening longitudinally separated from the first opening;

wherein the first opening and the interior of the first portion of the firearm component are configured to allow the second end of the circuit board to be inserted through the first opening into the interior with the interior being shaped to interact with the outer surface of the laser module to position the second end at a predetermined longitudinal relation with respect to the second opening.

The electronic device of claim 1 , wherein a compressible resilient member is joined to the second end and wherein the predetermined longitudinal relation of the position of the second end to the second opening determines a bias that the compressible resilient member can apply against an object held between the second end and the biasing member.

3. The electronic device of claim 2 , further comprising a cap joinable to the second end to hold a power supply between the compressible member and the cap, wherein the predetermined relation determines an extent of a biasing force applied to hold the compressible member against the cap.

4. The electronic device of, claim 3 , wherein the biasing force is within a range that holds the power supply against the cap during use of the firearm.

5. The electronic device of claim 3 , wherein the biasing force is sufficient to hold the power supply against the cap during use of the firearm.

6. An electronic device for use in a firearm; comprising:

a circuit board having a first end and a second end;

a module having an outer surface and an electrical component;

a lead joined between the first end of the circuit board and the electrical component to position the outer surface of the module in a longitudinal relation to the second end;

a first piece of a component for use in the firearm having an exterior surface and an interior with a first opening and a second opening longitudinally separated from the first opening with the first opening and the interior surface of the first piece adapted to allow the second end of the circuit board to be inserted through the first opening into the interior and with the interior being sized to receive the lead and the circuit board at any of a first range of axial orientations;

a second piece of the component for use in the firearm mechanically associated with the first piece of the component for use in the firearm to hold the exterior surface of the module longitudinally and allowing an axial orientation of the lead and the circuit board to change with changes in an axial orientation of the module; and

an alignment system operable to adjust the axial orientation of the electro-optical device after the first piece of the component for use in the firearm and the second piece of the component for use in the firearm are mechanically associated.

7. The electronic device of claim 6 , wherein the first piece and the second piece are generally tubular.

8. The electronic device of claim 6 , wherein the first piece has an insulating medium in the first piece of the component to secure the axial position of the circuit board and lead within the interior.

The electronic device of claim 6 , wherein the lead is sufficiently flexible to allow axial of the module within a second range of positions relative to the circuit board to allow adjustment over a total range of possible axial positions that is greater than either of the first range of positions or the second range of positions.

10. The electronic device of claim 6 , wherein the electronic component is a laser.

11. The electronic device of claim 6 , wherein the electronic component is a photodiode.
