Abstract

An apparatus for effecting commercial transactions with a server using a transaction card via a communication device is provided. The apparatus includes a transaction device coupled with the communication device for capturing information from the transaction card and a controller for converting the captured card information into an encrypted audio signal and for transmitting the audio signal to the communication device. The communication device delivers the audio signal to the server for processing the commercial transaction.

Claims (72)

1. An apparatus for effecting commercial transactions between an input device and a remote transaction server using a communication device, said apparatus comprising:

an input device for capturing recorded information from a transaction card;

a sensor incorporated into said input device for reading said recorded information stored on said transaction card, said sensor including circuitry for reading an analog signal;

a controller coupled to said sensor for converting the recorded information stored on said transaction card into a format suitable for transmission to a communication device; and

a communication link for coupling said controller to a communication device for the transmission of said recorded information therebetween;

wherein the said sensor reads the recorded information stored on said transaction card, said controller converts said recorded information read by said sensor into a format suitable for transmission to said communication device and transmits said recorded information via the communication link to said communication device, and said communication device transmits said recorded information to a remote transaction server for processing a commercial transaction.

2. An apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the transaction card is selected from the group consisting of a debit card, a credit card, a cash card, a stored value card, an ATM card and any combination thereof.

3. An apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein said recorded information transmitted via the communication link to said communication device is encrypted.

4. An apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the communication link comprises a link selected from the group consisting of a wired connection, a wireless connection, an analog channel, a digital channel, Bluetooth connection, a USB connection, a Wi-Fi connection and any combination thereof.

5. An apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein said communication device receives transaction validation information from said remote transaction server.

An apparatus according to claim 1 , wherein the communication device comprises a device selected from a wireless communication device, a landline phone, a mobile phone, a cellular phone, a personal digital assistant (PDA), a pager computer, a Smart Phone™, a Blackberry™, an iPhone™, an iPad™ and a tablet.

7. An apparatus according to claim 1 , further comprising a stand operative to support the input device and communication device.

8. An apparatus for effecting commercial transactions between an input device and a remote transaction server using a communication device, said apparatus comprising:

an input device for capturing recorded information from a smart card;

a sensor incorporated into said input device for reading said recorded information stored on an integrated circuit incorporated into said smart card;

a controller coupled to said sensor for converting the recorded information stored on said smart card into a format suitable for transmission to a communication device; and

a communication link for coupling said controller to a communication device for the transmission of said recorded information therebetween;

wherein the said sensor reads the recorded information stored on said smart card, said controller converts said recorded information read by said sensor into a format suitable for transmission to said communication device and transmits said recorded information via the communication link to said communication device, and said communication device transmits said recorded information to a remote transaction server for processing a commercial transaction.

9. An apparatus according to claim 8 , wherein said smart card is selected from a group consisting of a chip card, EMV card, proximity detector or NFC card, contactless card, or any combination thereof.

10. An apparatus according to claim 8 , wherein said recorded information transmitted via the communication link to said communication device is encrypted.

11. An apparatus according to claim 8 , wherein the communication link comprises a link selected from the group consisting of a wired connection, a wireless connection, an analog channel, a digital channel, Bluetooth connection, a USB connection, a Wi-Fi connection and any combination thereof.

12. An apparatus according to claim 8 , wherein said communication device receives transaction validation information from said remote transaction server.

13. An apparatus according to claim 8 , wherein the communication device comprises a device selected from a wireless communication device, a landline phone, a mobile phone, a cellular phone, a personal digital assistant (PDA), a pager computer, a Smart Phone™, a Blackberry™, an iPhone™, an iPad™ and a tablet.

14. An apparatus according to claim 8 , further comprising a stand operative to support the input device and communication device.

15. An apparatus for effecting commercial transactions between an input device and a remote transaction server using a communication device, said apparatus comprising:

an input device for capturing recorded information from a payment device;

a sensor incorporated into said input device for reading said recorded information stored on said payment device, said sensor including circuitry for reading recorded information stored on an integrated circuit incorporated into said payment device;

a controller coupled to said sensor for converting the recorded information stored on said payment device into a format suitable for transmission to a communication device; and

a communication link for coupling said controller to a communication device for the transmission of said recorded information therebetween;

wherein the said sensor reads the recorded information stored on said payment device, said controller converts said recorded information read by said sensor into a format suitable for transmission to said communication device and transmits said recorded information via the communication link to said communication device, and said communication device transmits said recorded information to a remote transaction server for processing a commercial transaction.

16. An apparatus according to claim 15 , wherein said payment device is selected from a group consisting of a chip card, EMV card, proximity detector or NFC card, contactless card, mobile NFC device, or any combination thereof.

17. An apparatus according to claim 15 , wherein said recorded information transmitted via the communication link to said communication device is encrypted.

18. An apparatus according to claim 15 , wherein the communication link comprises a link selected from the group consisting of a wired connection, a wireless connection, an analog channel, a digital channel, Bluetooth connection, a USB connection, a Wi-Fi connection and any combination thereof.

19. An apparatus according to claim 15 , wherein said communication device receives transaction validation information from said remote transaction server.

20. An apparatus according to claim 15 , wherein the communication device comprises a device selected from a wireless communication device, a landline phone, a mobile phone, a cellular phone, a personal digital assistant (PDA), a pager computer, a Smart Phone™, a Blackberry™, an iPhone™, an iPad™ and a tablet.

