Abstract

Film forming gel compositions, useful in creating conformable and flexible gel bandages, can be formulate from a film forming polymer, a tackifier, and a volatile solvent. The film forming gels can also include antiseptics, cationic polymer coagulants, fillers, and other additives. The gel compositions form relatively thick films when dried on tissue, and can exhibit enhanced breathability to promote wound healing.

Claims (27)

1. A gel composition comprising:

(a) about 10-30 wt. % silicone containing, film forming polymer, wherein the film forming polymer is a polydiorganosiloxane polyoxamide,

(b) about 2-20 wt. % tackifier

(c) about 60-80 wt. % volatile solvent, and

(d) about 0.5-20 wt. % crosslinked guanidinyl-containing polymer particles having primary or secondary amino groups,

each based on the total weight of the gel composition,

wherein the viscosity of the gel composition is between about 70,000 cps and about 800,000 cps; and

wherein the gel composition forms a bandage and/or tissue protector that can be removed by peeling.

2. The composition of claim 1 , comprising a coagulant.

3. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the guanidinyl-containing polymer is an aminopolymer functionalized with one or more guanidinyl groups.

4. The composition of claim 3 , wherein the guanidinyl-containing polymer is guanidinylated polyethyleneimine.

5. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the cationic polymer acts as a coagulant.

6. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the volatile solvent is selected from the group consisting of isooctane, hexamethyldisiloxane, and combinations thereof.

7. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the film forming polymer and tackifier are substantially soluble in the volatile solvent.

8. The composition of claim 1 , further comprising:

up to 2 wt. % silicone surfactant based on the total weight of the gel composition.

9. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the tackifier is an MQ resin.

10. The composition of claim 1 , wherein the total solids content of the gel composition is at least 15 wt %.

11. The composition of claim 1 , further comprising:

an antiseptic.

12. A bandage formed by drying the gel composition of claim 1 .

13. The bandage of claim 12 , having an upright MVTR of at least 300 g/m 2 /24 hours.

14. The bandage of claim 12 , having a Skin Adhesion of at least 50 g/inch and no greater than 900 g/inch.

15. The bandage of claim 12 , having an elongation of between about 100% and about 1400%.

16. The bandage of claim 12 , having an ultimate tensile strength of at least 0.3 MPa.

17. The bandage of claim 12 , having a thickness of between about 2 mil and about 20 mil.

18. The bandage of claim 12 , having a 180 degree peel adhesion from human skin of between about 25 g/in and about 1000 g/in.
