Abstract

A universal remote control device and methods for controlling multiple devices with a universal remote control device are provided. The method includes receiving a boot completed notification from a control unit of the universal remote control device and displaying a troubleshooting icon on a display of the universal remote control device. Upon receiving a user input selecting the troubleshooting icon, the method includes generating a power user interface menu enabling discrete control of power for each device controlled by the universal remote control device. The power user interface menu is displayed on a least a portion of the display of the universal remote control device.

Claims (74)

1. A remote control device, comprising:

a display;

a memory configured to store a first power code associated with a first device, a second power code associated with the first device, and a wake-up code associated with a second device; and

a control unit operably connected to the memory and comprising one or more processors, wherein the control unit is configured to:

receive a first input that causes presentation of user interface elements, the user interface elements comprising:

a power on icon associated with the first power code, wherein the first power code causes the first device to transition from an ‘off’ state to an ‘on’ state,

a power off icon associated with the second power code, wherein the second power code causes the first device to transition from the on state to the off state, and

a wake-up icon associated with the wake-up code, wherein the wake-up code causes the second device to transition to a second on state;

receive a second input indicative of selection of the power on icon; and

cause to transmit the first power code.

2. The remote control device of claim 1 , wherein the control unit is further configured to:

receive a third input indicative of selection of the wake-up icon; and

cause to transmit the wake-up code.

3. The remote control device of claim 1 , wherein the wake-up code includes an instruction for the second device to initialize a data sync with the remote control device.

4. The remote control device of claim 1 , wherein the control unit is further configured to:

receive a third input indicative of selection of the power off icon; and

cause to transmit the second power code.

5. The remote control device of claim 1 , wherein the memory is further configured to store a first power status of the first device, wherein the control unit is further configured to:

receive a third input indicative of selection of the power on icon;

determine that the first power status of the first device indicates that the first device is in the on state; and

cause presentation, on the display, of a message requesting an indication of whether the first device was in the on state prior to the selection of the power on icon.

6. The remote control device of claim 5 , wherein the control unit is further configured to:

receive a fourth input, wherein the fourth input indicates that the first device was in the off state prior to the selection of the power on icon;

store, in the memory, an indication of that the first power status was incorrect; and

cause to transmit the first power code.

7. The remote control device of claim 1 , wherein the memory is further configured to store a first power status of the first device, and wherein the control unit is further configured to:

receive a third input indicative of selection of the power on icon;

determine that the first power status of the first device indicates that the first device is in the off state;

cause to transmit the first power code; and

store, in the memory, an indication associated with the first power status that the first device is in the on state.

8. The remote control device of claim 1 , wherein the wake-up icon is inoperable to transition the second device to a second off state.

9. A method comprising:

receiving, at a remote control device, a first input that causes presentation of user interface elements, the user interface elements comprising:

a power on icon associated with a first power code, wherein the first power code causes a first device to transition from an ‘off’ state to an ‘on’ state,

a power off icon associated with a second power code, wherein the second power code causes the first device to transition from the on state to the off state, and

a wake-up icon associated with a wake-up code, wherein the wake-up code causes a second device to transition to a second on state;

receiving a second input indicative of selection of the power on icon; and

causing to transmit the first power code.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein the wake-up icon is inoperable to transition the second device to a second off state.

11. The method of claim 9 , wherein the method further comprises:

receiving a third input indicative of selection of the wake-up icon; and

causing to transmit the wake-up code.

12. The method of claim 9 , wherein the wake-up code includes an instruction for the second device to initialize a data sync with the remote control device.

13. The method of claim 9 , the method further comprising:

receiving a third input indicative of selection of the power on icon;

determining that a first power status of the first device indicates that the first device is in the on state; and

causing presentation, on a display, of a message requesting an indication of whether the first device was in the on state prior to the selection of the power on icon.

14. The method of claim 13 , the method further comprising:

receiving a fourth input, wherein the fourth input indicates that the first device was in the off state prior to the selection of the power on icon;

storing, in a memory of the remote control device, an indication that the first power status was incorrect; and

causing to transmit the first power code.

15. The method of claim 9 , wherein the method further comprises:

receiving a third input indicative of selection of the power on icon;

determining that a first power status of the first device indicates that the first device is in the off state;

causing to transmit the first power code; and

storing, in a memory on the remote control device, an indication associated with the first power status that the first device is in the on state.

16. A method comprising:

receiving, at a remote control device, a first input that causes presentation of user interface elements, the user interface elements comprising:

a power on icon associated with a first power code, wherein the first power code causes a first device to transition from an ‘off’ state to an ‘on’ state,

a power off icon associated with a second power code, wherein the second power code causes the first device to transition from the on state to the off state, and

a wake-up icon associated with a wake-up code, wherein the wake-up code causes a second device to transition to a second on state;

receiving a second input indicative of selection of the power on icon;

causing to transmit the first power code; and

determining a first power status of the first device, wherein the first power status is stored in a memory of the remote control device.

17. The method of claim 16 , wherein the first power status indicates that the first device is in the on state, the method further comprising causing presentation, on a display of the remote control device, of a message requesting an indication of whether the first device was in the on state prior to receiving the power on icon.

18. The method of claim 17 , further comprising:

receiving a fourth input, wherein the fourth input indicates that the first device was in the off state prior to the selection of the power on icon;

storing, in the memory, an indication that the first power status was incorrect; and

causing to transmit the first power code.

19. The method of claim 16 , further comprising:

receiving a third input indicative of selection of the power off icon;

causing to transmit the second power code; and

storing, in the memory on the remote control device, an indication associated with the first power status that the first device is in the off state.

20. The method of claim 16 , wherein the wake-up icon is inoperable to transition the second device to a second off state.
