Abstract

Methods and systems for an improved navigation environment are provided. The navigation system can route users to preferred locations based on user profile data and past experience with the present driver and other drivers. The system provides more cost-effective and time-sensitive routing by incorporating other information about destinations. Further, the navigation system provides enhanced guidance in foreign or unfamiliar locations by incorporating experience from other drivers and other data.

Claims (46)

1 - 20 . (canceled)

21 . A method for providing navigation information for a vehicle, the method comprising:

a vehicle control system, including a processor, receiving route information for at least a first route and a second route;

the vehicle control system interrogating at least the first and the second route information, wherein the vehicle control system determines one or more of an origin, a destination, and other information related to the first and second route;

the vehicle control system storing the interrogated first and second route information;

the vehicle control system retrieving the interrogated route information;

the vehicle control system receiving sensor information from one or more sensors of the vehicle, the sensor information including contextual data and vehicle state information; and

the vehicle control system generating a suggested route based on the interrogated route information and the sensor information.

22 . The method of claim 21 , further comprising, prior to storing the first and second route information, the vehicle control system determining if at least one of the first and second interrogated route information should be stored remotely.

23 . The method of claim 22 , further comprising the vehicle control system storing the at least one of the first and second interrogated route information remotely away from the conveyance.

24 . The method of claim 23 , further comprising the vehicle control system providing the suggested route to a user based on the interrogated route information and the sensor information.

25 . The method of claim 21 , wherein at least one route of the at least the first and second routes was generated by a navigation system.

26 . The method of claim 25 , wherein the interrogated route information includes one or more of the destination, the origin, and a route travelled.

27 . The method of claim 26 , wherein the interrogated route information is stored remotely if deemed useful.

28 . The method of claim 27 , wherein the suggested route includes a location for a shop or business where the user may desire to buy a product, based on preference in a user profile associated with the user.

29 . The method of claim 28 , wherein the suggested route is created from routes driven by other drivers.

30 . The method of claim 28 , wherein the interrogated route information is stored in cloud storage.

31 . A conveyance comprising:

a processor operable to execute one or more modules, the modules comprising:

a route interrogation module operable to:

receive route information for at least a first and a second route;

interrogate at least the first and the second route information, wherein the route interrogation module determines one or more of an origin, a destination, and other information related to the first and second route;

store the interrogated first and second route information;

a route suggestion module operable to:

retrieve the interrogated route information;

receive sensor information from one or more sensors of a vehicle, the sensor information including contextual data and vehicle state information; and

generate a suggested route based on the interrogated route information and the sensor information.

32 . The conveyance of claim 31 , wherein the route interrogation module is further operable to:

determine if at least one of the first and second interrogated route information should be stored remotely; and

store the interrogated route information remotely away from the conveyance.

33 . The conveyance of claim 31 , wherein the route interrogation module is further operable to provide the suggested route to a user based on the interrogated route information, wherein at least one route of the two or more routes was generated by a navigation system, and wherein the interrogated route information includes one or more of a destination, an origin, and/or a route travelled.

34 . The conveyance of claim 33 , wherein the suggested route includes a location for a shop or business where the user may desire to buy a product, based on preference in a user profile associated with the user, and wherein the interrogated route information is stored in cloud storage.

35 . The conveyance of claim 34 , wherein the suggested route is created from routes driven by other drivers.

36 . A non-transitory computer readable medium stored on a storage medium and having instructions that when executed by a processor cause the processor to perform a method, the instructions comprising:

instructions to receive route information for at least a first route and a second route;

instructions to interrogate at least the first and the second route information;

instructions to store the interrogated route information locally with a vehicle;

instructions to retrieve the interrogated route information;

instructions to receive sensor information from one or more sensors of the vehicle, the sensor information including contextual data and vehicle state information; and

instructions to generate a suggested route based on the interrogated route information and the sensor information.

37 . The computer readable medium of claim 36 , further comprising:

instructions to determine if at least one of the first and second interrogated route information should be stored remotely; and

instructions to store the interrogated route information remotely away from the conveyance.

38 . The computer readable medium of claim 36 , further comprising instructions to provide the suggested route to a user based on the interrogated route information, wherein at least one route of the two or more routes was generated by a navigation system, and wherein the interrogated route information includes one or more of a destination, an origin, and/or a route travelled.

39 . The computer readable medium of claim 38 , wherein the suggested route includes a location for a shop or business where the user may desire to buy a product, based on preference in a user profile associated with the user, and wherein the interrogated route information is stored in cloud storage.

40 . The computer readable medium of claim 39 , wherein the suggested route is created from routes driven by other drivers.
