Abstract

Electrolyte solutions including combinations of high dielectric and low viscosity solvents. These solvent combinations provide low temperature performance and high temperature stability in lithium ion battery cells.

Claims (27)

1 . A lithium ion battery cell, comprising:

a first electrode;

a second electrode comprising lithium titanate; and

an electrolyte solution, the electrolyte solution comprising sulfolane and diethyl carbonate.

2 . The battery cell of claim 1 , wherein the electrolyte solution does not contain ethylene carbonate or propylene carbonate.

3 . The battery cell of claim 1 , wherein the electrolyte solution comprises propylene carbonate.

4 .- 7 . (canceled)

8 . A lithium ion battery cell, comprising:

a first electrode;

a second electrode comprising lithium titanate; and

an electrolyte solution, the electrolyte solution comprising sulfolane and isobutyl acetate.

9 . (canceled)

10 . A lithium ion battery cell, comprising:

a first electrode;

a second electrode comprising lithium titanate; and

an electrolyte solution, the electrolyte solution comprising sulfolane and methyl isovalerate.

11 .- 25 . (canceled)

26 . The battery cell of claim 8 , wherein the electrolyte solution does not contain ethylene carbonate or propylene carbonate.

27 . The battery cell of claim 8 , wherein the electrolyte solution comprises propylene carbonate.

28 . The battery cell of claim 10 , wherein the electrolyte solution does not contain ethylene carbonate or propylene carbonate.

29 . The battery cell of claim 10 , wherein the electrolyte solution comprises propylene carbonate.

30 . The battery cell of claim 1 wherein the electrolyte solution further comprises at least one linear carbonate solvent.

31 . The battery cell of claim 30 wherein the linear carbonate solvent is ethyl methyl carbonate, dimethyl carbonate, or a combination thereof.

32 . The battery cell of claim 8 wherein the electrolyte solution further comprises at least one linear carbonate solvent.

33 . The battery cell of claim 32 wherein the linear carbonate solvent is ethyl methyl carbonate, dimethyl carbonate, or a combination thereof.

34 . The battery cell of claim 10 wherein the electrolyte solution further comprises at least one linear carbonate solvent.

35 . The battery cell of claim 34 wherein the linear carbonate solvent is ethyl methyl carbonate, dimethyl carbonate, or a combination thereof.
