Abstract

Methods, devices, and systems for wire loom assembly are disclosed. A cable assembly device includes an inner core and an outer housing. The inner core includes a receiving member comprising a first end and a second end. The inner core further includes a splitter member attached to the first end of the receiving member. The outer housing encloses at least a portion of the inner core.

Claims (24)

1. A cable assembly device comprising:

an inner core comprising

a receiving member having a first cylindrical portion comprising a first end and a second end, and

a splitter member attached proximate the first end of the first cylindrical portion of the receiving member; and

an outer housing having a second cylindrical portion, wherein at least a portion of the inner core is enclosed within the second cylindrical portion of the outer housing, and wherein the second cylindrical portion of the outer housing and at least the first cylindrical portion of the receiving member of the inner core are arranged coaxially with one another.

2. The cable assembly device of claim 1 , wherein the receiving member defines an inner cavity for receiving one or more elongated elements therein.

3. The cable assembly device of claim 2 , wherein the receiving member further comprises an insertion aperture that provides access to the inner cavity of the receiving member.

4. The cable assembly device of claim 3 , further comprising a wire guide attached proximate the splitter member of the inner core, wherein the wire guide guides the one or more elongated elements into the insertion aperture of the receiving member.

5. The cable assembly device of claim 1 , wherein the outer housing comprises a fixed portion and a movable portion, and wherein the fixed portion is attached to the inner core and the movable portion is attached to the fixed portion such that the movable portion is adjustable from a closed position to an opened position.

6. The cable assembly device of claim 5 , wherein when the movable portion of the outer housing is in the opened position, an underside of the receiving member is exposed.

7. The cable assembly device of claim 1 , wherein the splitter member is shaped to engage an inner cavity of a wire loom and open a split of the wire loom as the wire loom is moved over at least a portion of the splitter member to allow one or more elongated elements to be fed into the inner cavity of the wire loom via the receiving member of the inner core.

8. A system comprising:

a supporting member; and

a cable assembly device attached to the supporting member, the cable assembly device comprising

an inner core comprising

a receiving member having a first cylindrical portion comprising a first end and a second end, and

a splitter member attached proximate the first end of the first cylindrical portion of the receiving member, and

an outer housing having a second cylindrical portion, wherein at least a portion of the inner core is enclosed within the second cylindrical portion of the outer housing, and wherein the second cylindrical portion of the outer housing and at least the first cylindrical portion of the receiving member of the inner core are arranged coaxially with one another.

9. The system of claim 8 , wherein the receiving member defines an inner cavity for receiving one or more elongated elements therein.

10. The system of claim 9 , wherein the receiving member further comprises an insertion aperture that provides access to the inner cavity of the receiving member.

11. The system of claim 10 , wherein the cable assembly device further comprises a wire guide attached proximate the splitter member of the inner core, wherein the wire guide guides the one or more elongated elements into the insertion aperture of the receiving member.

12. The system of claim 8 , wherein the outer housing comprises a fixed portion and a movable portion, wherein the fixed portion is attached to the inner core and the movable portion is attached to the fixed portion such that the movable portion is adjustable from a closed position to an opened position, and wherein when the movable portion of the outer housing is in the opened position, an underside of the receiving member is exposed.

13. The system of claim 8 , wherein the splitter member is shaped to engage an inner cavity of a wire loom and open a split of the wire loom as the wire loom is moved over at least a portion of the splitter member to allow one or more elongated elements to be fed into the inner cavity of the wire loom via the receiving member of the inner core.

14. The system of claim 8 , wherein the supporting member comprises a frame attached to the cable assembly device and a stanchion coupled to the frame.
