Abstract

A conveyor flight for a chain comprising at least two spaced apart links, and two side plates that connect the links, with each side plate including two spaced apart extension pins extending from the side plate. The flight comprises a metal support, and the metal support includes two spaced apart cylindrical portions adapted to receive the two spaced apart extension pins. The flight also includes a flexible casing surrounding the metal support.

Claims (30)

1. A chain link assembly of a conveyor chain, the assembly comprising:

a pair of parallel flight pins spaced apart by a distance, each pin having an outer surface, a first end, and a second end;

a pair of spaced apart, parallel side plates mounted on the pins;

a flight core secured to the first end of each flight pin and spaced apart from each side plate, the flight core defining a first side and a second side and further including an opening extending between the first side and the second side; and

an encapsulation at least partially surrounding the flight core, the encapsulation filling the opening in the flight core.

2. The chain link assembly of claim 1 , wherein the flight core includes a first end and a second end opposite the first end, the first end facing toward one of the side plates, wherein the encapsulation covers the flight core except for the first end of the flight core.

3. The chain link assembly of claim 1 , wherein the encapsulation surrounds at least a portion of the flight pins located adjacent the flight core.

4. The chain link assembly of claim 1 , wherein the encapsulation dampens sound caused by contact between the chain link assembly and adjacent conveyor components.

5. The chain link assembly of claim 1 , wherein the flight core includes a portion positioned between the flight pins and secured to both flight pins.

6. The chain link assembly of claim 1 , wherein the flight core defines a core length, and the encapsulation defines an encapsulation length greater than the core length.

7. A chain link assembly of a conveyor chain, the assembly comprising:

a pair of parallel flight pins spaced apart by a distance, each pin having an outer surface, a first end, and a second end;

a pair of spaced apart, parallel side plates mounted on the pins;

a flight core having a first end and a second end opposite the first end, the first end including at least one surface secured to the first end of one of the flight pins, the flight core spaced apart from the side plates by a gap; and

a sound dampening coating at least partially encapsulating the flight core.

8. The chain link assembly of claim 7 , wherein the flight core includes a first side, a second side, and an opening extending between the first side and the second side, and wherein material of the coating fills the opening.

9. The chain link assembly of claim 7 , wherein the coating surrounds at least a portion of the flight pins proximate the flight core.

10. The chain link assembly of claim 7 , wherein the first end faces toward one of the side plates, wherein the coating covers the flight core except for the first end of the flight core.

11. The chain link assembly of claim 7 , wherein a portion of the first end is positioned between the flight pins and includes an end surface facing toward the side plates, the end surface covered by the coating.

12. The chain link assembly of claim 7 , wherein the flight core includes a portion positioned between the flight pins and secured to both flight pins.

13. The chain link assembly of claim 7 , wherein the second end of the flight core defines a trapezoidal shape.

14. The chain link assembly of claim 7 , wherein the flight core defines a core length, and the coating defines a coating length greater than the core length.

15. The chain link assembly of claim 7 , wherein the flight core is removably connected to the flight pins, the flight core including a pair of spaced-apart plates and fasteners to clamp the plates together onto the pins.

16. The chain link assembly of claim 7 , further comprising an adhesive between the first end of each flight pin and the flight core to bond each flight pin to the flight core.

17. A flight assembly for a link of a chain conveyor, the link including a pair of parallel side plates and a pair of parallel flight pins extending transversely through the side plates, the flight assembly comprising:

a flight core configured to be secured to a first end of each flight pin, the flight core configured to be separated from each side plate by a space, the flight core including a first side, a second side opposite the first side, and an opening extending between the first side and the second side; and

an encapsulation at least partially surrounding the flight core, the encapsulation filling the opening in the flight core.

18. The flight assembly of claim 17 , wherein the flight core includes a first end and a second end opposite the first end, the first end facing toward one of the side plates, wherein the encapsulation covers the flight core except for the first end of the flight core.

19. The flight assembly of claim 17 , wherein the flight core has a first end and a second end, the second end of the flight core defining a trapezoidal shape.

20. The flight assembly of claim 17 , wherein the flight core defines a core length, and wherein the encapsulation defines an encapsulation length greater than the core length.
