Abstract

A renal failure blood therapy system includes a renal failure blood therapy machine, concentration levels for each of a plurality of solutes removed from a patient's blood at each of the multiple times, a display device configured to display for selection at least one removed blood solute from the plurality of removed blood solutes, and a device programmed to (i) estimate at least one renal failure blood therapy patient parameter using the determined concentration levels for the at least one selected removed blood solute, (ii) determine a plurality of acceptable renal failure blood therapy treatments that meet a predetermined removed blood solute clearance for the at least one selected removed blood solute using the at least one renal failure blood therapy patient parameter, and (iii) enable selection of at least one of the plurality of acceptable renal failure blood therapy treatments for operation at the renal failure blood therapy machine.

4. The renal failure blood therapy system of claim 1 , wherein at least one of (i) the renal failure blood therapy machine is a home hemodialysis machine, (ii) the programmed device includes a doctor computer, (iii) the renal failure blood therapy machine is in data-networked communication with the doctor computer, or (iv) the display device is a display device for or operates with the programmed device.

5. The renal failure blood therapy system of claim 1 , wherein the display device is further configured to allow input of at least one renal failure blood therapy machine operating parameter, and wherein the programmed device is programmed to use the at least one renal failure blood therapy machine operating parameter when determining the plurality of acceptable renal failure blood therapy treatments.

6. The renal failure blood therapy system of claim 1 , wherein the programmed device is further configured to determine the predetermined removed blood solute clearance for the at least one selected removed blood solute prior to determining the plurality of acceptable renal failure blood therapy treatments.

7. The renal failure blood therapy system of claim 1 , wherein the programmed device is further configured to create a patient treatment schedule with at least two of the plurality of acceptable renal failure blood therapy treatments.

8. The renal failure blood therapy system of claim 1 , wherein the plurality of removed blood solutes includes at least one of: (i) urea; (ii) beta 2-microglobulin; or (iii) phosphorus.

9. The renal failure blood therapy system of claim 1 , wherein the display device is configured to display a duration, a frequency, a blood flowrate and a dialysate flowrate for each of the plurality of acceptable renal failure blood therapy treatments.

10. A renal failure blood therapy system comprising:

a renal failure blood therapy machine;

results from a test including multiple blood samples taken at multiple times during a test renal failure blood therapy, the results including concentration levels for each of a plurality of solutes removed from a patient's blood at each of the multiple times;

a device programmed to (i) estimate at least one renal failure blood therapy patient parameter using the determined concentration levels for at least one removed blood solute of the plurality of removed blood solutes, and (ii) determine a plurality of acceptable renal failure blood therapy duration/frequency combinations that meet a predetermined removed blood solute clearance for the at least one removed blood solute using the at least one renal failure blood therapy patient parameter; and

a display device configured to display the plurality of acceptable renal failure blood therapy duration/frequency combinations for selection of at least one of the acceptable renal failure blood therapy duration/frequency combinations for operation at the renal failure blood therapy machine.

11. The renal failure blood therapy system of claim 10 , wherein the display device is configured to display acceptable renal failure blood therapy duration/frequency combinations that meet respective predetermined removed blood solute clearances for more than one of the plurality of removed blood solutes.

12. The renal failure blood therapy system of claim 10 , wherein the display device is configured to display at least one of (i) renal failure blood therapy duration/frequency combinations that meet a predetermined removed blood solute clearance for one of the plurality of removed blood solutes but that do not meet a predetermined removed blood solute clearance for another of the plurality of removed blood solutes, or (ii) a blood flowrate and a dialysate flowrate for each of the renal failure blood therapy duration/frequency combinations.

13. The renal failure blood therapy system of claim 10 , wherein the display device is a display device for or operates with the programmed device.

14. A renal failure blood therapy method comprising:

receiving, in a processor, data indicative of a plurality of removed blood solutes at each of multiple times for a patient;

determining, via the processor, the patient's concentration levels for each of the plurality of removed blood solutes at each of the multiple times;

receiving, in the processor, a selection of at least one removed blood solute from the plurality of removed blood solutes;