21. An apparatus according to claim 15 , further comprising a stand operative to support the input device and communication device.

22. A method for effecting commercial transactions between an input device and a remote transaction server using a communication device, the method comprising the steps of:

providing an input device for capturing recorded information from a transaction card;

a sensor incorporated into said input device for reading said recorded information stored on said transaction card, said sensor including circuitry for reading an analog signal;

a controller coupled to said sensor for converting the recorded information stored on said transaction card into a format suitable for transmission to a communication device; and

a communication link for coupling said controller to a communication device for the transmission of said recorded information therebetween;

wherein the said sensor reads the recorded information stored on said transaction card, said controller converts said recorded information read by said sensor into a format suitable for transmission to said communication device and transmits said recorded information via the communication link to said communication device, and said communication device transmits said recorded information to a remote transaction server for processing a commercial transaction.

23. A method according to claim 22 , wherein the transaction card is selected from the group consisting of a debit card, a credit card, a cash card, a stored value card, an ATM card and any combination thereof.

24. A method according to claim 22 , wherein said recorded information transmitted via the communication link to said communication device is encrypted.

25. A method according to claim 22 , wherein the communication link comprises a link selected from the group consisting of a wired connection, a wireless connection, an analog channel, a digital channel, Bluetooth connection, a USB connection, a Wi-Fi connection and any combination thereof.

A method according to claim 22 , wherein the communication device comprises a device selected from a wireless communication device, a landline phone, a mobile phone, a cellular phone, a personal digital assistant (PDA), a pager computer, a Smart Phone™, a Blackberry™, an iPhone™, an iPad™ and a tablet.

27. A method according to claim 22 , wherein said communication device receives transaction validation information from said remote transaction server.

28. A method according to claim 22 , further comprising a stand operative to support the input device and communication device.

29. A method for effecting commercial transactions between an input device and a remote transaction server using a communication device, the method comprising the steps of:

providing an input device for capturing recorded information from a smart card;

a sensor incorporated into said input device for reading said recorded information stored on said smart card, said sensor including circuitry for reading said recorded information stored, on an integrated circuit incorporated into said smart card;

a controller coupled to said sensor for converting the recorded information stored on said smart card into a format suitable for transmission to a communication device; and

a communication link for coupling said controller to a communication device for the transmission of said recorded information therebetween;

wherein the said sensor reads the recorded information stored on said smart card, said controller converts said recorded information read by said sensor into a format suitable for transmission to said communication device and transmits said recorded information via the communication link to said communication device, and said communication device transmits said recorded information to a remote transaction server for processing a commercial transaction.

30. A method according to claim 29 , wherein said smart card is selected from a group consisting of a chip card, EMV card, proximity detector or NFC card, contactless card, or any combination thereof.

31. A method according to claim 29 , wherein said recorded information transmitted via the communication link to said communication device is encrypted.

32. A method according to claim 29 , wherein the communication link comprises a link selected from the group consisting of a wired connection, a wireless connection, an analog channel, a digital channel, Bluetooth connection, a USB connection, a Wi-Fi connection and any combination thereof.

33. A method according to claim 29 , wherein said communication device receives transaction validation information from said remote transaction server.

34. A method according to claim 29 , wherein the communication device comprises a device selected from a wireless communication device, a landline phone, a mobile phone, a cellular phone, a personal digital assistant (PDA), a pager computer, a Smart Phone™, a Blackberry™, an iPhone™, an iPad™ and a tablet.

35. A method according to claim 29 , further comprising a stand operative to support the input device and communication device.

36. A method for effecting commercial transactions between an input device and a remote transaction server using a communication device, the method comprising the steps of:

providing an input device for capturing recorded information from a payment device;

a sensor incorporated into said input device for reading said recorded information stored on said payment device, said sensor including circuitry for reading recorded information stored on an integrated circuit incorporated into said payment device;

a controller coupled to said sensor for converting the recorded information stored on said payment device into a format suitable for transmission to a communication device; and

a communication link for coupling said controller to a communication device for the transmission of said recorded information therebetween;

wherein the said sensor reads the recorded information stored on said payment device, said controller converts said recorded information read by said sensor into a format suitable for transmission to said communication device and transmits said recorded information via the communication link to said communication device, and said communication device transmits said recorded information to a remote transaction server for processing a commercial transaction.

37. A method according to claim 36 , wherein said payment device is selected from a group consisting of a chip card, EMV card, proximity detector or NFC card, contactless card, mobile NFC device, or any combination thereof.

38. A method according to claim 36 , wherein said recorded information transmitted via the communication link to said communication device is encrypted.

39. A method according to claim 36 , wherein the communication link comprises a link selected from the group consisting of a wired connection, a wireless connection, an analog channel, a digital channel, Bluetooth connection, a USB connection, a Wi-Fi connection and any combination thereof.

40. A method according to claim 36 , wherein said communication device receives transaction validation information from said remote transaction server.

41. A method according to claim 36 , wherein the communication device comprises a device selected from a wireless communication device, a landline phone, a mobile phone, a cellular phone, a personal digital assistant (PDA), a pager computer, a Smart Phone™, a Blackberry™, an iPhone™, an iPad™ and a tablet.

42. A method according to claim 36 , further comprising a stand operative to support the input device and communication device.
