Abstract

Entomopathogenic fungal strains, compositions, and methods of using the strains for reducing overall insect damage.

Claims (28)

1. A treated seed composition comprising a seed, wherein the seed is coated with a seed additive and a fungal entomopathogen selected from the group consisting Metarhizium robertsii 15013-1 (deposited under NRRL accession number 67073), Metarhizium robertsii 23013-3 (deposited under NRRL accession number 67075), and Metarhizium anisopliae 3213-1 (deposited under NRRL accession number 67074), and wherein the composition comprises at least about 1×10 2 CFUs of the fungal entomopathogen.

2. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the seed is a genetically modified or transgenic seed.

3. The composition of claim 2 , wherein the genetically modified or transgenic seed comprises an insecticidal trait.

4. The composition of claim 3 , wherein the insecticidal trait controls a Coleopteran plant pest.

5. The composition of claim 4 , wherein the Coleopteran plant pest comprises a Diabrotica virgifera virgifera plant pest.

6. The composition of claim 2 , wherein the insecticidal trait comprises an event selected from the group consisting of event MON863, event MIR604, event 5307, event DAS-59122, event DP-4114, event MON 87411, and event MON88017.

7. The composition of claim 3 , wherein the genetically modified or transgenic seed further comprises an additional herbicide tolerance trait.

The composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition further comprises a biocontrol agent selected from the group consisting of a bacteria, a fungus, a yeast, a protozoa, a virus, an entomopathogenic nematode, a botanical extract, a protein, a nucleic acid, a secondary metabolite, and an innoculant.

9. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the composition further comprises an agrochemically active compound selected from the group consisting of an insecticide, a fungicide, a bactericide, and a nematicide.

10. The composition of claim 9 , wherein the fungicide comprises a fungicide composition selected from the group consisting of azoxystrobin, thiabendazole, fludioxonil, metalaxyl, tebuconazole, prothioconazole, ipconazole, penflufen, and sedaxane.

11. The composition of claim 10 , wherein the composition further comprises a compound selected from the group consisting of a safener, a lipo-chitooligosaccharide, a triglucosamine lipoglycine salt, an isoflavone, and a ryanodine receptor modulator.

12. The composition of claim 10 , wherein the fungal entomopathogen is resistant to a fungicide.

13. The composition of claim 10 , wherein the fungal entomopathogen comprises a spore.

14. The composition of claim 10 , wherein the fungal entomopathogen comprises a conidia.

15. The composition of claim 10 , wherein the fungal entomopathogen comprises a microsclerotia.

16. A method of increasing resistance of a plant to a plant pathogen, a pest, or an insect comprising providing a seed composition which comprises a seed, wherein the seed is coated with a seed additive and a fungal entomopathogen selected from the group consisting Metarhizium robertsii 15013-1 (deposited under NRRL accession number 67073), Metarhizium robertsii 23013-3) deposited under NRRL accession number 67075), and Metarhizium anisopliae 3213-1 (deposited under NRRL accession number 67074), and wherein the composition comprises at least about 1×10 2 CFUs of the fungal entomopathogen.

17. The method of claim 16 , further comprising planting the composition.

18. The method of claim 16 , wherein the seed is a genetically modified or transgenic seed.

19. The method of claim 18 , wherein the genetically modified seed comprises an insecticidal trait.

20. The method of claim 19 , wherein the insecticidal trait comprises a Bt trait, a silencing element or a non-Bt insecticidal protein.

21. The method of claim 20 , wherein the insecticidal trait is selected from the group consisting of event MON863, event MIR604, event 5307, event DAS-59122, event DP-4114, event MON 87411, and event MON88017.

The method of claim 16 , wherein the composition further comprises a biocontrol agent selected from the group consisting of a bacteria, a fungus, a yeast, a protozoa, a virus, an entomopathogenic nematode, a botanical extract, a protein, a nucleic acid, a secondary metabolite, and an innoculant.

23. The method of claim 16 , wherein the composition further comprises an agrochemically active compound selected from the group consisting of an insecticide, a fungicide, a bactericide, and a nematicide.

24. The method of claim 23 , wherein the fungicide comprises a fungicide composition selected from the group consisting of azoxystrobin, thiabendazole, fludioxonil, metalaxyl, tebuconazole, prothioconazole, ipconazole, penflufen, and sedaxane.

25. The method of claim 16 , wherein the composition further comprises a compound selected from the group consisting of a safener, a lipo-chitooligosaccharide, a triglucosamine lipoglycine salt, an isoflavone, and a ryanodine receptor modulator.

26. The method of claim 16 , wherein the fungal entomopathogen comprises a spore.

27. The method of claim 16 , wherein the fungal entomopathogen comprises a conidia.

28. The method of claim 16 , wherein the fungal entomopathogen comprises a microsclerotia.
