Abstract

A conferencing system includes a computer system coupled to a base station via a first connection. The computer system receives display identification data associated with the base station via the first connection. The computer system uses the received information to determine connectivity information associated with the base station. Also, the computer system connects to the base station via a second connection using the determined connectivity information. The computer system and the base station communicate data (e.g., video data, etc.) using the first connection or the second connection. The first connection can be based on video interface technology. For example, High-Definition Multimedia Interface (HDMI) technology, DisplayPort technology, any other video interface technology with capabilities for information that is the same as or similar to enhanced extended display identification data (E-EDID information) or DisplayID information, etc.

Claims (54)

1 . A method, comprising:

receiving, over a first connection and by a computer system, display identification data associated with a base station when the computer system is connected to the base station via the first connection;

determining connectivity information of the base station from the received display identification data; and

connecting the computer system to the base station via a second connection using the determined connectivity information.

2 . The method of claim 1 , wherein the first connection is a wired video connection, and wherein the second connection is a network connection.

3 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the wired video connection conforms to a High Definition Multimedia interface (HDMI) specification or a DisplayPort specification.

4 . The method of claim 2 , wherein the network connection comprises at least one of an Ethernet connection, a Wide Area Network (WAN) connection, an Internet connection, a cellular connection, a Local Area Network (LAN) connection, an intranet connection, or a Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) connection.

5 . The method of claim 2 , further comprising:

communicating content by the computing system to the base station, wherein the communication is performed using the first connection or the second connection.

6 . The method of claim 2 , further comprising identifying the base station based on the display identification data.

7 . The method of claim 2 , further comprising providing, by the computer system, a control signal to the base station via the second connection.

8 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the control signal is provided to the base station in response to a user input received by the computer system.

9 . The method of claim 7 , wherein the provided control signal is one of: start a conference, end a conference, join a conference, control loudspeaker volume, or change a display option.

10 . A computer system, comprising:

a video output configured to:

receive, over a first connection, display identification data associated with a base station when the video output is connected to the base station via the first connection;

a network interface; and

a processing unit coupled to the video output and the network interface, the processing unit being configured to:

determine connectivity information of the base station from the received display identification data; and

connect the computer system to the base station via a second connection through the network interface using the determined connectivity information.

11 . The computer system of claim 10 , wherein the first connection is a wired video connection, and wherein the second connection is a network connection.

12 . The computer system of claim 11 , wherein the wired video connection conforms to a High Definition Multimedia interface (HDMI) specification or a DisplayPort specification.

13 . The computer system of claim 11 , wherein the network connections comprises at least one of an Ethernet connection, a Wide Area Network (WAN) connection, an Internet connection, a cellular connection, a Local Area Network (LAN) connection, an intranet connection, or a Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) connection.

14 . The computer system of claim 11 , wherein the processing unit is further configured to communicate content to the base station, wherein the communication is performed using the first connection or the second connection.

15 . The computer system of claim 11 , wherein the processing unit is further configured to identify the base station based on the display identification data.

16 . The computer system of claim 11 , wherein the processing unit is further configured to provide a control signal to the base station via the second connection.

17 . The computer system of claim 16 , wherein the control signal is provided to the base station in response to a user input received by the processing unit.

18 . The computer system of claim 16 , wherein the provided control signal is one of: start a conference, end a conference, join a conference, control loudspeaker volume, or change a display option.

19 . A base station, comprising:

a video output configured to:

provide over a first connection, display identification data associated with the base station when a computer system is connected to the video output via the first connection;

a network interface; and

a processing unit coupled to the video output, the processing unit being configured to:

connect the base station to the computer system through the network interface via a second connection,

wherein the display identification data includes connectivity information for the second connection information that identifies the base station.

20 . The base station of claim 19 , wherein the first connection is a wired video connection, and wherein the second connection is a network connection.

21 . The base station of claim 20 , wherein the wired video connection conforms to a High Definition Multimedia interface (HDMI) specification or a DisplayPort specification.

22 . The base station of claim 20 , wherein the network connection comprises at least one of an Ethernet connection, a Wide Area Network (WAN) connection, an Internet connection, a cellular connection, a Local Area Network (LAN) connection, an intranet connection, or a Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) connection.

23 . The base station of claim 20 , wherein the processor is further configured to receive content from the computer system, wherein the communication is performed using the second connection.

24 . The base station of claim 20 , wherein the display identification data includes information that identifies the base station.

25 . The base station of claim 20 , wherein the processor is further configured to receive a control signal from the computer system via the second connection.

26 . The base station of claim 25 , wherein the control signal is provided to the processing unit in response to a user input received by the computer system.

27 . The base station of claim 25 , wherein the provided control signal is tone of: start a conference, end a conference, join a conference, control loudspeaker volume, or change a display option.
