Abstract

Configurations are disclosed for a health system to be used in various healthcare applications, e.g., for patient diagnostics, monitoring, and/or therapy. The health system may comprise a light generation module to transmit light or an image to a user, one or more sensors to detect a physiological parameter of the user's body, including their eyes, and processing circuitry to analyze an input received in response to the presented images to determine one or more health conditions or defects.

Claims (27)

1. A wearable augmented reality display device comprising:

a light source configured to output light for propagation into an eye of a wearer of the wearable augmented reality display device to form an image in the eye; and

a stack of waveguides configured to pass light from the world into the eye of the wearer, wherein each of the waveguides is configured to in-couple light from the light source and present augmented reality content to the wearer, the augmented reality content comprising a user interface configured to receive input from the wearer, wherein each waveguide of the one or more waveguides is configured to guide the in-coupled light therein by total internal reflection between opposing surfaces of the waveguide, and wherein one or more waveguides of the stack of waveguides are configured to output the light to the eye with a different amount of wavefront divergence than one or more other waveguides of the stack of waveguides,

wherein the wearable augmented reality device is configured to project the image to a particular portion of the wearer's eye and to detect a response regarding the image to determine the health of that portion of the eye.

2. The device of claim 1 , wherein the wearable augmented reality device is configured to project the image to another portion of the wearer's eye and to detect a response regarding the image to determine the health of that portion of the eye.

3. The device of claim 2 , wherein the wearable augmented reality device is configured to identify anomalies in the wearer's eye based on the portions of the eye tested.

4. The device of claim 3 , wherein the user interface is configured to receive a voluntary wearer input regarding the image projected to the wearer's eye, wherein the voluntary wearer input is the response regarding the image.

5. The device of claim 3 , wherein the ophthalmic system comprises a camera configured to image the eye, wherein the ophthalmic system is configured to detect an involuntary wearer response regarding the image by imaging the eye with the camera.

6. The device of claim 5 , wherein the involuntary wearer response regarding the image is a change in gaze.

7. The device of claim 3 , wherein the anomalies comprise a location of macular degeneration.

8. The device of claim 7 , wherein the ophthalmic system comprises a camera configured to image the eye, wherein the ophthalmic system is configured to determine a location of macular degeneration based imaging of a retina of the eye.

9. The device of claim 1 , wherein the wearable augmented reality device is configured to:

project a first image and a second image to a same portion of the wearer's eye;

detect a response regarding each image; and

compare the first response to the second response to determine the health of that portion of the eye.

10. The device of claim 9 , wherein at least one hue present in the first image is different from at least one hue present in the second image.

11. The device of claim 10 , wherein the wearable augmented reality device is configured to identify areas of reduced color sensitivity based on the portions of the eye tested.

12. The device of claim 1 , the wearable augmented reality device is configured to determine the health of a portion of the eye in real time.

13. The device of claim 1 , wherein the wearable augmented reality device is configured to store data regarding the projected images and the detected responses, and wherein the determining the health of a portion of the eye is performed at a later time based on the stored data.

14. The device of claim 13 , wherein the wearable augmented reality device is further configured to transmit the stored data to a remote location, and wherein the determining the health of a portion of the eye is performed remotely based on the transmitted data.

15. The device of claim 1 , wherein the display platform comprises a fiber scanning display.

16. The device of claim 1 , wherein the wearable augmented reality display device is configured to produce images, via the stack of waveguides, with multiple wavefront divergence corresponding to multiple depth planes.

17. The device of claim 16 , wherein the multiple depth planes comprises at least 2 depth planes.

18. The device of claim 17 , wherein the wearable device is configured to increase or decrease a spatial frequency of a periodic image projected to damaged areas of the eye.

19. The device of claim 1 , wherein the wearable augmented reality device is configured to project the image to a particular portion of the wearer's eye and to detect, via the user interface, a response regarding the image to determine the health of that portion of the eye.

20. The device of claim 1 , wherein each waveguide of the stack of waveguides comprises a diffractive in-coupling optical element.

21. The device of claim 1 , wherein each waveguide of the stack of waveguides comprises a diffractive out-coupling optical element configured to output the in-coupled light from the waveguide.
