Abstract

Adjustable rods for use in a filing system are disclosed. An example rod includes an elongated body having a first end and a second end, a first hook extending from the first end, and a second hook extending from the second end. In addition, the example rod includes a first resilient member having a first length. The first hook is coupled to the elongated body via the first resilient member, and the first length of the first resilient member is automatically adjustable during movement of the rod.

Claims (33)

1. An adjustable rod for use in a filing system, the rod comprising:

an elongated body having a first end and a second end;

a first hook extending from the first end, the first hook having:

a hook body including a downward extending limiting portion extending from the hook body,

a downward extending elongated portion, and

a downward extending extension portion, wherein the extension portion has a first face and a second face, a face of the limiting portion is opposite the second face of the extension portion;

a second hook extending from the second end; and

a first resilient member having a first length, the first hook coupled to the elongated body via the first resilient member, wherein the first length of the first resilient member is automatically adjustable during movement of the rod, wherein a distance between the face of the limiting portion and the second face of the extension portion limits the adjustment of the first length of the resilient member.

2. The rod of claim 1 , further including a second resilient member having a second length, the second hook coupled to the elongated body via the second resilient member.

3. The rod of claim 2 , wherein the second length of the second resilient member is automatically adjustable during movement of the rod.

4. The rod of claim 3 , wherein the first length of the first resilient member and the second length of the second resilient member are independently automatically adjustable.

5. The rod of claim 1 , wherein the first resilient member is integral with the first hook.

6. The rod of claim 1 , wherein the first hook and first resilient member are made of a first material and the elongated body is made of a second material different than the first material.

7. The rod of claim 1 , wherein the elongated body includes a crimp to hold the first hook and the first resilient member.

8. The rod of claim 1 , wherein the first resilient member has a sinusoidal shape.

9. The rod of claim 1 , wherein a face of the elongated portion is opposite the first face of the extension portion, the face of the elongated portion is coupled to the hook body via a first curved surface, and the first face of the extension portion is coupled to the hook body via a second curved surface.

10. The rod of claim 9 , wherein a portion of the hook body between the first curved surface and the second curved surface is to engage a rail in the filing system.

11. The rod of claim 1 , wherein a portion of the hook body between the extension portion and the limiting portion is retractable into and extendable out of the elongated body.

12. An adjustable rod for use in a filing system, the rod comprising:

an elongated body having a first end and a second end;

a first hook extending from the first end, the first hook having:

a hook body,

a downward extending elongated portion, and a downward extending extension portion;

a second hook extending from the second end; and

a first resilient member having a first length, the first hook coupled to the elongated body via the first resilient member, wherein the first length of the first resilient member is automatically adjustable during movement of the rod,

wherein the elongated body includes a top edge stamped around a first portion of a distal end of the first resilient member and a bottom edge stamped around a second portion of the distal end of the first resilient member to couple the first resilient member to the elongated body.

13. The rod of claim 12 , wherein the hook body further includes a downward extending limiting portion extending from the hook body.

14. The rod of claim 13 , wherein adjustment of the first length of the first resilient member is limited by a portion of the hook between the extension portion and the limiting portion.

15. The rod of claim 14 , wherein the first length of the first resilient member is to change to adjust a distance the first hook extends from the first end.

16. The rod of claim 14 further including a second resilient member, the second hook coupled to the elongated body via the second resilient member, the second hook extending from the second end a second distance.

17. The rod of claim 16 , wherein the second distance the second hook extends from the second end is automatically adjustable during movement of the rod.

18. The rod of claim 17 , wherein a length of the second resilient member is to change to adjust the second distance.

19. The rod of claim 17 , wherein the first distance and the second distance are independently automatically adjustable.
