Abstract

A real time medical communication system for sending Notifications of medical Alerts includes a data translation layer for receiving real time medical data from one or more sources via a network and an Alerts engine. The Alerts engine may include a message processing module including an entity extraction module configured to extract entities from the real time medical data; and a fragment generation module configured to define fragments comprising events of interest for defining one or more medical Alerts. The Alerts engine may further include an Alert generation module that may include fragment query and evaluation modules for analyzing received real time medical data for defined fragments and generating one or more medical Alerts therefrom. A Notification module may also be provided for sending Notifications of Alerts to users.

Claims (39)

1. A method for real time medical communication, comprising:

receiving, by a user device from a server computer, a notification of a medical alert, the notification prepared by the server computer based on notification criteria, at least one of the notification criteria is set by a user, the medical alert generated by the server computer as a result of analyzing events of interest relative to medical criteria, the events of interest determined by the server computer from parsing real time medical data from a data feed;

displaying the notification of the medical alert on the user device;

responsive to the user interacting with the notification of the medical alert on the user device, retrieving details of the medical alert from the server computer;

displaying the details of the medical alert, the details of the medical alert including a user-selectable item for expanding the details of the medical alert; and

responsive to the user selecting the user-selectable item, displaying expanded details of the medical alert on the user device.

2. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the details of the medical alert further include a user-selectable item for assigning the medical alert and wherein, responsive to the user selecting the user-selectable item for assigning the medical alert, the user devices retrieves from the server computer a list of user names to whom the medical alert is assignable and displays the list of user names to the user.

3. The method according to claim 2 , wherein once the medical alert is assigned by the user to a recipient selected from the list of user names, the medical alert is removed from the user's medical alert list and moved to the recipient's medical alert list.

4. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the details of the medical alert further include a user-selectable item for patient information and a user-selectable item for caregiver information and wherein the user device switches to display the patient information or the caregiver information depending upon whether the user-selectable item for patient information or the user-selectable item for caregiver information is selected.

5. The method according to claim 4 , wherein the patient information includes a patient identification, patient encounter information, patient diagnosis information, and hospital stay information.

6. The method according to claim 4 , wherein the patient information is displayed on the user device with a user-selectable item for patient-specific alert configuration.

7. The method according to claim 1 , wherein the notification of the medical alert includes a user-selectable item for canceling or viewing the medical alert.

8. An apparatus for real time medical communication, comprising:

a display;

at least one processor;

non-transitory computer memory; and

stored instructions translatable by the at least one processor to perform:

receiving, from a server computer, a notification of a medical alert, the notification prepared by the server computer based on notification criteria, at least one of the notification criteria is set by a user, the medical alert generated by the server computer as a result of analyzing events of interest relative to medical criteria, the events of interest determined by the server computer from parsing real time medical data from a data feed;

displaying the notification of the medical alert on the display;

responsive to the user interacting with the notification of the medical alert on the display, retrieving details of the medical alert from the server computer;

displaying the details of the medical alert, the details of the medical alert including a user-selectable item for expanding the details of the medical alert; and

responsive to the user selecting the user-selectable item, displaying expanded details of the medical alert on the display.

9. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the details of the medical alert further include a user-selectable item for assigning the medical alert and wherein, responsive to the user selecting the user-selectable item for assigning the medical alert, the apparatus retrieves from the server computer a list of user names to whom the medical alert is assignable and displays the list of user names to the user.

10. The apparatus of claim 9 , wherein once the medical alert is assigned by the user to a recipient selected from the list of user names, the medical alert is removed from the user's medical alert list and moved to the recipient's medical alert list.

11. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the details of the medical alert further include a user-selectable item for patient information and a user-selectable item for caregiver information and wherein the apparatus switches to display the patient information or the caregiver information depending upon whether the user-selectable item for patient information or the user-selectable item for caregiver information is selected.

12. The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein the patient information includes a patient identification, patient encounter information, patient diagnosis information, and hospital stay information.

13. The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein the patient information is displayed on the display with a user-selectable item for patient-specific alert configuration.

14. The apparatus of claim 8 , wherein the notification of the medical alert includes a user-selectable item for canceling or viewing the medical alert.

15. A computer program product for real time medical communication, the computer program product comprising at least one non-transitory computer readable medium storing instructions translatable by at least one processor of a user device to perform:

receiving, from a server computer, a notification of a medical alert, the notification prepared by the server computer based on notification criteria, at least one of the notification criteria is set by a user, the medical alert generated by the server computer as a result of analyzing events of interest relative to medical criteria, the events of interest determined by the server computer from parsing real time medical data from a data feed;

displaying the notification of the medical alert on the user device;

responsive to the user interacting with the notification of the medical alert on the user device, retrieving details of the medical alert from the server computer;

displaying the details of the medical alert, the details of the medical alert including a user-selectable item for expanding the details of the medical alert; and

responsive to the user selecting the user-selectable item, displaying expanded details of the medical alert on the user device.

16. The computer program product of claim 15 , wherein the details of the medical alert further include a user-selectable item for assigning the medical alert and wherein, responsive to the user selecting the user-selectable item for assigning the medical alert, the instructions are further translatable by the at least one processor to retrieve from the server computer a list of user names to whom the medical alert is assignable and display the list of user names to the user.

17. The computer program product of claim 16 , wherein once the medical alert is assigned by the user to a recipient selected from the list of user names, the medical alert is removed from the user's medical alert list and moved to the recipient's medical alert list.

18. The computer program product of claim 15 , wherein the details of the medical alert further include a user-selectable item for patient information and a user-selectable item for caregiver information and wherein the instructions are further translatable by the at least one processor to switch to display the patient information or the caregiver information depending upon whether the user-selectable item for patient information or the user-selectable item for caregiver information is selected.

19. The computer program product of claim 18 , wherein the patient information includes a patient identification, patient encounter information, patient diagnosis information, and hospital stay information.

20. The computer program product of claim 18 , wherein the patient information is displayed on the user device with a user-selectable item for patient-specific alert configuration.
