Abstract

A canine trail boot has a molded sole having raised lugs that conform to the pad shape of a dog's foot. These lugs divide the sole into individual pad cups, each that receive a single pad from the dog foot. Features are provided that allow some independent movement between adjacent pad cups that better replicates a dog's pad movement. The molded sole may include a toe having unidirectional treads, and may also include a tail having a combination of treads that also receive and retain straps, and a raised protrusion that engages with an indentation on a dog's paw to retain a boot securely. The sole interior may be layered with one or more insoles that provide the selection of puncture resistance, heat isolation or reflection, and other custom interior features.

Claims (33)

1. A canine trail boot comprising:

a boot top;

a sole coupled to said boot top to define a paw receiving space there between, wherein said sole further comprises:

a toe rising from said paw receiving space and having a plurality of unidirectional treads; and

a tail rising from said paw receiving space;

said sole having five pad cups including four digital pad cups and a fifth metatarsal metacarpal pad cup;

each of said five pad cups having

a cup base exterior surface that is configured to be in ground contact and an interior surface that is configured to be in contact with and receive a single dog's pad,

a cup sidewall that rises vertically from said cup base and configured to rise to a location between and separating adjacent ones of a dog's pads substantially out of contact with a flat ground surface and spaced in a portion adjacent to said ground surface by a void from a vertically rising side wall of an adjacent one of said five pad cups, and

a flexible lug coupling said cup sidewall to said adjacent one of said five pad cups in a portion of the cup side wall distal to said cup base.

2. The canine trail boot of claim 1 , wherein said tail further comprises an omnidirectional tread.

3. The canine trail boot of claim 1 , wherein said tail further comprises a pair of generally linear treads spaced from each other and configured to engage with a ground surface, said pair of generally linear treads further configured to receive and retain a strap tensioned about a dog's leg.

4. The canine trail boot of claim 1 , wherein said toe unidirectional treads further comprise a right triangular prism geometry.

5. The canine trail boot of claim 1 , wherein said toe unidirectional treads further comprise segmented treads.

6. The animal boot of claim 1 , wherein said flexible lug further comprises a sheet geometry.

7. The canine trail boot of claim 1 , wherein said sole comprises a molded sole.

The canine trail boot of claim 1 , wherein said flexible lug is configured to be sufficiently pliable to permit each pad cup to move both up and down and side to side through at least a functional range effective to mimic independent pad motion in a dog that is relatively uninhibited by adjacent pad cups.

9. An animal boot comprising:

a boot top; and

a molded sole coupled to said boot top to define a paw receiving space there between;

said molded sole having a flexible lug coupled to at least two pad cups, wherein said molded sole further comprises:

a toe rising from a first edge of said paw receiving space; and

a tail rising from a second edge of said paw receiving space, said second edge of said paw receiving space distal to said first edge of said paw receiving space, wherein said tail further comprises a pair of generally linear treads spaced from each other, said generally linear treads configured to engage with a ground surface, and further configured to receive and retain a tensioned strap inbetween said pair of generally linear treads;

each of said two pad cups having

a cup base exterior surface that is configured to be in ground contact and an interior surface that is configured to be in contact with and receive a single dog's pad,

a cup sidewall that rises vertically from said cup base configured to be at a location between and separating adjacent dog's pads and substantially out of contact with a flat ground surface and spaced from a vertically rising side wall of an adjacent one of said at least wo pad cups, and

a coupling between said cup sidewall and said flexible lug distal to said cup base;

said flexible lug configured to separate a first one of said at least two pads from a second one of said two pad cups at a location between and separating adjacent dog's pads, said flexible lug further configured to be sufficiently pliable to permit each pad cup to move both up and down and side to side through at least a functional range effective to mimic independent pad motion in a dog that is relatively uninhibited by adjacent pad cups.

10. The animal boot of claim 9 , wherein said tail generally linear treads further comprise segmented treads configured to wrap at least partially about a dog's leg.

11. The animal boot of claim 9 , wherein each of said digital pad cups further comprise an extended portion configured to receive a dog's nails.

12. The unitary canine boot sole of claim 9 , wherein said tail further comprises an omnidirectional tread.

13. The unitary canine boot sole of claim 12 , wherein said toe further comprises unidirectional treads having a right triangular prism geometry.

14. The unitary canine boot sole of claim 13 , wherein said unidirectional treads further rise from a toe generally planar portion and said right triangular prism geometry of said toe unidirectional treads further comprises a face of said right triangle prism that is perpendicular to said generally planar portion and faces to said tail.
