Abstract

In some embodiments a method comprises disposing an implant into contact with a first bone portion and into contact with a second bone portion, the implant having (1) a first interface configured to receive a restraining member, and (2) a second interface. The method further comprises inserting a portion of the fastener member into the first interface. The method further comprises securing the fastener member such that the first bone portion and the second bone portion are fixed to each other, at least in part by a substance after the securing, at least a portion of the substance disposed through the second interface.

Claims (39)

1. An apparatus, comprising:

an implant having a first face, a second face, a first interface, and a second interface;

the first interface comprising a first aperture, the first interface configured to receive a fastener member; and

the second interface comprising at least two second apertures extending from the first face to the second face;

wherein the implant is configured to fuse a first bone portion with a second bone portion through the second interface after the implant is secured by the fastener member.

2. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the second apertures has a different shape or size than the first aperture.

3. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the first face is shaped to substantially compliment a shape of a first bone portion.

4. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the second interface is configured to receive a bone graft, the first bone portion and the second bone portion are fused to each other via the bone graft.

5. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein a surface of the first face is roughened or porous.

6. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the first interface is disposed substantially in a center of the first face.

7. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein at least one of the second apertures of the second interface has an irregular shape.

8. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein each of the second apertures of the second interface is disposed substantially equidistant about a center of the first face.

9. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein each of the second apertures is enclosed.

10. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the first face of the implant is concave and the second face of the implant is convex.

11. The apparatus of claim 1 , wherein the at least two second apertures encircle the first aperture.

12. A kit, comprising:

a fastener member; and

an implant comprising:

a first interface comprising a first aperture, the first interface configured to receive the fastener member; and

a second interface comprising a plurality of second apertures extending entirely through the implant;

wherein the fastener member is configured to secure the implant to a first bone portion and a second bone portion such that the first bone portion fuses with the second bone portion through the second interface after being secured.

13. The kit of claim 12 , wherein the second interface is configured to receive a bone graft to fuse the first bone portion and the second bone portion.

14. The kit of claim 12 , wherein the fastener member is a flexible fastening band.

15. An apparatus, comprising:

an implant having a first face, a second face, a first interface, a second interface, and at least one projection;

the first interface configured to receive a fastener member, wherein the first interface comprises a first aperture;

the second interface comprises a second aperture extending from the first face to the second face; and

at least one projection configured to engage a first bone portion;

wherein the implant is configured to be secured with the fastener member such that the first bone portion and a second bone portion are fused to each other after the implant is secured by the fastener member.

16. The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein the at least one projection comprises an elongate ridge extending from near the first interface toward a perimeter of the implant.

17. The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein the at least one projection comprises four projections, each projection disposed substantially equidistant about a center of the first face.

18. The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein the second aperture has a different shape or size than the first aperture.

19. The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein the first face is shaped to substantially compliment a shape of a first bone portion.

20. The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein the second interface is configured to receive a bone graft, the first bone portion and the second bone portion are fused to each other via the bone graft.

21. The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein a surface of the first face is roughened or porous.

22. The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein the first interface is disposed substantially in a center of the first face.

23. The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein at least one of the second apertures of the second interface has an irregular shape.

24. The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein the second aperture is enclosed.

25. The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein the first face of the implant is concave and the second face of the implant is convex.
