Abstract

A method includes, with a bearer node, utilizing a first connection between the bearer node and a first type application node, the first type application node being associated with a first telecommunication service, the bearer node configured to process media traffic between endpoints. The method further includes, with the bearer node, utilizing a second connection between the bearer node and a second type application node, the second application node being associated with a second telecommunication service, the second telecommunication service being different than the first telecommunication service. The bearer node is configured to provide a common media platform to the first application node and the second application node.

Claims (31)

1. A method comprising:

with a bearer node, utilizing a first connection between the bearer node and a first type application node, the first type application node being associated with a first telecommunication service, the bearer node configured to process media traffic between endpoints; and

with the bearer node, utilizing a second connection between the bearer node and a second type application node, the second application node being associated with a second telecommunication service, the second telecommunication service being different than the first telecommunication service;

wherein the bearer node is configured to provide a common media platform to the first application node and the second application node, and wherein the bearer node comprises a Virtual Network Function (VNF) component within a Network Function Virtualization Infrastructure (NFVI).

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first type application node comprises one of: a Session Border Controller (SBC) control node, a Web Real-Time Communication (WebRTC) node, or a Media Resource Function (MRFC) node.

3. The method of claim 2 , wherein the second type application node comprises a different one of: a Session Border Controller (SBC) control node, a Web Real-Time Communication (WebRTC) node, or a Media Resource Function (MRFC) node.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the bearer node comprises a physical node.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first type application node and the second type application node are one of: physical nodes or virtual nodes.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein the bearer node comprises a media gateway having a first virtual media gateway and a second virtual media gateway.

7. The method of claim 6 , wherein the first type application node interfaces with the first virtual media gateway and the second type application node interfaces with the second virtual media gateway.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the bearer node provides media processing services comprising at least one of: a network translation service and a media data transcoding service.

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein the first type application uses at least one of: the network translation service and the media data transcoding service.

10. A system comprising:

a bearer node configured to process media traffic between endpoints over a network;

a first application node in communication with the bearer node, the first application node being associated with a first telecommunication service; and

a second application node in communication with the bearer node, the second application nod being associated with a second telecommunication service, the second telecommunication service being different than the first telecommunication service;

wherein the bearer node is configured to provide a common media platform to the first application node and the second application node; and

an additional bearer node, the additional bearer node configured to process media traffic between endpoints over the network, the additional bearer node being in communication with both the first application node and the second application node.

11. The system of claim 10 , wherein the first application node is a control node for a Session Border Controller (SBC).

12. The system of claim 10 , wherein the second application node is a Web Real-Time Communication (WebRTC) server.

13. The system of claim 10 , wherein the bearer node is configured to provide network translation services for media streams.

14. The system of claim 10 , wherein the bearer node is configured to provide media data transcoding services.

15. The system of claim 10 , wherein the bearer node and the additional bearer node include at least one physical node and one virtual node.

16. A method comprising:

with a first application node associated with a first telecommunication service, utilizing a first type media processing service from a bearer node in communication with the first application node over a network; and

with a second application node associated with a second telecommunication service, utilizing a second type media processing service from the bearer node, the bearer node being in communication with the second application node over the network, the second telecommunication service being different than the first telecommunication service and the second type media processing service being different than the first type media processing service; and

wherein the first media processing service comprises a transcoding service and the second media processing service comprises a network translation process.

17. The method of claim 16 , wherein the first telecommunication service comprises a Voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP) service and the second telecommunication service comprises a Web Real-Time Communication (WebRTC) service.

18. The method of claim 16 , wherein the bearer node comprises a Virtual Network Function (VNF) component within a Network Function Virtualization Infrastructure (NFVI).

19. The method of claim 16 , wherein the bearer node comprises a media gateway having a first virtual media gateway and a second virtual media gateway.

20. The method of claim 19 , wherein the first application node interfaces with the first virtual media gateway and the second application node interfaces with the second virtual media gateway.
