THERMOSTAT WITH NEAR FIELD COMMUNICATION FEATURES
A thermostat for a building space. The thermostat includes a near field communications module and a processing circuit. The near field communications module is configured to communicate with a user device via near field communication. The processing circuit is configured to send data to the user device via the near field communications module. The processing circuit is further configured to receive data from the user device via the near field communication module and process the received data to identify the user or a user type.
1 . A thermostat for a building space, the thermostat comprising:
a near field communications module configured to communicate with a user device via near field communication; and
a processing circuit configured to:
send data to the user device via the near field communications module; and
receive data from the user device via the near field communication module and process the received data, wherein the data identifies the user or a user type.
2 . The thermostat of claim 1 , wherein the processing circuit is further configured to:
automatically set settings of the thermostat to user settings associated with the user;
automatically generate average user settings by averaging a plurality of user settings associated with a plurality of users; and
automatically set the thermostat settings to the average user settings when the plurality of users check in with the thermostat.
3 . The thermostat of claim 1 , wherein the data received from the user device comprises a password and the processing circuit is further configured to lock the thermostat with the password.
4 . The thermostat of claim 1 , wherein the processing circuit is further configured to make the user a master of the thermostat and allow the user control over thermostat settings when the user checks in with the thermostat and the thermostat is in an unlocked state.
5 . The thermostat of claim 1 , wherein the processing circuit is further configured to prompt the user to install an application for interacting with the thermostat on the user device when the user checks in with the thermostat for a first time.
6 . The thermostat of claim 5 , wherein the application for interacting with the thermostat receives thermostat settings from the user and transmits the settings to the thermostat through near field communication.
7 . The thermostat of claim 1 , wherein the processing circuit is configured to:
generate a performance report;
determine whether the user associated with the user device is authorized to receive the performance report; and
cause the near field communications module to send the performance report to the user device when the user device checks in with the thermostat and in response to a determination that the user is authorized to receive the performance report.
8 . The thermostat of claim 7 , wherein the performance report comprises at least one of:
an energy management report;
a system state;
temperature setpoint; and
a current temperature.
9 . The thermostat of claim 1 , wherein the processing circuit is further configured to apply a dealer configuration to the thermostat when:
the user device checks in with the thermostat;
the user device transmits the dealer configuration and a command to apply the dealer configuration to the thermostat; and
the user device is a dealer authorized device.
10 . The thermostat of claim 1 , wherein the processing circuit is further configured to cause the near field communications module to send a command to the user device causing the user device to generate an email, the email comprising fault information.
11 . The thermostat of claim 1 , wherein the processing circuit is further configured to:
detect faults in at least one of the thermostat and equipment connected to the thermostat;
generate a faults report comprising the detected faults; and
transmit the faults report to the user device through near field communication.
12 . The thermostat of claim 1 , wherein the processing circuit is further configured to cause the near field communications module to send trouble shooting information for a thermostat fault to the user device in response to a determination that the user device is an authorized dealer device.
13 . The thermostat of claim 12 , wherein the trouble shooting information comprises a command to retrieve troubleshooting information from a network.
14 . A method for nearfield communication with a thermostat, the method comprising:
sending data to a user device via a near field communications module;
receiving data from the user device via the near field communication module and processing the received data; and
checking in a user with the thermostat, wherein the user is associated with the user device.
15 . The method of claim 14 , wherein the method further comprises:
automatically changing settings of the thermostat to user settings associated with the user when the user checks in with the thermostat;
automatically generating average user settings by averaging a plurality of user settings associated with a plurality of users; and
automatically changing the thermostat settings to the average user settings when the plurality of users check in with the thermostat.
16 . The method of claim 14 , wherein checking in the user with the thermostat comprises making the user a master of the thermostat when the thermostat is in an unlocked state.
17 . The method of claim 14 , the method further comprising applying a dealer configuration to the thermostat when:
the user device checks in with the thermostat;
the user device transmits the dealer configuration and a command to apply the dealer configuration to the thermostat; and
the user device is a dealer authorized device.
18 . The method of claim 14 , wherein the method further comprises:
detecting faults in at least one of the thermostat and equipment connected to the thermostat;
generating a faults report comprising the detected faults; and
transmitting the faults report to the user device through near field communication.
19 . The method of claim 14 , wherein sending data to the user device via the near field communications module comprises sending trouble shooting information when the user device is an authorized dealer device.
20 . A thermostat for a building space, the thermostat comprising:
a near field communications module configured to communicate with a user device via near field communication; and
a processing circuit configured to receive data from the user device through the near field communication module and process the data.
