Abstract

Embodiments of the present invention disclose a method, computer program product, and system for real-time determination of attentiveness of an audience in a room to a speaker. A computer determines amounts of wireless activity of a computing device within the room of the audience over time during the presentation. Based in part on the amounts of wireless activity of the computing device, the computer determines and initiates display of measures of attentiveness of the audience over the time during the presentation, to display changes in the measures of attentiveness of the audience to the speaker during the presentation. In another embodiment, the computer determines amounts of attentiveness of the audience within the room over time during the presentation utilizing sensors located throughout the room.

Claims (33)

1. A computer system for real-time determination of attentiveness of an audience in a room to a speaker making a presentation, the computer system comprising:

one or more computer processors;

one or more computer-readable storage devices;

program instructions stored on computer-readable storage media for execution by at least one of the one or more processors, the program instructions comprising:

program instructions to determine amounts of attentiveness of the audience within the room over time during the presentation utilizing sensors located throughout the room; and

program instructions to determine a measure of attentiveness of the audience during the presentation, the measure of attentiveness being based on a measure including a noise level of the audience, not including applause, and based on utilizing amounts of movement of members of the audience to determine whether a difference exists between a current audience attentiveness level and an audience attentiveness baseline level;

program instructions to display changes in the measure of attentiveness of the audience to the speaker during the presentation.

2. The computer system of claim 1 , further comprising program instructions to monitor amounts of movement of members of the audience during the presentation, wherein the measure of attentiveness of the audience is also based on the amounts of movement of the members of the audience.

3. The computer system of claim 1 , further comprising program instructions to record the presentation correlated with the determined measure of attentiveness of the audience, wherein the determined measure of attentiveness of the audience correlates to a corresponding time in the presentation.

The computer system of claim 1 , further comprising program instructions to initiate a display of the measure of attentiveness of the audience, wherein the program instructions to initiate the display of the measure of attentiveness of the audience includes an indication of whether the speaker has lost the audience.

5. The computer system of claim 1 , wherein the measure of attentiveness of the audience is based on:

network communications in and out of computing devices within the room, and

a member of the audience not looking at an individual presenting the presentation.

6. The computer system of claim 5 , wherein the network communications include the computing devices accessing Internet through a wireless network.

7. The computer system of claim 5 , wherein the network communications include the computing devices accessing Internet through mobile phone communications.

8. The computer system of claim 5 , wherein the network communications include the computing devices accessing Internet through a wired network.

9. The computer system of claim 8 , further comprising program instructions to determine an increase in network communications by the computing devices within the room.

10. The computer system of claim 9 , further comprising program instructions to detect an increase in data sent by the computing devices within the room.

11. The computer system of claim 10 , further comprising program instructions to detect an increase in data sent by the computing devices within the room.

12. The computer system of claim 1 , further comprising program instructions to take pictures of the room upon occurrences of predetermined events.

13. The computer system of claim 12 , wherein the predetermined events include a slide transition in the presentation.

14. The computer system of claim 13 , further comprising program instructions to take pictures of the room at predetermined time intervals during the presentation.

15. The computer system of claim 1 , further comprising program instructions to

record the amounts of movement of members of the audience.

16. The computer system of claim 1 , further comprising program instructions to:

detect an amount of movement of a member of the audience sitting in a chair; and

utilize the amount of movement to determine whether a difference exists between a current audience attentiveness level and an audience attentiveness baseline level.

17. The computer system of claim 1 , further comprising program instructions to:

determine a baseline level for each sensor of the sensors within the room; and

utilize information from each sensor to determine a baseline level of the attentiveness of the audience within the room.

The computer system of claim 17 , wherein the baseline level for each sensor within the room includes a baseline value for microphones within the room, a baseline value for motion sensors within the room, a baseline value for still cameras within the room, and a baseline value for video cameras within the room.

19. The computer system of claim 1 , further comprising program instructions to determine a location of members of the audience utilizing a computing device to access Internet.

20. The computer system of claim 1 , further comprising program instructions to determine an audience device usage baseline level which indicates a number of members in the audience of the presentation using computing devices.
