Abstract

According to one embodiment of the disclosure, a query generation system generally includes an element rank and inference engine in communication with a computing system and a user interface. The element rank and inference engine is operable to receive a user supplied element from the user interface, the user supplied element being associated with a first filter criterion. The element rank and inference engine is also operable to create, using the first filter criterion, at least one second element and rank according to their relative importance, the at least one first element and the at least one second element according to their associated first filter criterion and second filter criterion. Next, the element rank and inference engine may output the at least one first filter element and the second filter element to the computing system.

Claims (57)

1. A system comprising:

a computer server in communication with a first computing system comprising a user interface, the computer server comprising one or more memory devices and one or more processors, the computer server configured to:

receive, over one or more computer networks from the first computing system, a plurality of elements from the user interface;

derive, using a vectoral analysis algorithm, one or more inferred terms from the plurality of elements;

provide, to the first computing system over the one or more computer networks, the one or more inferred terms for display in the user interface;

receive filter criteria over the one or more computer networks from the first computing system, the filter criteria generated by a user manipulating one or more visual characteristics of one or more of the plurality of elements and the one or more inferred terms;

generate a query in accordance with one or more of the plurality of elements, the one or more inferred terms, and the filter criteria; and

transmit, over the one or more computer networks, the generated query to a second computing system of a search engine.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more visual characteristic are selected from the group consisting of a spatial order, a color, a size, a shape, an order, a relative proximity, a relative boldness, and a relative texture.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein manipulating the one or more visual characteristics of one or more of the plurality of elements and the one or more inferred terms comprises adding a symbol proximate to one or more of the plurality of elements and the one or more inferred terms.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of elements comprise one or more of:

keywords;

sentences;

phrases;

paragraphs;

documents;

photographs; and

icons.

5. A system comprising:

a first computing system in communication with a second computing system comprising a user interface, the first computing system comprising one or more memory devices and one or more processors, the first computing system configured to:

receive, over one or more computer networks from the second computing system, a plurality of elements from the user interface;

receive filter criteria over the one or more computer networks from the second computing system, the filter criteria generated by a user manipulating one or more visual characteristics of one or more of the plurality of elements and one or more inferred terms displayed in the user interface, wherein the one or more inferred terms are derived from the plurality of elements using a vectoral analysis algorithm;

generate a query in accordance with one or more of the plurality of elements, the one or inferred terms, and the filter criteria; and

transmit, over the one or more computer networks, the generated query to a third computing system of a search engine.

6. The system of claim 5 , wherein the first computing system is further configured to receive, over the one or more computer networks from the second computing system, a user-supplied element from the user interface.

7. The system of claim 5 , wherein the first computing system is further configured to provide instructions to the second computing system to remove one or more of the plurality of elements from the user interface according to a request from the user interface.

8. The system of claim 7 , wherein the first computing system is further configured to separately store the removed one or more elements in a memory.

9. The system of claim 5 , wherein the first computing system is further configured to store the generated query in a memory for use at a later time.

10. The system of claim 5 , wherein the one or more visual characteristic are selected from the group consisting of a spatial order, a color, a size, a shape, an order, a relative proximity, a relative boldness, and a relative texture.

11. The system of claim 5 , wherein manipulating the one or more visual characteristics of one or more of the plurality of elements and the one or more inferred terms comprises adding a symbol proximate to one or more of the plurality of elements and the one or more inferred terms.

12. The system of claim 5 , wherein the plurality of elements comprise one or more of:

keywords;

sentences;

phrases;

paragraphs;

documents;

photographs; and

icons.

13. A method comprising:

receiving, at a first computing system from a second computing system over one or more computer networks, a plurality of elements from a user interface;

receiving, at the first computing system from the second computing system over the one or more computer networks, filter criteria generated by a user manipulating one or more visual characteristics of one or more of the plurality of elements and one or more inferred terms displayed in the user interface, wherein the one or more inferred terms are derived from the plurality of elements using a vectoral analysis algorithm;

generating, by the first computing system, a query in accordance with one or more of the plurality of elements, the one or inferred terms, and the filter criteria; and

transmitting, by the first computing system over the one or more computer networks, the generated query to a third computing system of a search engine.

14. The method of claim 13 , further comprising, receiving, at the first computing system over the one or more computer networks from the second computing system, a user-supplied element from the user interface.

15. The method of claim 13 , further comprising providing instructions, by the first computing system to the second computing system over the one or more computer networks, to remove one or more of the plurality of elements from the user interface according to a request from the user interface.

16. The method of claim 15 , further comprising separately storing, by the first computing system, the removed one or more elements in a memory.

17. The method of claim 13 , further comprising storing, by the first computing system, the generated query in a memory for use at a later time.

18. The method of claim 13 , wherein the one or more visual characteristic are selected from the group consisting of a spatial order, a color, a size, a shape, an order, a relative proximity, a relative boldness, and a relative texture.

19. The method of claim 13 , wherein manipulating the one or more visual characteristics of one or more of the plurality of elements and the one or more inferred terms comprises adding a symbol proximate to one or more of the plurality of elements and the one or more inferred terms.

20. The method of claim 13 , wherein the plurality of elements comprise one or more of:

keywords;

sentences;

phrases;

paragraphs;

documents;

photographs; and

icons.
