Abstract

A tactical rail arrangement for a firearm includes a tactical rail configured to secure one or more firearm accessories to a firearm, wherein the tactical rail includes a plurality of non-contact optical connections configured to transfer optical signals between one or more accessories mounted to the tactical rail and/or to one or more electrical systems of the firearm.

Claims (7)

1. A firearm accessory arrangement comprising:

a firearm accessory including a transmit non-contact optical connection associated with a transmitter optical sub-assembly (TOSA) and a receive non-contact optical connection associated with a receiver optical sub-assembly (ROSA), wherein the ROSA and TOSA are both housed together in a single housing,

wherein the TOSA includes a light emitting element within the housing, a collimating lens in the housing, and a TOSA window in the housing, wherein the light emitting element, the collimating lens, and the TOSA window are configured so light can pass from the light emitting element, through the collimating lens, and out the TOSA window, and

wherein the ROSA includes a light detecting element within the housing, a focusing lens within the housing, and a ROSA window in the housing, wherein the light detecting element, the focusing lens, and the ROSA window are aligned so light can pass in through the ROSA window, through the focusing lens, and into the light detecting element.

2. The firearm accessory arrangement as recited in claim 1 , wherein the TOSA is configured to convert electrical signals to optical signals and to transmit the optical signals through the transmit non-contact optical connection.

3. The firearm accessory arrangement as recited in claim 1 , wherein the ROSA is configured to receive optical signals through the receive non-contact optical connection and convert the received optical signals to electrical signals.

4. The firearm accessory arrangement as recited in claim 1 , wherein the accessory is configured to transmit and receive optical data to a tactical rail with non-contact optical connections and/or other firearm accessories with non-contact optical connections.
