Abstract

A dialysis system includes a dialysis machine configured to control fluid loss or ultrafiltration (“UF”) volume over a treatment; a graphical user interface (“GUI”) that allows selection of a prescription entry for the treatment; and a processor operating with the GUI, the processor programmed to (i) receive a plurality of prescription entries via a local or wide area mode of data communication, each prescription entry including at least one prescribed parameter for operating the dialysis machine to control the fluid loss or UF volume, and (ii) enable an operator to choose between the prescription entries provided at the GUI, and select one of the prescription entries for the treatment.

Claims (32)

1. A dialysis system comprising:

a dialysis machine configured to control fluid loss or ultrafiltration (“UF”) volume over a treatment;

a graphical user interface (“GUI”) that allows selection of a prescription entry for the treatment; and

a processor operating with the GUI, the processor programmed to (i) receive a plurality of prescription entries via a local or wide area mode of data communication, each prescription entry including at least one prescribed parameter for operating the dialysis machine to control the fluid loss or UF volume, and (ii) enable an operator to choose between the prescription entries provided at the GUI, and select one of the prescription entries for the treatment.

2. The dialysis system of claim 1 , wherein the mode of communication is via an internet connection.

3. The dialysis system of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of prescription entries further specify a treatment time for the treatment to control the dialysis machine.

4. The dialysis system of claim 1 , wherein the selected prescription entry is adjustable.

5. The dialysis system of claim 1 , wherein the at least one prescribed parameter for operating the dialysis machine to control the fluid loss or UF volume includes a parameter for controlling a UF pump.

6. A dialysis system comprising:

a dialysis machine configured to control fluid loss or ultrafiltration (“UF”) volume during a treatment;

a graphical user interface (“GUI”) that allows selection of a prescription entry for the treatment; and

a processor operating with the GUI, the processor programmed to (i) receive a data transfer via a local or wide area mode of data communication, the data transfer including a plurality of prescription entries for the dialysis machine, each prescription entry including at least one prescribed parameter for operating the dialysis machine to control the fluid loss or UF volume, and (ii) make each of the prescription entries available for selection by an operator at the GUI for the treatment.

7. The dialysis system of claim 6 , wherein the mode of communication is via an internet connection.

8. The dialysis system of claim 6 , wherein the plurality of prescription entries further specify a treatment time for the treatment to control the dialysis machine.

9. The dialysis system of claim 6 , wherein the prescription entries are adjustable.

10. The dialysis system of claim 6 , wherein the at least one prescribed parameter for operating the dialysis machine to control the fluid loss or UF volume includes a parameter for controlling a UF pump.

11. A dialysis system comprising:

a pump for pumping dialysis fluid;

valves for directing flow of the dialysis fluid;

a heater for heating the dialysis fluid;

a processor operably connected to the pump, the valves and the heater and programmed to control the pump, the valves and the heater; and

a graphical user interface (“GUI”) operating with the processor to run a treatment involving operation of the pump, the valves and the heater,

the processor receiving a plurality of prescription entries via a local or wide area mode of data communication, the prescription entries stored by the processor and provided at the GUI so that an operator can select one of the prescription entries to run the treatment.

12. The dialysis system of claim 11 , wherein the mode of communication is via an internet connection.

13. The dialysis system of claim 11 , wherein the plurality of prescription entries further specify a treatment time for the treatment.

14. The dialysis system of claim 11 , wherein the selected prescription entries are adjustable.

15. The dialysis system of claim 11 , wherein the pump and the valves include dialysis fluid contacting portions provided by a cassette.

16. A dialysis system comprising:

a dialysis machine configured to control fluid loss or ultrafiltration (“UF”) volume over a treatment;

a graphical user interface (“GUI”) that allows selection of a prescription entry for the treatment; and

a processor operating with the GUI, the processor programmed to (i) receive a plurality of prescription entries formed remote from the dialysis machine, each prescription entry including at least one prescribed parameter for operating the dialysis machine to control the fluid loss or UF volume, and (ii) enable an operator to choose between the prescription entries provided at the GUI, and select one of the prescription entries for the treatment.

17. The dialysis system of claim 16 , wherein the plurality of prescription entries are received via at least one of a memory card, flash memory, a modem connection, or an internet connection.
