Abstract

A modular shade includes at least one module that consists of a head rail unit, a foot rail unit, at least one intermediate rail unit, and a plurality of slat components. A top slat may be coupled to the head rail unit and the intermediate rail unit, and a bottom slat component may be coupled to the intermediate rail unit and the foot rail unit. Further, additional intermediate rail units and intermediate slat components may be added to the module to alter the shape and size of the module, and the module may be coupled to one or more additional modules to change the overall shape and size of the modular shade.

Claims (54)

1. A shade, comprising:

a sheath;

a plurality of dowels where at least two dowels overlap and are secured to the sheath and a total overall length of the at least two dowels that overlap exceeds a total width of the sheath; and

one or more slat components, wherein each of the one or more slat components are coupled to the sheath utilizing one or more securing mechanisms,

wherein each of the one or more slat components are configured to be individually removed and attached to the sheath utilizing the one or more securing mechanisms,

wherein a first slat component of the one or more slat components is located on a side end of the shade and excess material of the first slat component that extends beyond the overall length of the at least two dowels that overlap is folded over and attached to a back of the shade, and

wherein the at least two dowels that overlap are inserted into a cell of the sheath and the securing mechanism is utilized to secure the at least two dowels that overlap to the sheath.

2. The shade as defined in claim 1 , wherein the total overall length of the at least two dowels that overlap are configured to be adjusted to alter an overall width of the shade.

3. The shade as defined in claim 1 , wherein the one or more slat components include at least two slat components that are coupled to each other.

4. The shade as defined in claim 3 , wherein the at least two slats components are coupled to each other utilizing one of strings, buttons, magnets, hook and loop fasteners, and zippers.

5. The shade as defined in claim 1 , wherein the one or more securing mechanisms include one or more of strings, buttons, magnets, hook and loop fasteners, and zippers.

6. The shade as defined in claim 1 , wherein the shade is lowered by pulling down on the sheath and the shade is raised by pushing up on the sheath.

7. The shade as defined in claim 1 , wherein the at least two dowels that overlap are positioned on an exterior of a cell of the sheath and the securing mechanism is utilized to secure the at least two dowels that overlap to the exterior of the sheath.

8. The shade as defined in claim 1 , wherein a selected portion of the first slat component that does not extend beyond the overall length of the at least two dowels that overlap and that extends beyond an overall length of the sheath is secured to a selected dowel of the at least two dowels.

9. A shade, comprising:

a sheath;

a plurality of dowels where at least two dowels overlap and are secured to the sheath and a total overall length of the at least two dowels that overlap exceeds a total length of the sheath; and

one or more slat components, wherein each of the one or more slat components are coupled to the sheath utilizing one or more securing mechanisms,

wherein each of the one or more slat components are configured to be individually removed and attached to the sheath utilizing the one or more securing mechanisms,

wherein a first slat component of the one or more slat components is located on a side end of the shade and excess material of the first slat component that extends beyond the overall length of the at least two dowels that overlap is folded over and attached to a back of the shade, and

wherein the sheath is secured to an adjacent sheath.

10. The shade as defined in claim 9 , wherein an adjacent dowel, secured to the adjacent sheath, is secured to a selected dowel of the at least two dowels that overlap.

11. A shade comprising:

a first cellular portion;

a plurality of first dowels where at least two first dowels overlap and are secured to the first cellular portion and a total overall length of the at least two first dowels that overlap exceeds a total width of the first cellular portion;

one or more first slat components, wherein each of the one or more first slat components are coupled to the first cellular portion utilizing one or more first securing mechanisms;

a second cellular portion;

a plurality of second dowels where at least two second dowels overlap and are secured to the second cellular portion and a total overall length of the at least two second dowels that overlap exceeds a total width of the second cellular portion; and

one or more second slat components, wherein each of the one or more second slat components are coupled to the second cellular portion utilizing one or more second securing mechanisms,

wherein the first cellular portion is coupled to the second cellular portion or a first selected dowel of the at least two first dowels is coupled to a second selected dowel of the at least two second dowels,

wherein each of the one or more first slat components are configured to be individually removed and attached to the first cellular portion utilizing the one or first more securing mechanisms, and

wherein a particular slat component of the one or more first slat components is located on a side end of the shade and excess material of the particular slat component that extends beyond the overall length of the at least first two dowels that overlap is folded over and attached to a back of the shade.

12. The shade as defined in claim 11 , wherein the total overall length of the at least two first dowels that overlap are configured to be adjusted to alter an overall width of the shade.

13. The shade as defined in claim 11 , wherein the one or more first slat components include at least two slat components that are coupled to each other.

14. The shade as defined in claim 13 , wherein the at least two slats components are coupled to each other utilizing one of strings, buttons, magnets, hook and loop fasteners, and zippers.

15. The shade as defined in claim 11 , wherein the one or more first securing mechanisms include one or more of strings, buttons, magnets, hook and loop fasteners, and zippers.

16. The shade as defined in claim 11 , wherein the shade is lowered by pulling down on the first cellular portion and the shade is raised by pushing up on the first cellular portion.

17. The shade as defined in claim 11 , wherein the at least two first dowels that overlap are inserted into a cell of the first cellular portion and the first securing mechanism is utilized to secure the at least two first dowels that overlap to the cellular portion.
