Abstract

Systems and methods for providing remote approval of an image for printing are provided. One system includes a processing circuit in communication with an image capturing device that is configured to capture an image of a printed product. The processing circuit is configured to process the captured image into a processed image accurate to within a tolerance in a color space to indicate the visual appearance of one or more colors. The color space is a standardized color space, such as sRGB or CIELAB. The processing circuit is further configured to transmit the processed image to a display located remote from the image capturing device and to receive an input signal from a remote input device to allow a user to approve or reject the displayed processed image for printing on a print device.

Claims (38)

1. A system comprising:

an interface configured to receive data representative of a captured image of a printed product from an image capturing device of a printing press; and

a processing circuit communicably connected to the interface and configured to:

process the captured image into a processed image within a standardized color space, the processed image comprising data that, upon display on a display device, is accurate to a visual appearance of colors on the printed product within a tolerance of no greater than 4 ΔE of the colors in the standardized color space, and

transmit the processed image to a display device.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the tolerance is not greater than 2 ΔE of the colors in the standardized color space.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the color space is a sRGB or a CIELAB color space.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the processed image comprises information from greater than three channels in a visible light spectrum.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the processing circuit is further configured to:

receive an input signal from an input device indicating input from a user with respect to the processed image shown on the display device; and

determine whether the user has approved the displayed processed image using the input signal.

6. The system of claim 5 , wherein the processing circuit is configured to cause adjustment of at least one ink control device such that an image printed on the printing press substantially matches an approved image.

7. The system of claim 1 , further comprising the display device, wherein the display device is calibrated to the standardized color space.

8. A system comprising:

a processing circuit communicably connected to an image capturing device of a printing press, the image capturing device configured to generate a captured image of a printed product on the printing press, the processing circuit configured to:

process the captured image into a processed image comprising information representing the captured image in greater than three channels in a visible light spectrum, and

transmit the processed image to a display device.

9. The system of claim 8 , wherein the processing circuit is configured to process the captured image into the processed image within a standardized color space, the processed image comprising data that, upon display on the display device, is accurate to a visual appearance of colors on the printed product within a tolerance of no greater than 4 ΔE of the colors in the standardized color space.

10. The system of claim 9 , wherein the tolerance is not greater than 2 ΔE of the colors in the standardized color space.

11. The system of claim 9 , wherein the standardized color space is a sRGB or a CIELAB color space.

12. The system of claim 8 , wherein the processing circuit is further configured to:

receive an input signal from an input device indicating input from a user with respect to the processed image shown on the display device; and

determine whether the user has approved the displayed processed image using the input signal.

13. The system of claim 12 , wherein the processing circuit is configured to cause adjustment of at least one ink control device such that an image printed on the printing press substantially matches an approved image.

14. The system of claim 8 , further comprising the display device, wherein the display device is calibrated to the standardized color space.

15. A system comprising:

an image capturing device configured to capture an image of a printed product on a printing press; and

a processing circuit communicably connected to the image capturing device and configured to:

process the captured image into a processed image within a standardized color space, the processed image comprising data that, upon display on a display device, is accurate to a visual appearance of colors on the printed product within a tolerance of the colors in the standardized color space, and

transmit the processed image to a display device.

16. The system of claim 15 , wherein the tolerance is not greater than 4 ΔE of the colors in the standardized color space.

17. The system of claim 15 , wherein the color space is a sRGB or a CIELAB color space.

18. The system of claim 15 , wherein the processed image comprises information from greater than three channels in a visible light spectrum.

19. The system of claim 15 , wherein the processing circuit is further configured to:

receive an input signal from an input device indicating input from a user with respect to the processed image shown on the display device; and

determine whether the user has approved the displayed processed image using the input signal.

20. The system of claim 19 , wherein the processing circuit is configured to cause adjustment of at least one ink control device such that an image printed on

the printing press substantially matches an approved image.
