Abstract

A cylindrical optical tomography system includes a light emitting array having a plurality of light emitting elements, a cylindrical sample holding element, and a light sensing array including a plurality of light sensing elements, wherein the light sensing array is configured to sense light emitted from the light emitting array which has passed through the sample holding module.

Claims (28)

1. An optical tomography system, comprising:

an illuminating light emitting array comprising a first plurality of light emitting elements geometrically curved to form a first partially-cylindrical arrangement;

a cylindrical optically-transparent sample holding element; and

a light sensing array comprising a second plurality of light emitting elements geometrically curved to form a second partially-cylindrical arrangement,

wherein the light sensing array is configured to sense light emitted from the light emitting array after the light has passed through the sample holding element.

2. The optical tomography system of claim 1 , wherein individual light emitting elements from the first plurality of light emitting elements in the illuminating light emitting array are sequentially illuminated.

3. The optical tomography system of claim 1 , wherein the illuminating light emitting array is configured, via sequencing of the first plurality of light emitting elements, to operate both as an illuminating light source and as a reflective-imaging light sensor.

4. The optical tomography system of claim 1 , wherein the illuminating light emitting array is configured, via multiplexing of the first plurality of light emitting elements, to operate both as an illuminating light source and as a reflective-imaging light sensor.

5. The optical tomography system of claim 1 , wherein at least one light emitting element of the first plurality of light emitting elements in the illuminating light emitting array is a light emitting diode (LED).

6. The optical tomography system of claim 1 , wherein at least one light emitting element of the first plurality of light emitting elements in the illuminating light emitting array is an organic light emitting diode (OLED).

7. The optical tomography system of claim 1 , wherein at least one light emitting element of the second plurality of light emitting elements in the light sensing array is an organic light emitting diode (OLED).

8. The optical tomography system of claim 1 , wherein the optical tomography system is configured to provide an over-specified system of equations relating light-adsorption voxel values to light measurement values.

9. The optical tomography system of claim 8 , wherein the over-specified system of equations is linearized via logarithm operations to produce a linearized over-specified system of equations.

10. The optical tomography system of claim 9 , wherein the linearized over-specified system of equations is solved for logarithms of approximate light-adsorption voxel values using a generalized inverse operation.

11. An optical tomography system, comprising:

an illuminating light emitting array comprising a first plurality of light emitting elements geometrically curved to form a first cylindrical arrangement;

a cylindrical optically-transparent sample holding element; and

a light sensing array comprising a second plurality of light emitting elements geometrically curved to form a second cylindrical arrangement, wherein the second cylindrical arrangement is integrated into the first cylindrical arrangement,

wherein the light sensing array is configured to sense light emitted from the light emitting array after the light has passed through the sample holding element.

12. The optical tomography system of claim 11 , wherein individual light emitting elements from the first plurality of light emitting elements in the illuminating light emitting array are sequentially illuminated.

13. The optical tomography system of claim 11 , wherein the illuminating light emitting array is configured, via sequencing of the first plurality of light emitting elements, to operate both as an illuminating light source and as a reflective-imaging light sensor.

14. The optical tomography system of claim 11 , wherein the illuminating light emitting array is configured, via multiplexing of the first plurality of light emitting elements, to operate both as an illuminating light source and as a reflective-imaging light sensor.

15. The optical tomography system of claim 11 , wherein at least one light emitting element of the first plurality of light emitting elements in the illuminating light emitting array is a light emitting diode (LED).

16. The optical tomography system of claim 11 , wherein at least one light emitting element of the first plurality of light emitting elements in the illuminating light emitting array is an organic light emitting diode (OLED).

17. The optical tomography system of claim 11 , wherein at least one light emitting element of the second plurality of light emitting elements in the light sensing array is an organic light emitting diode (OLED).

18. The optical tomography system of claim 11 , wherein the system is configured to provide an over-specified system of equations relating light-adsorption voxel values to light measurement values.

19. The optical tomography system of claim 18 , wherein the over-specified system of equations is linearized via logarithm operations to produce a linearized over-specified system of equations.

20. The optical tomography system of claim 19 , wherein the linearized over-specified system of equations is solved for logarithms of approximate light-adsorption voxel values using a generalized inverse operation.
