Abstract

A pump system including a pump, an inflow cassette and an outflow cassette. The inflow cassette has a damping flexible membrane covering a damping region configured to dampen pressure pulsations in washing fluid passing through the damping region. The pump has a plurality of individually actionable pressing members that can each be individually actuated to pinch one of a plurality of suction tubes of the outflow cassette to at least partially prevent fluid flow through the one of the plurality of the suction tubes.

2. The cassette for the pump of claim 1 , wherein:

the cassette is an inflow cassette.

3. The cassette for the pump of claim 1 , wherein:

the housing includes a top surface with the pressure sensing flexible membrane being located at the top surface.

4. The cassette for the pump of claim 3 , wherein:

the top surface has a contoured area surrounding the pressure sensing flexible membrane for allowing a pressure sensor to easily be aligned with the pressure sensing flexible membrane; and

the contoured area includes a ramp surrounding the pressure sensing flexible membrane.

5. The cassette for the pump of claim 4 , wherein:

the pressure sensing flexible membrane is circular.

6. The cassette for the pump of claim 3 , wherein:

the housing includes a bottom surface having a lock block thereon; and

the lock block has a lock edge configured to mate with a lock device of the pump to lock the cassette within the pump.

7. The cassette for the pump of claim 1 , wherein:

the inflow tube includes a pinch clamp for preventing fluid flow through the inflow tube.

8. The cassette for the pump of claim 1 , wherein:

the input tube includes a plurality of entrance paths for allowing the input tube to be connected to a plurality of fluid sources;

the plurality of entrance paths and the exit path meet at a junction.

9. The cassette for the pump of claim 8 , wherein:

each of the entrance paths includes a pinch clamp for preventing fluid flow through the plurality of entrance paths.

10. The cassette for the pump of claim 9 , wherein:

the housing comprises a body having a pair of legs;

the pair of legs define a U-shaped recessed area; and

the peristaltic tubing is located within the U-shaped recessed area.

11. The cassette for the pump of claim 9 , wherein:

the housing includes a radio frequency chip therein for communicating with the pump when the cassette is positioned within the pump.

12. A pump assembly comprising:

a pump housing having a cassette receptacle therein, the cassette receptacle having a rotary motor rotating a wheel; and

a cassette configured to be inserted into the cassette receptacle of the pump housing, the cassette comprising:

a cassette housing having an internal flow path including an ingress path section and an egress path section;

peristaltic tubing connected to the cassette housing and being fluidly located between the ingress path section and the egress path section;

an input tube fluidly connected to the ingress path section and being configured to provide a fluid to the cassette housing, with the ingress path section being fluidly located between the input tube and the peristaltic tubing; and

an inflow tube fluidly connected to the egress path section and being configured to provide the fluid to a patient, with the egress path section being fluidly located between the ingress path section and the inflow tube;

the wheel engaging the peristaltic tubing when the cassette is inserted into the cassette receptacle of the pump housing, rotation of the wheel by the rotary motor causing the fluid to be pushed through the cassette from the input tube to the inflow tube;

the internal flow path including a pressure sensing region in the egress path section; and

the housing including a pressure sensing flexible membrane being fluidly connected to the internal flow path through a slot in a wall of the cassette housing.

13. The cassette for the pump assembly of claim 12 , wherein:

the cassette is an inflow cassette.

14. The pump assembly of claim 12 , wherein:

the pump housing includes a sensor abutting the pressure sensing flexible membrane when the cassette is inserted into the cassette receptacle of the pump housing; and

the sensor measures pressure of the fluid within the pressure sensing region in the egress path section of the internal flow path of the cassette.

15. The pump assembly of claim 14 , wherein:

the cassette housing includes a top surface with the pressure sensing flexible membrane being located at the top surface.

16. The pump assembly of claim 15 , wherein:

the top surface of the cassette housing has a contoured area surrounding the pressure sensing flexible membrane;

the contoured area includes a ramp surrounding the pressure sensing flexible membrane;

the sensor is located in a projecting surface including an upper surface and a pair of angled surfaces on sides of the upper surface; and
