Abstract

Embodiments of the present invention relate to a method, comprising: acquiring environmental real-time video from a camera system an environment; communicating the video to a content rendering engine; causing the rendering engine to generate, in real-time, a lighting model based on the video; rendering virtual content with lighting effects derived from the lighting model; and presenting, in real-time from a vantage point of a user of a head-worn see-through computer display, the virtual content in the environment such that its lighting and reflections appear to be consistent with the lighting and reflections from the environment, wherein the vantage point of the user is derived from a depth map derived from the camera system.

Claims (8)

1 . A method, comprising:

acquiring real-time video from a 360 degree field of view camera system that is positioned remotely from a head-worn see-through display in an environment that includes a user of the head-worn see-through display;

communicating the video to a content rendering engine;

causing the rendering engine to generate, in real-time, a lighting model based on the video;

rendering virtual content with lighting effects derived from the lighting model;

acquiring a real-time depth map of objects in the environment with an infrared depth mapping system that is proximate the 360 degree field of view camera system; and

presenting, in real-time from a vantage point of a user of the head-worn see-through computer display, the virtual content in the environment such that its lighting and reflections appear to be consistent with the lighting and reflections from the environment, wherein the vantage point of the user is derived from the depth map derived from the infrared depth mapping system.
