Abstract

A method comprises receiving an unmarked content item comprising stream-enabled video segments, one or more segments including sequential black frames; identifying insertion point(s) for the segments based on location of black frame(s) without requiring user input; discarding segment(s) that do not include black frames; removing black frames from the segments; generating a playlist comprising a first source location associated with segments that do not include black frames, a second source location associated with segments having removed black frames, and a third source location associated with an ad provider system; providing the playlist to the consumer system to allow the consumer system to stream segments that do not include black frames from the first source location, second stream segments having removed black frames from the second source location until a corresponding insertion point is reached, and third stream ad(s) from the third source location when the corresponding insertion point is reached.

Claims (44)

1. A system comprising:

one or more processors; and

memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the system to perform:

receiving an unmarked content item, the unmarked content item comprising a plurality of stream-enabled video segments, at least one stream-enabled video segment of the plurality of stream-enabled video segments including a set of one or more sequential black frames;

identifying one or more insertion points for the at least one stream-enabled video segment of the plurality of stream-enabled video segments, the identification based on one or more locations of at least one black frame of the set of one or more sequential black frames without requiring user input;

discarding at least one of the plurality of stream-enabled video segments that does not include at least one set of one or more sequential black frames;

removing the set of one or more sequential black frames from the at least one stream-enabled video segment of the plurality of stream-enabled video segments including the set of one or more sequential black frames;

generating a playlist, the playlist comprising a first streaming source location associated with the at least one of the plurality of stream-enabled video segments that does not include at least one set of one or more sequential black frames, a second streaming source location associated with the at least one stream-enabled video segment of the plurality of stream-enabled video segments having a removed set of one or more sequential black frames, and a third streaming source location associated with an advertisement provider system configured to provide one or more stream-enabled advertisements to a consumer system; and

providing the playlist to the consumer system, the playlist allowing the consumer system to:

stream, from the first streaming source location, the at least one of the plurality of stream-enabled video segments that does not include at least one set of one or more sequential black frames,

stream, from the second streaming source location, the at least one stream-enabled video segment of the plurality of stream-enabled video segments having a removed set of one or more sequential black frames until a corresponding insertion point of the one or more insertion points is reached, and

stream, from the third streaming source location, the one or more stream-enabled advertisements when the corresponding insertion point of the one or more insertion points is reached.

2. The system of claim 1 , wherein the one or more stream-enabled advertisements comprise stream-enabled video.

3. The system of claim 1 , wherein the removing the set of one or more sequential black frames from the at least one stream-enabled video segment of the plurality of stream-enabled video segments including the set of one or more sequential black frames comprises modifying the at least one stream-enabled video segment of the plurality of stream-enabled video segments including the set of one or more sequential black frames to remove the set of one or more sequential black frames and insert one or more respective tags indicating one or more respective insertion points.

4. The system of claim 1 , wherein the first streaming source location comprises a content provider streaming source location.

5. The system of claim 1 , wherein the second streaming source location comprises a streaming source location of the system.

6. The system of claim 1 , wherein the third streaming source location comprises an advertisement provider streaming source location.

7. The system of claim 1 , wherein the first streaming source location, the second streaming source location, and the third streaming source location each comprise a respective uniform resource locator (URL) having a different domain.

8. A method, comprising:

receiving an unmarked content item, the unmarked content item comprising a plurality of stream-enabled video segments, at least one stream-enabled video segment of the plurality of stream-enabled video segments including a set of one or more sequential black frames;

identifying one or more insertion points for the at least one stream-enabled video segment of the plurality of stream-enabled video segments, the identification based on one or more locations of at least one black frame of the set of one or more sequential black frames without requiring user input;

discarding at least one of the plurality of stream-enabled video segments that does not include at least one set of one or more sequential black frames;

removing the set of one or more sequential black frames from the at least one stream-enabled video segment of the plurality of stream-enabled video segments including the set of one or more sequential black frames;

generating a playlist, the playlist comprising a first streaming source location associated with the at least one of the plurality of stream-enabled video segments that does not include at least one set of one or more sequential black frames, a second streaming source location associated with the at least one stream-enabled video segment of the plurality of stream-enabled video segments having a removed set of one or more sequential black frames, and a third streaming source location associated with an advertisement provider system configured to provide one or more stream-enabled advertisements to a consumer system; and

providing the playlist to the consumer system, the playlist allowing the consumer system to:

stream, from the first streaming source location, the at least one the plurality of stream-enabled video segments that does not include at least one set of one or more sequential black frames,

stream, from the second streaming source location, the at least one stream-enabled video segment of the plurality of stream-enabled video segments having a removed set of one or more sequential black frames until a corresponding insertion point of the one or more insertion points is reached, and

stream, from the third streaming source location, the one or more stream-enabled advertisements when the corresponding insertion point of the one or more insertion points is reached.

9. The method of claim 8 , wherein the one or more stream-enabled advertisements comprise stream-enabled video.

10. The method of claim 8 , wherein the removing the set of one or more sequential black frames from the at least one stream-enabled video segment of the plurality of stream-enabled video segments including the set of one or more sequential black frames comprises modifying the at least one stream-enabled video segment of the plurality of stream-enabled video segments including the set of one or more sequential black frames to remove the set of one or more sequential black frames and insert one or more respective tags indicating one or more respective insertion points.

11. The method of claim 8 , wherein the first streaming source location comprises a content provider streaming source location.

12. The method of claim 8 , wherein the second streaming source location comprises a streaming source location of a system.

13. The method of claim 8 , wherein the third streaming source location comprises an advertisement provider streaming source location.

14. The method of claim 8 , wherein the first streaming source location, the second streaming source location, and the third streaming source location each comprise a respective uniform resource locator (URL) having a different domain.

15. A non-transitory computer readable medium comprising executable instructions, the instructions being executable by a processor to perform a method, the method comprising:

receiving an unmarked content item, the unmarked content item comprising a plurality of stream-enabled video segments, at least one stream-enabled video segment of the plurality of stream-enabled video segments including a set of one or more sequential black frames;

identifying one or more insertion points for the at least one stream-enabled video segment of the plurality of stream-enabled video segments, the identification based on one or more locations of at least one black frame of the set of one or more sequential black frames without requiring user input;

discarding at least one of the plurality of stream-enabled video segments that does not include at least one set of one or more sequential black frames;

removing the set of one or more sequential black frames from the at least one stream-enabled video segment of the plurality of stream-enabled video segments including the set of one or more sequential black frames;

generating a playlist, the playlist comprising a first streaming source location associated with the at least one of the plurality of stream-enabled video segments that does not include at least one set of one or more sequential black frames, a second streaming source location associated with the at least one stream-enabled video segment of the plurality of stream-enabled video segments having a removed set of one or more sequential black frames, and a third streaming source location associated with an advertisement provider system configured to provide one or more stream-enabled advertisements to a consumer system; and
