Abstract

A grain tank includes a generally flat bottom that is oriented at a position that is less than the angle of repose of the grain. A conveyor mechanism conveys grain along the bottom to a cross auger for unloading. One or more sensors may be placed in the grain tank to determine a state of the grain to further determine if the conveyor mechanism should be operated to unload grain from the grain tank.

Claims (8)

1. A method for unloading grain from an agricultural grain tank having vertical sidewalls and a downwardly inclined bottom surface between the vertical sidewalls, the bottom surface being inclined toward an inlet of a trough of an unloading auger, said method comprising:

detecting, via one or more sensors, a first state of the grain representative of a sloped angle of the surface of the grain in the grain tank; the one or more sensors connected to a programmed controller, the programmed controller configured to receive a signal from the sensor representative of the first state of grain in the tank

determining with the programmed controller if the first state of the grain in the grain tank is less than a first threshold, wherein the first threshold is representative of a predetermined sloped angle toward the inlet from one of the sidewalls facing the inlet;

operating a drive of a conveyer within the tank with the programmed controller to at least one of initiate movement or increase speed of movement, in response to the determining step determining that the sloped angle of the grain in the tank is less than the predetermined angle,

wherein the conveyor conveys grain along the inclined bottom surface of the grain tank to the trough inlet positioned lower than the conveyor.

2. The method of claim 1 , wherein at least one of:

the one or more sensors is connected to one of the sidewalls opposing the inlet to the trough inlet.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the predetermined angle is greater than or equal to the angle of repose of the grain in the tank.
