Abstract

A method, system, and computer readable storage for identifying regions of interest on a casino gaming table. Regions of interest are locations on an image where relevant actions are typically going to occur. For example, locations of betting area region of interest and card area regions of interest are determined so that these areas can be analyzed on a video camera. The analyzed areas can then be used for things such as determining and tracking player betting amounts, determining if the game is being dealt properly (by analyzing the cards dealt to determine if the proper cards are dealt and/or the proper payouts are made).

Claims (40)

1. A method for identifying regions of interest on a casino table, performed by at least one electronic processor, executing computer readable instructions, the method comprising:

generating a template image and template meta-data that defines a first region of interest and a second region of interest on the template image;

capturing a table image of casino table;

identifying objects located at the first region of interest;

generating camera meta-data for the first region of interest based upon the identifying of the objects at the first region of interest;

defining, by the at least one electronic processor, a homography between the template meta-data and the camera meta-data for the first region of interest based on the identifying of the objects at the first region of interest;

generating, by the at least one electronic processor, camera meta-data for the second region of interest based upon the homography; and

analyzing game play at the casino table based upon the camera meta-data for the first region of interest and the meta-data for the second region of interest.

2. The method of claim 1 , further comprising distributing the template image and the template meta-data to casinos.

3. The method of claim 1 , wherein the template meta-data is distributed to a casino server at a casino automatically upon the template meta-data being updated.

4. The method of claim 3 , further comprising distributing the template meta-data from the casino server to a table computer at a casino table.

5. The method of claim 1 , wherein the identifying objects located at the first region of interest comprises:

capturing an image of the casino table with no objects present;

capturing an image of the casino table with objects present at the first region of interest; and

subtracting the image of the casino table with no objects present on it from the image of the casino table with objects present at the first region of interest.

6. The method of claim 5 , further comprising receiving approval from a technician that the identifications of objects at the first region of interest are identified correctly.

7. The method of claim 1 , wherein the capturing of the table image of the casino table is performed with a plurality of cameras.

8. The method of claim 7 , wherein two cameras of the plurality of cameras are located at the casino table.

9. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first region of interest and the second region of interest comprise one or more of a betting area and a card area.

10. The method of claim 1 , wherein the first region of interest and the second region of interest are different colors.

11. An apparatus comprising an electronic processor connected to at least one non-transitory computer readable storage medium having instructions stored thereon which when executed by a processor cause the processor to:

generate a template image and template meta-data that defines a first region of interest and a second region of interest on the template image;

capture a table image of casino table;

identify objects located at the first region of interest;

generate camera meta-data for the first region of interest based upon the identifying of the objects at the first region of interest;

define a homography between the template meta-data and the camera meta-data for the first region of interest based on the identifying of the objects at the first region of interest;

generate camera meta-data for the second region of interest based upon the homography; and

analyze game play at the casino table based upon the camera meta-data for the first region of interest and the meta-data for the second region of interest.

12. The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein the instructions further cause the processor to distribute the template image and the template meta-data to casinos.

13. The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein the template meta-data is distributed to a casino server at a casino automatically upon the template meta-data being updated.

14. The apparatus of claim 13 , wherein the instructions further cause the processor to distribute the template meta-data from the casino server to a table computer at a casino table.

15. The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein to identify objects located at the first region of interest the instructions further cause the processor to:

capturing an image of the casino table with no objects present;

capturing an image of the casino table with objects present at the first region of interest; and

subtracting the image of the casino table with no objects present on it from the image of the casino table with objects present at the first region of interest.

16. The apparatus of claim 15 , wherein the instructions further cause the processor to receive approval from a technician that the identifications of objects at the first region of interest are identified correctly.

17. The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein the capture of the table image of the casino table is performed with a plurality of cameras.

18. The apparatus of claim 17 , wherein two cameras of the plurality of cameras are located at the casino table.

19. The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein the first region of interest and the second region of interest comprise one or more of a betting area and a card area.

20. The apparatus of claim 11 , wherein the first region of interest and the second region of interest are different colors.
