Predicting cancer outcome
This document provides methods and materials related to assessing prostate cancer in mammals. For example, this document provides nucleic acids and polypeptides that can be analyzed to determine whether a male mammal having prostate cancer is susceptible to a good or poor outcome.
1. A method comprising:
a) obtaining or having obtained a nucleic acid expression level of one or more genes selected from the group consisting of HSPC150, COL10A1, SERPINI1, GRIN3A, and DIRAS2 and a nucleic acid expression level of one or more genes selected from the group consisting of TOP2A, F5, RRM2, KHDRBS3, NRP1, TDO2, and BIRC5, in a biological sample from a prostate cancer patient;
b) prognosing the patient with aggressive prostate cancer based on said nucleic acid expression levels; and
c) administering a treatment to the patient based on the prognosis; wherein the treatment is radiation and/or hormonal treatment.
2. The method of claim 1 , wherein said patient is a human.
3. The method of claim 1 , wherein said levels are determined in prostate tissue.
4. The method of claim 1 , wherein said levels are determined using PCR or in situ hybridization.
