Abstract

Methods and systems to determine consumer locations based on navigational voice cues are disclosed. An example method includes identifying, with a processor, a route point designated by a navigational voice cue output by a navigation system providing directions to an operator of a vehicle. The example method also includes determining, with the processor, at least one of a location or an anticipated location of an occupant of the vehicle based on the route point.

Claims (39)

1. A system comprising:

means for receiving a navigational voice cue output by a navigation system in a vehicle, the receiving means being separate from the navigation system;

means for identifying a route point designated in the navigational voice cue; and

means for determining navigation information based on the route point, the navigation information including at least one of a present location or an anticipated location of the vehicle.

2. The system of claim 1 , further including:

means for determining whether the at least one of the present location or the anticipated location is within a target area for an advertisement; and

means for providing the advertisement to an occupant of the vehicle when the at least one of the present location or the anticipated location of the occupant is within the target area.

3. The system of claim 2 , wherein the advertisement is provided to the occupant by providing a link to a website containing the advertisement.

4. The system of claim 3 , further including means for dynamically updating the website based on updated advertising information.

5. The system of claim 1 , further including means for determining a travel path of the vehicle based on the route point and at least one of a road name, a second route point, or an intersection identified from a second navigational voice cue.

6. The system of claim 5 , further including means for determining an exposure of an occupant of the vehicle to an outdoor advertisement based on the travel path.

7. The system of claim 1 , further including means for identifying a city associated with the navigational voice cue based on the route point and additional navigation information associated with additional navigational voice cues.

8. A method comprising:

capturing, with a microphone in a vehicle, a navigational voice cue audibly output by a navigation system in the vehicle;

analyzing, by executing an instruction with a processor, the navigational voice cue to identify a route point designated in the navigational voice cue; and

determining, by executing an instruction with the processor, at least one of a present location or an anticipated location of the vehicle based on the route point.

9. The method of claim 8 , further including:

determining whether the at least one of the present location or the anticipated location is within a target area for an advertisement; and

transmitting a message to a mobile device of an occupant of the vehicle to provide the advertisement to the occupant.

10. The method of claim 9 , wherein the message is at least one of an email or a text message.

11. The method of claim 9 , wherein the message includes a link to a website containing the advertisement.

12. The method of claim 9 , wherein the mobile device corresponds to the navigation system.

13. The method of claim 9 , wherein the mobile device includes the microphone.

14. The method of claim 8 , further including identifying additional navigation information from additional navigation voice cues, the additional navigation information including at least one of a road name, a second route point, or an intersection designated in the additional navigational voice cues.

15. The method of claim 14 , further including:

determining a travel path of the vehicle based on the route point and the at least one of the road name, the second route point, or the intersection; and

determining an exposure of an occupant of the vehicle to an outdoor advertisement based on the travel path.

16. The method of claim 14 , further including identifying a city where the vehicle is located based on the route point and the additional navigation information.

17. A non-transitory computer readable medium comprising instructions that, when executed, cause a machine to at least:

detect, from audio captured with a microphone in a vehicle, a navigational voice cue audibly output by a navigation system in the vehicle;

analyze the navigational voice cue to identify a route point designated in the navigational voice cue; and

determine at least one of a present location or an anticipated location of the vehicle based on the route point.

18. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 17 , wherein the instructions further cause the machine to:

determine whether the at least one of the present location or the anticipated location is within a target area for an advertisement; and

transmit a message to a mobile device of an occupant of the vehicle to provide the advertisement to the occupant.

19. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 17 , wherein the instructions further cause the machine to identify additional navigation information from additional navigation voice cues, the additional navigation information including at least one of a road name, a second route point, or an intersection designated in the additional navigational voice cues.

20. The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 19 , wherein the instructions further cause the machine to:

determine a travel path of the vehicle based on the route point and the at least one of the road name, the second route point, or the intersection; and

determine an exposure of an occupant of the vehicle to an outdoor advertisement based on the travel path.
