Abstract

An elevation adjustment sight assembly, comprising a windage carrier, a lift dial, and a lift spring. The windage carrier is specially structured to fit within a housing. The lift dial and the lift spring are specially structured to fit within the windage carrier and are movable in relation to the windage carrier to thereby adjust the height of a sight held by the housing.

Claims (38)

1. An elevation adjustment sight assembly, comprising:

a windage carrier, comprising;

a body having a top wall oppositely situated to a bottom wall, a proximal wall oppositely situated to a distal wall, and an anterior wall oppositely situated to a posterior wall, wherein the top wall has a channel longitudinally formed along a surface thereof, wherein the channel turns into a detent formed in the proximal wall of the body and into an opening formed on the distal wall of the body;

an anterior oriented extension member that extends from the anterior wall of the body, wherein the anterior oriented extension member has an opening formed therethrough;

a posterior oriented extension member that extends from the posterior wall of the body, wherein the posterior oriented extension member has an opening formed therethrough; and

a protrusion that extends from the bottom wall of the body, wherein the protrusion has a hole formed therethrough;

a lift dial, comprising:

a shaft having an anterior end oppositely situated to a posterior end; and

a cap member oriented towards the anterior end of the shaft;

a lift spring, comprising a longitudinally extending body that turns substantially perpendicularly to form a retaining hook portion at one end thereof, and that turns at an oppositely situated end thereof to form an annular shaped member, wherein the annular shaped member has an opening formed therethrough;

wherein the shaft of the lift dial is received within the hole formed through the protrusion of the windage carrier, the cap member of the lift dial is received within the opening of the annular shaped member of the lift spring, and the retaining hook portion of the lift spring is received within the opening formed on the distal side of the windage carrier.

2. The elevation adjustment assembly of claim 1 , further comprising a cam disposed around the shaft of the lift dial, wherein the cam is further disposed between the cap member of the lift dial and the protrusion of the windage carrier.

3. The elevation adjustment assembly of claim 1 , wherein the cap member comprises:

a collar having a top side oppositely situated to a bottom side, wherein the bottom side is disposed on the anterior end of the shaft; and

a base having a top side oppositely situated to a bottom side, wherein the bottom side is disposed on the top side of the collar;

wherein the annular shaped member of the lift spring is disposed around the collar.

4. The elevation adjustment assembly of claim 3 , wherein a groove is formed through the bottom side of the base.

5. The elevation adjustment assembly of claim 4 , further comprising a spring and ball subassembly disposed in the groove formed through the bottom side of the base.

6. The elevation adjustment assembly of claim 1 , further comprising a housing having a lower region that is configured to hold a crosslock, and an upper region comprising:

a catch plate having an opening formed therethrough;

a windage adjustment plate having an opening formed therethrough;

a space formed between the catch plate and the windage adjustment plate; and

a frame positioned between catch plate and windage adjustment plate, wherein the frame comprises a bottom side contiguously formed with the lower region of the housing, and a top side oppositely situated from the bottom side of the frame, wherein top side has an opening formed therethrough, wherein the opening leads into a chamber;

wherein:

the anterior oriented extension member of the windage carrier is directed towards the windage adjustment plate of the housing and the posterior oriented extension member of the windage carrier is directed towards the catch plate of the housing;

the shaft of the lift dial, the body of the lift spring, and the retaining hook portion of the lift spring are positioned within the chamber of the frame via the opening formed through the catch plate; and

the protrusion of the windage carrier is positioned within the chamber of the frame via the opening of the top side of the frame.

7. The elevation adjustment assembly of claim 6 , further comprising:

a windage adjustment knob having a longitudinally extending shaft having a first terminal end oppositely situated to a second terminal end; and

an engagement spring comprising a longitudinally extending body having a first terminal end and a second terminal end, wherein the second terminal end of the engagement spring turns to form a retaining loop portion comprising an arcuate-shaped member having an opening formed therethrough;

wherein the shaft of the windage adjustment knob is disposed through the opening of the arcuate-shaped member of the retaining loop portion, and further wherein the shaft of the windage adjustment knob is disposed through the opening of the windage adjustment plate, the opening of the anterior directed extension member, and the opening of the posterior directed extension member.

8. The elevation adjustment sight assembly of claim 7 , wherein the assembly further comprises an aperture, wherein the aperture comprises:

a generally cylindrical shaped body having a channel centrally formed therethrough, wherein the body of the aperture is disposed between the catch plate and the windage adjustment plate;

a first ocular plate disposed on an exterior side of the body of the aperture, wherein the first ocular plate has a groove formed thereon; and

a second ocular plate disposed on the exterior side of the body of the aperture, wherein the second ocular plate has a groove formed thereon.

9. The elevation adjustment sight assembly of claim 8 , wherein the shaft of the windage adjustment knob is disposed through the channel of the body of the aperture, and wherein the first and second ocular plates are rotatable in relation to the frame such that the groove of the first ocular plate is engaged with the longitudinally extending portion of the engagement spring in a first position, and the groove of the second ocular plate is engaged with the longitudinally extending portion of the engagement spring in a second position.

10. The elevation adjustment sight assembly of claim 9 , wherein the first terminal end of the engagement spring turns substantially perpendicularly from the longitudinally extending body of the engagement spring to form a retaining hook portion, wherein the retaining hook portion of the engagement spring is engaged with the detent formed on the frame.

11. The elevation adjustment sight assembly of claim 10 , wherein the windage adjustment knob further comprises a face positioned towards the first terminal end of the shaft of the windage adjustment knob, wherein the face comprises a plurality of ridges and grooves formed around a perimeter thereof, and wherein the engagement spring further comprises a substantially linearly formed body contiguously formed with the retaining loop portion of the engagement spring, wherein the substantially linearly formed body of the engagement spring is engaged with the plurality of ridges and grooves of the face of the windage adjustment knob.
