Abstract

This invention relates to a pharmaceutical preparation for the treatment of compromised tissue such as skin wounds and ulcers in humans and animals and a method of preparation. This is a multifunctional natural matrix meant for the treatment of compromised tissues which also relates to the anti-cancer transdermal patch for melanoma therapy. Further, the invention comprises for the treatment of Alzheimer's, and multiple sclerosis also. The composition consists of water-solubilized nano-sized formulation of non-aqueous solvent extract of phyto-pharmaceuticals in herbal, animal or synthetic biocompatible gel or on matrix coated or both. The composition is used as a topical device for the treatment of compromised tissues in its preferred embodiment.

Claims (33)

1. A method of making a flexible, biocompatible bandage dressing comprising:

preparing a phytopharmaceutical formulation by preparing a phytoextract solution containing 0.5 to 20 percent of non-aqueous extract from the plant Emblica officinalis , 1.0 to 20 percent of non-aqueous extract from the plant camellia sinsensi and 0.1 to 12 percent of water soluble curcumin solution and mixing the phytoextract solution with 0.2 to 12.0 percent of aloe vera gel, wherein the aloe vera gel is prepared from 0.5 to 6.0 parts of a 0.5 to 3.0 percent aloe vera solution and 0.3 to 5.0 parts of a 1.0 to 10.0 percent nano-silver solution;

mixing the phytopharmaceutical formulation uniformly with a stirrer at a speed of 800 to 1200 rpm for about 10 to 40 minutes;

applying a layer of the phytopharmaecutical formulation a plurality of times onto a biocompatible, porous matrix to form a coating that is between about 10 μm to 500 μm of the phytopharmaceutical formulation on the biocompatible, porous matrix; and

drying the coating of the phytopharmaceutical formulation at 25 to 175 degrees C.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising drying each layer of the phytopharmaceutical formulation at 25 to 175 degrees C. after each layer is applied.

3. The method of claim 1 , further comprising mixing 0.5 to 9.0 percent tocopherol with the aloe vera gel before mixing the aloe vera gel with the phytoextract solution.

4. The method of claim 1 , wherein the phytoextract solution is prepared from the leaves of Camellia sinsensis and fruit of Emblica officinalis , comprising the steps of:

adding dried and crushed plant to 100% ethanol solution and stirring for about 20 hours at about 60 degrees C.;

separating the ethanolic extract by centrifugation at about 8000 rpm for about 15 minutes;

allowing the supernatant to dry from about 30 degrees C. to about 85 degrees C.; and

preparing the solution of the desired concentration by dissolving the dried ethanolic extract in a 10%-20% ethanol solution and sonication at 5-85 amplitude for about 15 minutes to 5 hours followed by evaporating the excess ethanol to form a water soluble plant extract.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the biocompatible, porous matrix comprises a woven cotton bandage.

6. The method of claim 5 , wherein the drying of the coating of the phytopharmaceutical formulation occurs at about room temperature.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the biocompatible, porous matrix comprises a silicon patch.

8. The method of claim 1 , further comprising encapsulating the phytopharmaceutical formulation as liposomes having a diameter of about 0.3 to 500 nanometers.

9. The method of claim 1 , further comprising applying a layer of the phytopharmaecutical formulation 2 to 10 times to form the coating that is between about 10 μm to 500 μm of phytopharmaceutical formulation on the biocompatible, porous matrix.

10. The method of claim 1 , further comprising sterilizing the coating of phytopharmaceutical formulation after drying by gamma irradiation.

11. A method of making a flexible, biocompatible bandage dressing comprising:

preparing a phytopharmaceutical formulation by preparing a phytoextract solution containing 0.5 to 20 percent of non-aqueous extract from the plant Emblica officinalis , 1.0 to 20 percent of non-aqueous extract from the plant camellia sinsensi and 0.1 to 12 percent of water soluble curcumin solution and mixing the phytoextract solution with 0.2 to 12.0 percent of aloe vera gel, wherein the aloe vera gel is prepared from 0.5 to 6.0 parts of a 0.5 to 3.0 percent aloe vera solution and 0.3 to 5.0 parts of a 1.0 to 10.0 percent nano-silver solution;

mixing the phytopharmaceutical formulation uniformly with a stirrer at a speed of 800 to 1200 rpm for about 10 to 40 minutes;

applying a layer of the phytopharmaecutical formulation a plurality of times onto a biocompatible, porous matrix formed as a silicon patch having microneedles for transdermal drug delivery to form a coating that is between about 10 μm to 500 μm of the phytopharmaceutical formulation on the silicon patch and microneedles; and

drying the coating of the phytopharmaceutical formulation at 25 to 175 degrees C.

12. The method of claim 11 , further comprising drying each layer of the phytopharmaceutical formulation at 25 to 175 degrees C. after each layer is applied.

13. The method of claim 11 , further comprising mixing 0.5 to 9.0 percent tocopherol with the aloe vera gel before mixing the aloe vera gel with the phytoextract solution.

14. The method of claim 11 , wherein the phytoextract solution is prepared from the leaves of Camellia sinsensis and fruit of Emblica officinalis , comprising the steps of:

adding dried and crushed plant to 100% ethanol solution and stirring for about 20 hours at about 60 degrees C.;

separating the ethanolic extract by centrifugation at about 8000 rpm for about 15 minutes;

allowing the supernatant to dry from about 30 degrees C. to about 85 degrees C.; and

preparing the solution of the desired concentration by dissolving the dried ethanolic extract in a 10%-20% ethanol solution and sonication at 5-85 amplitude for about 15 minutes to 5 hours followed by evaporating the excess ethanol to form a water soluble plant extract.

15. The method of claim 11 , further comprising encapsulating the phytopharmaceutical formulation as liposomes having a diameter of about 0.3 to 500 nanometers.
