Abstract

A food cutter assembly can include a spindle body defining an interior passage for receiving a food product. The food cutter assembly can also include a thrust disc connected to the spindle body. The thrust disc can include opposing surfaces extending radially from the rotational axis of the spindle body and a circumferential surface between the opposing surfaces. A cutting tool can be connected to an end of the spindle body for cutting the food product. The food cutter assembly can also include a housing for rotationally mounting the spindle body, where the housing includes a radial bearing to be positioned proximate to the thrust disc. The spindle body and the housing can define fluid passages extending from a port in the housing through the radial bearing to the spindle body and across the opposing surfaces and the circumferential surface to the spindle body.

Claims (43)

1. A food cutter assembly comprising:

a spindle body defining an interior passage for receiving a food product, the interior passage extending along a rotational axis of the spindle body;

a tube within the interior passage of the spindle body, extending the length of the spindle body along the rotational axis, wherein the spindle body rotates around the tube;

a thrust disc fixedly connected to the spindle body, the thrust disc including opposing surfaces extending radially from the rotational axis of the spindle body and a circumferential surface between the opposing surfaces;

a cutting tool connected to an end of the spindle body for cutting the food product, the interior passage configured to receive the food product;

a housing for rotationally mounting the spindle body; and

a radial bearing positioned proximate to the thrust disc when the spindle body is rotationally mounted to the housing;

wherein the spindle body and the housing define first fluid passages extending from a port in the housing through the radial bearing to the spindle body and across the opposing surfaces and the circumferential surface of the thrust disc to the spindle body; and wherein the spindle body and the tube define a second fluid passage between the spindle body and the tube that fluidly communicates with the first fluid passages.

2. The food cutting assembly as recited in claim 1 , further comprising a sprocket fixedly connected to the spindle body and configured to be driven by a belt to rotate the spindle body.

3. The food cutting assembly as recited in claim 1 , wherein the housing comprises a seal adjacent to the thrust disc.

4. The food cutter assembly as recited in claim 1 , wherein the thrust disc connects to the spindle body by an interference fit.

5. The food cutting assembly as recited in claim 1 , wherein the cutting tool comprises a helical knife.

6. The food cutting assembly as recited in claim 1 , further comprising a perforated tube configured to supply the food product to the cutting tool with a supply of water.

7. A food cutter assembly comprising:

a spindle body defining an interior passage for receiving a food product, the interior passage extending along a rotational axis of the spindle body;

a tube within the interior passage of the spindle body, extending the length of the spindle body along the rotational axis, wherein the spindle body rotates around the tube;

a first thrust disc fixedly connected to the spindle body, the first thrust disc including first opposing surfaces extending radially from the rotational axis of the spindle body and a first circumferential surface between the first opposing surfaces;

a second thrust disc fixedly connected to the spindle body, the second thrust disc including second opposing surfaces extending radially from the rotational axis of the spindle body and a second circumferential surface between the second opposing surfaces;

a cutting tool connected to an end of the spindle body for cutting the food product, the interior passage configured to receive the food product;

a housing for rotationally mounting the spindle body;

a first radial bearing positioned proximate to the first thrust disc and a second radial bearing positioned proximate to the second thrust disc when the spindle body is rotationally mounted to the housing;

wherein the spindle body and the housing define first fluid passages extending from a first port in the housing through the first radial bearing to the spindle body and across the first opposing surfaces and the first circumferential surface of the first thrust disc to the spindle body, and second fluid passages extending from a second port in the housing through the second radial bearing to the spindle body and across the second opposing surfaces and the second circumferential surface of the second thrust disc to the spindle body;

wherein the spindle body and the tube define a third fluid passage between the spindle body and the tube that fluidly communicates with the first and/or second fluid passages; and

a sprocket fixedly connected to the spindle body and configured to be driven by a belt to rotate the spindle body.

8. The food cutting assembly as recited in claim 7 , wherein the housing comprises a first seal adjacent to the first thrust disc and a second seal adjacent to the second thrust disc, the sprocket disposed between the first seal and the second seal.

9. The food cutter assembly as recited in claim 7 , wherein at least one of the first thrust disc and the second thrust disc connect to the spindle body by an interference fit.

10. The food cutting assembly as recited in claim 7 , wherein the cutting tool comprises a helical knife.

11. The food cutting assembly as recited in claim 7 , further comprising a perforated tube configured to supply the food product to the cutting tool with a supply of water.

12. A food cutter assembly comprising:

a spindle body defining an interior passage for receiving a food product, the interior passage extending along a rotational axis of the spindle body;

a tube within the interior passage of the spindle body, extending the length of the spindle body along the rotational axis, wherein the spindle body rotates around the tube;

a first thrust disc fixedly connected to the spindle body, the first thrust disc including first opposing surfaces extending radially from the rotational axis of the spindle body and a first circumferential surface between the first opposing surfaces;

a second thrust disc fixedly connected to the spindle body, the second thrust disc including second opposing surfaces extending radially from the rotational axis of the spindle body and a second circumferential surface between the second opposing surfaces;

a cutting tool connected to an end of the spindle body for cutting the food product, the interior passage configured to receive the food product; and

a housing for rotationally mounting the spindle body;

a first radial bearing positioned proximate to the first thrust disc and a second radial bearing positioned proximate to the second thrust disc when the spindle body is rotationally mounted to the housing;

wherein the spindle body and the housing define first fluid passages extending from a first port in the housing through the first radial bearing to the spindle body and across the first opposing surfaces and the first circumferential surface of the first thrust disc to the spindle body, and second fluid passages extending from a second port in the housing through the second radial bearing to the spindle body and across the second opposing surfaces and the second circumferential surface of the second thrust disc to the spindle body; and
