Abstract

A cleanable lid assembly is provided for a beverage container. The lid assembly has a lid housing having a drink aperture, and a seal assembly that is connected to the lid housing while movable between a first or operable position and a second or cleaning position. The seal assembly has a stopper that can open and close the drink aperture in the first position. The seal assembly is pivotally connected to the lid housing to transition to the cleaning position. A locking member extends transversely from the seal assembly to engage a stop on the lid housing and lock the seal assembly in the operable position. The locking member is moveable radially inward to disengage from the stop and to allow the seal assembly to transition from the first position to the cleaning position.

Claims (31)

1. A cleanable lid assembly for a beverage container, comprising:

a lid housing having an interior and a drink aperture;

a seal assembly having a hinge member pivotably connected to the lid housing via a first pivot connection at a first end thereof so that the hinge member is movable between a first or operable position extending across the interior and a second or cleaning position,

the seal assembly having a seal arm with a drink stopper, the seal arm pivotably connected to the hinge member via a second pivot connection, wherein the drink stopper is adjacent the drink aperture and is adapted to open and close the drink aperture with the hinge member in the first position, wherein the drink stopper is distal the drink aperture and the drink aperture is open for cleaning the lid assembly with the hinge member in the second position;

the hinge member having a locking portion at a second end thereof that engages the lid housing in the first position, the locking portion being moveable radially inward to disengage the hinge member from the first position and to allow the hinge member to be transitioned to the second position; and,

a trigger member connected to the lid housing, wherein the trigger member is adapted to pivot the seal arm with the hinge member in the first position to selectively open and close the drink aperture.

2. The cleanable lid assembly for a beverage container of claim 1 , wherein the hinge member includes a release portion spaced radially outwardly from the second pivot connection that is adapted to be manipulated by a user to move the locking portion to disengage the hinge member from the first position.

3. The cleanable lid assembly for a beverage container of claim 2 , wherein the lid housing includes a top wall and a downwardly depending sidewall, and the locking portion of the hinge member is configured to releasably engage the sidewall in the first position.

4. The cleanable lid assembly for a beverage container of claim 3 , wherein the sidewall includes a protrusion that projects radially inwardly, the protrusion providing an upwardly facing stop surface configured to engage the locking portion with the hinge member in the first position.

5. The cleanable lid assembly for a beverage container of claim 4 , wherein the release portion comprises an extension portion at the second end of the hinge member that extends transversely to a remaining portion of the hinge member.

6. The cleanable lid assembly for a beverage container of claim 5 , wherein the extension portion has a distal end positioned below a lower edge of the sidewall in the first position.

7. The cleanable lid assembly for a beverage container of claim 5 , wherein the extension portion is adapted to be resiliently flexed radially inwardly to thereby disengage the locking portion from the stop surface.

8. The cleanable lid assembly for a beverage container of claim 5 , wherein the extension portion includes the locking portion.

9. The cleanable lid assembly for a beverage container of claim 1 , wherein the hinge member includes an opening extending therethrough and the seal arm is configured to pivot into the opening to open the drink aperture with the hinge member in the first position.

10. The cleanable lid assembly for a beverage container of claim 1 , further comprising a trigger spring disposed within the interior of the lid housing and configured to bias the trigger member to a first position corresponding to the drink stopper closing the drink aperture with the hinge member in the first position.

11. The cleanable lid assembly for a beverage container of claim 1 , further comprising a seal spring configured to bias the seal arm so that the drink stopper closes the drink aperture with the hinge member in the first position.

12. The cleanable lid assembly for a beverage container of claim 1 , wherein the lid housing includes a vent opening extending therethrough, and further comprising a vent member configured to be moved between an open position exposing the vent opening and a closed position sealing the vent opening.

13. The cleanable lid assembly for a beverage container of claim 12 , wherein the trigger member is adapted to move the vent member between the open and closed positions simultaneously with pivoting the drink stopper.

14. A cleanable lid assembly for a beverage container, comprising:

a lid housing having a drink aperture;

a seal assembly having a hinge member pivotably connected to the lid housing via a first pivot connection at a first end thereof so that the hinge member is movable between a first or operable position and a second or cleaning position, the hinge member having an opening extending therethrough at a second end thereof,

the hinge member having a locking portion at the second end thereof that engages the lid housing in the first position, the locking portion being moveable to disengage the hinge member from the first position and to allow the hinge member to be pivoted to the second position; and

the seal assembly having a seal arm with a drink stopper, the seal arm pivotably connected to the hinge member via a second pivot connection, such that, with the hinge member in the first position, the seal arm is pivotable between a closed position where the drink stopper closes the drink aperture and an open position where the drink stopper is spaced from the drink aperture, the seal arm adapted to pivot into the opening of the hinge member in the open position.

15. The cleanable lid assembly for a beverage container of claim 14 , further comprising:

a trigger member connected to the lid housing, wherein the trigger member is adapted to be shifted to pivot the seal arm between the closed and open positions; and

a trigger spring disposed within an interior of the lid housing and configured to bias the trigger member to a first position corresponding to the seal arm being in the closed position.

16. The cleanable lid assembly for a beverage container of claim 14 , wherein the hinge member includes a release portion spaced radially outwardly from the second pivot connection that is adapted to be manipulated by a user to move the locking portion to disengage the hinge member from the first position.

17. The cleanable lid assembly for a beverage container of claim 14 , wherein the lid housing includes a top wall, a downwardly depending sidewall, and a protrusion that projects radially inwardly from the sidewall and includes an upwardly facing stop surface, and the locking portion of the hinge member is configured to releasably engage the stop surface in the first position.

18. The cleanable lid assembly for a beverage container of claim 17 , wherein the release portion comprises an extension portion at the second end of the hinge member that extends transversely to a remaining portion of the hinge member and includes a distal end that is positioned below a lower edge of the sidewall in the first position.

19. The cleanable lid assembly for a beverage container of claim 18 , wherein the extension portion is adapted to be resiliently flexed radially inwardly to thereby disengage the locking portion from the stop surface.

20. The cleanable lid assembly for a beverage container of claim 18 , wherein the extension portion includes the locking portion.
