Abstract

In an example embodiment, there is disclosed herein an automated banking machine that includes an instrument acceptor operable to receive financial instruments. The machine is operable to cause user data obtained from a user during a user session with the machine to be sent to a transaction authorizing host computer. The machine is operable to generate an electronic deposit slip that includes a data representative of a financial account associated with the user data, and a value of value of a financial instrument received by the instrument acceptor during the user session. The electronic deposit slip to be sent to a server that is remotely located from the automated banking machine and data representative of the value of the financial instrument is sent to the authorizing host terminal to cause the financial account to be credited an amount corresponding to the value of the financial instrument.

Claims (59)

1. A non-transitory, tangible computer readable medium of instructions having instructions encoded thereon for execution by a processor, and when executed operable to:

communicate with a first remote processor to obtain data representative of a financial account for a transaction performed at an automated banking machine;

obtain data representative of an image of a negotiable instrument from an imaging device associated with the automated banking machine;

determine from the data representative of an image of a negotiable instrument a value of the negotiable instrument;

send a first message to the first remote processor that causes the first remote processor to credit the financial account at least a portion of the value of the negotiable instrument; and

send a second message to a second remote processor that is also remote from the first remote processor;

wherein the second message comprises data representative of the image of the negotiable instrument and the value of the negotiable instrument.

2. The non-transitory, tangible computer readable medium of instructions according to claim 1 , the instructions are further operable to:

obtain card data for the transaction from a card reader; and

determine that the card data corresponds with the financial account, wherein the financial account is an authorized financial account.

3. The non-transitory, tangible computer readable medium of instructions according to claim 2 , the instructions are further operable to:

cause the imaging device to cause image data to be produced for a plurality of negotiable instruments received by the machine during a single transaction session associated with the financial account corresponding to the card data;

for each negotiable instrument of the plurality of negotiable instruments, determine a value from the image data corresponding to each negotiable instrument of the plurality of negotiable instruments;

wherein the first message further comprises the value for each negotiable instrument of the plurality of negotiable instruments; and

wherein the second message further comprises the value for each negotiable instrument of the plurality of negotiable instruments.

4. The non-transitory, tangible computer readable medium of instructions according to claim 3 , wherein the numerical value from each negotiable instrument includes at least one of a courtesy amount value, a legal amount value and a Magnetic Ink Character Recognition (MICR) line character value or any combination thereof.

5. The non-transitory, tangible computer readable medium of instructions according to claim 4 , wherein the instructions are further operable to generate a cash-in ticket data, and to cause the cash-in ticket data to be sent to the second computer.

6. The non-transitory, tangible computer readable medium of instructions according to claim 5 , wherein the cash-in ticket data comprises a visual image of a cash-in ticket.

7. The non-transitory, tangible computer readable medium of instructions according to claim 6 , wherein the cash-in ticket data includes data corresponding to at least a portion of the card data.

8. The non-transitory, tangible computer readable medium of instructions according to claim 4 , the instructions are further operable to:

determine a cash value associated with received cash received through operation of a cash acceptor; and

include data corresponding to the cash value in the cash-in ticket data.

9. The non-transitory, tangible computer readable medium of instructions according to claim 8 , the instructions are further operable to:

periodically receive at least one message from the second computer, wherein the at least one message is indicative that the second computer is in operable condition to receive check images; and

responsive at least in part to non-receipt of the at least one message from the second computer, to cause at least one status message to be sent to the first computer.

10. The non-transitory, tangible computer readable medium of instructions according to claim 9 , the instructions are further operable to:

receive at least one change message from the first computer subsequent to causing the at least one status message to be sent to the first computer; and

responsive at least in part to receiving the at least one change message, to cause check image data to be sent to a third remote computer that differs from the first computer and second computer.

11. An apparatus, comprising:

a processor;

the processor is operable to obtain data representative of a financial account from a first remote processor;

the processor is operable to obtain data representative of an image of a negotiable instrument from an imaging device associated with an automated banking machine;

the processor is operable to determine from the data representative of an image of a negotiable instrument a value of the negotiable instrument;

the processor is operable to send a first message to the first remote processor that causes the first remote processor to credit the financial account at least a portion of the value of the negotiable instrument; and

the processor is operable to send a second message to a second remote processor that is also remote from the first remote processor;

wherein the second message comprises data representative of the image of the negotiable instrument.

12. The apparatus according to claim 11 , the processor is further operable to:

obtain card data for the transaction from a card reader; and

determine that the card data corresponds with the financial account, wherein the financial account is an authorized financial account.

13. The apparatus according to claim 12 , the processor is further operable to:

cause the imaging device to cause image data to be produced for a plurality of negotiable instruments received by the machine during a single transaction session associated with the financial account corresponding to the card data;

for each negotiable instrument of the plurality of negotiable instruments, determine a value from the image data corresponding to each negotiable instrument of the plurality of negotiable instruments;

wherein the first message further comprises the value for each negotiable instrument of the plurality of negotiable instruments; and

wherein the second message further comprises the value for each negotiable instrument of the plurality of negotiable instruments.

14. The apparatus according to claim 13 , wherein the numerical value from each negotiable instrument includes at least one of a courtesy amount value, a legal amount value and a Magnetic Ink Character Recognition (MICR) line character value or any combination thereof.

15. The apparatus according to claim 14 , the processor is further operable to generate a cash-in ticket data, and to cause the cash-in ticket data to be sent to the second computer.

16. The apparatus according to claim 15 , wherein the cash-in ticket data comprises a visual image of a cash-in ticket.

17. The apparatus according to claim 16 , wherein the cash-in ticket data includes data corresponding to at least a portion of the card data.

18. The apparatus according to claim 14 , the processor is further operable to:

determine a cash value associated with received cash received through operation of a cash acceptor; and

include data corresponding to the cash value in the cash-in ticket data.

19. The apparatus according to claim 18 , the processor is further operable to:

periodically receive at least one message from the second computer, wherein the at least one message is indicative that the second computer is in operable condition to receive check images; and

responsive at least in part to non-receipt of the at least one message from the second computer, to cause at least one status message to be sent to the first computer.

20. The apparatus according to claim 11 , the processor is further operable to:

store the data representative of an image of a negotiable instrument until the second message is sent;

receive an input to change from an operable mode to an inoperable mode; and

send the second message responsive to the input;

wherein the processor delays switching to the inoperable mode until the second message is sent.
