Abstract

Methods, computer systems, and computer-storage medium are provided for managing patient alerts using a mobile device. A mobile device associated with a patient caregiver receives a critical alert related to the patient, and the alert is presented on the mobile device. The alert includes important contextual information that enables the caregiver to make a quick assessment of how to effectively address the alert. The alert includes options for accepting the alert or rejecting the alert. Acceptance of the alert enables the caregiver to communicate the alert to selected caregivers that can assist in managing the alert. Rejecting the alert causes the alert to be automatically communicated to additional caregivers associated with patient.

Claims (35)

1. One or more non-transitory computer-storage media storing computer-useable instructions that, when used by one or more computing devices, cause the one or more computing devices to perform a method of managing patient alerts, the method comprising:

receiving on a first mobile device an alert related to a patient, the first mobile device associated with a first caregiver assigned to the patient;

determining one or more additional caregivers;

presenting an alert response interface, wherein the alert response interface comprises multiple selectable response options;

displaying a list of the one or more additional caregivers, the list comprising one or more selectable graphical representations corresponding to the one or more additional caregivers;

receiving a selection of at least one additional caregiver from the list of the one or more additional caregivers;

providing a message entry area on the alert response interface for receiving textual input of a message corresponding to the alert; and

communicating the message to the selected at least one additional caregiver.

2. The computer-storage media of claim 1 , wherein the list of the one or more additional caregivers is ordered, at least in part, according to a proximity of the one or more additional caregivers to the patient.

3. The computer-storage media of claim 1 , further comprising determining an availability status of the one or more additional caregivers.

4. The computer-storage media of claim 3 , wherein the list of the one or more additional caregivers is ordered, at least in part, according to the availability status of the one or more additional caregivers.

5. The computer-storage media of claim 3 , wherein the one or more selectable graphical representations includes an indication of the availability status of the one or more additional caregivers.

6. The computer-storage media of claim 3 , wherein the status comprises one or more of: available, available but busy, and off-line.

7. The computer-storage media of claim 1 , wherein the message is communicated with alert details and patient information.

8. One or more non-transitory computer- storage media storing computer-useable instructions that, when used by one or more computing devices, cause the one or more computing devices to perform a method of managing patient alerts, the method comprising:

determining an availability status of one or more caregivers electronically associated with a patient that is a subject of an alert;

determining an alert level corresponding to the alert, the alert level comprising a critical alert or a noncritical alert;

communicating the alert to a first mobile device associated with a first caregiver of the one or more caregivers, the first caregiver having an availability status of available; and

receiving a response to the alert from the first mobile device associated with the first caregiver, the response comprising one or more of: an alert acceptance, an alert rejection, and an alert sharing notification.

9. The computer-storage media of claim 8 , further comprising determining a proximity of the one or more caregivers to a patient that is a subject of the alert.

10. The computer-storage media of claim 9 , wherein the first caregiver has the status of available and a closest proximity to the patient.

11. The computer-storage media of claim 8 , wherein the alert is communicated with an indication of the alert level.

12. The computer-storage media of claim 8 , wherein the alert sharing notification includes an identity of additional recipients of the alert.

13. A non-transitory computer-storage medium having stored thereon instructions, executable by a mobile device, that when executed by the mobile device, provide a user interface for managing patient alerts, the user interface comprising:

an alert response user interface comprising:

an alert identifier area that displays contextual information associated with an alert;

an alert rejection area configured to receive a user rejection of the medical alert;

an alert acceptance area configured to receive a user acceptance of the medical alert; and

a message entry area configured to receive textual input of a message corresponding to the medical alert.

14. The user interface of claim 13 , wherein the alert response user interface further comprises a message option area that provides one or more message options, wherein the one or more message options comprises a forward alert option.

15. The user interface of claim 13 , further comprising an additional caregivers interface.

16. The user interface of claim 15 , wherein the additional caregivers interface comprises one or more selectable graphical representations of additional caregivers.

17. The user interface of claim 16 , wherein the one or more selectable graphical representations includes one or more of: a picture, a role, a location, and an availability indicator associated with the additional caregivers.

18. The user interface of claim 17 , wherein the availability indicator comprises a graphical representation of an availability status associated with the additional caregivers.

19. The user interface of claim 13 , wherein the alert identifier area includes an alert level associated with the alert.
