Abstract

Computer-implemented systems find methods for synthesis of concept definitions and concept relationships from a domain of data, utilizing different semantic processing protocols such formal concept analysis and faceted classification synthesis from existing domain concepts that have a confidence gradient built into them. A cognitive or an input agent provides an input of an active concept which is matched against existing domain concepts. The resultant pool of relevant domain concepts is then used to derive virtual concept definitions using a semantic processing protocol. The derivation is then overlaid with a concept of relative proximity of an attribute from another within an attribute set. An additional layer of coherence is given by the relative proximity measure. The end result is a pool of related virtual concept definitions in a tree structure.

Claims (31)

1. A computer-implemented method for analyzing synthesized concepts using a semantic processing protocol, wherein the synthesized concepts comprise a plurality of new virtual concept definitions derived from a set of real concept definitions by semantic processing, the method comprising:

obtaining, either directly or indirectly via a network, by at least one processor executing executable instructions stored in at least one tangible memory, an input active concept definition from a cognitive agent via a system interface, wherein the cognitive agent includes at least one of a human user, a computer program receiving an input directly or indirectly from a human user, and a combination thereof;

extracting, by the at least one processor, a plurality of real concept definitions comprising attributes from at least one domain, wherein the domain is a corpus of data representing a knowledge domain, and wherein the at least one domain is accessible by the at least one processor;

matching, by the at least one processor, the active concept definition to the extracted real concept definitions;

synthesizing, by the at least one processor, a plurality of new virtual concept definitions from the real concept definitions by semantic processing, such that the virtual concept definitions form relationships between themselves, wherein the virtual concept definitions have a tree structure;

analyzing, by the at least one processor, the plurality of real concept definitions for attribute set coherence within the plurality of new virtual concept definitions, and the real concept definitions within the context of the active concept definition, wherein wherein analysis of the synthesized virtual concept definitions is determined based on a confidence gradient derived from the attribute set coherence.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising synthesizing additional possible virtual concept definitions using the virtual concept definitions.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the relationships are hierarchical structures.

4. The method of claim 3 , wherein a depth of a hierarchy of virtual concept definitions is selectable.

5. The method of claim 4 , wherein the selection of the depth of the hierarchy is based upon a confidence gradient.

6. The method of claim 1 , wherein a synthesizable number of virtual concept definitions is limited by quantity.

7. The method of claim 1 , further comprising searching a plurality of domains to build a selectable quantity of virtual concept definitions.

8. The method of claim 1 , wherein the virtual concept definitions are in a poly-hierarchical relationship within themselves.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the virtual concept definitions are in a poly-hierarchal relationship with the real concept definitions.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein a scope of the virtual concept definitions is variable with respect to a change in a relative proximity measure between attributes in an attribute set.

11. The method of claim 1 , wherein the virtual concept definitions comprise bins.

12. The method of claim 1 , wherein the semantic processing is based upon faceted classification synthesis.

13. The method of claim 12 , wherein an attribute substitution rule of replacing parent attributes with child attributes is made optional to synthesize virtual concept definitions.

14. A system for analyzing synthesized concepts using a semantic processing protocol, wherein the synthesized concepts comprise a plurality of new virtual concept definitions derived from a set of real concept definitions by semantic processing, the system comprising:

at least one processor, operable to execute executable instructions stored in at least one tangible memory, to:

receive an input active concept definition from a cognitive agent via a system interface, wherein the cognitive agent includes at least one of a human user, a computer program receiving an input directly or indirectly from a human user, and a combination thereof;

extract a plurality of real concept definitions comprising attributes from at least one domain, wherein the domain is a corpus of data representing a knowledge domain;

match the active concept definition to the extracted real concept definitions;

synthesize a plurality of new virtual concept definitions from the real concept definitions by semantic processing, such that the virtual concept definitions form relationships between themselves, wherein the virtual concept definitions have a tree structure; and

analyze the plurality of real concept definitions for attribute set coherence within the plurality of new virtual concept definitions, and the real concept definitions within a context of the active concept definition, wherein analysis of the synthesized virtual concept definitions is determined based on a confidence gradient derived from the attribute set coherence.

15. A computer-implemented method for synthesizing new knowledge from existing domains of information by formal concept analysis for tree-structure synthesis of concept definitions and relationships, the method comprising:

obtaining, either directly or indirectly via a network, by at least one processor executing executable instructions stored in at least one tangible memory, an input active concept definition from a cognitive agent via a system interface, wherein the cognitive agent includes at least one of a human user, a computer program receiving an input directly or indirectly from a human user, and a combination thereof;

extracting, by the at least one processor, a plurality of real concept definitions comprising attributes from at least one domain, wherein the domain is a corpus of data representing a knowledge domain;

matching, by the at least one processor, the active concept definition to the extracted real concept definitions;

synthesizing, by the at least one processor, a plurality of new virtual concept definitions from the real concept definitions by semantic processing, such that the virtual concept definitions form relationships between themselves, wherein the virtual concept definitions have a tree structure; and

analyzing the plurality of real concept definitions for attribute set coherence within the plurality of new virtual concept definitions, and the real concept definitions within a context of the active concept definition, wherein analysis of the synthesized virtual concept definitions is determined based on a confidence gradient derived from the attribute set coherence.
