Abstract

According to one embodiment, a liquid crystal display comprising a first substrate, a second substrate opposed the first substrate, a liquid crystal layer between the first substrate and the second substrate, a light-shielding layer including a first light-shield formed along a first direction and a second light-shield formed along a second direction and crossing the first light-shield, and a spacer which maintains a gap between the first substrate and the second substrate, the spacer overlapping a crossing region where the first light-shield and the second light-shield cross each other and including an exposed region outside the light-shielding layer in a planar view.

3. The liquid crystal display of claim 1 , wherein the spacer is overlaid on a center of the crossing region.

4. The liquid crystal display of claim 1 , wherein

the exposed region is partitioned by an edge of the spacer and the first and second light-shields.

5. The liquid crystal display of claim 1 , wherein

the first substrate further comprises a second pixel electrode adjacent to the first pixel electrode along the first direction with the second light-shield therebetween in the planar view, and

the spacer includes a second overlapping region overlapping the second pixel electrode, and

an area of the first overlapping region is the same as that of the second overlapping region.

6. The liquid crystal display of claim 1 , wherein

the first substrate further comprises a second pixel electrode adjacent to the first pixel electrode along the first direction with the second light-shield therebetween in the planar view,

the spacer includes a second overlapping region overlapping the second pixel electrode, and

an area of the first overlapping region is greater than that of the second overlapping region.

7. The liquid crystal display of claim 1 , wherein

the spacer is in contact with the protecting electrode.
